Yes. Gliding, Flying, and the Drop Dash can't be done without turning into Super Sonic.

Just like in 3&K though, if Sonic (and only Sonic) has a shield of any kind, that will stop him from transforming.

this is the only thing i hate about the game. they have 4 face buttons and 4 shoulder buttons, why on earth didn't they just use separate buttons super form and the characters ability.

Even with only one button you could still be able to use the super peel in combination with the drop dash or insta shield with just one button so it's still silly you can't.
I don't even mind them being exclusive to no save mode either.

That's true although you'd be force to choose between the Drop Dash and the Insta-Shield

Mapping one of Drop Dash/Insta-Shield to Jump + press other face button would make that possible(ideally you would choose which button combination you want for which)

You have to jump into the ring above it. Then if you collect all the Blue Spheres you can go Super.

They don't need to copy it 1:1, they realized that to a degree but they could go farther. They also should have had stage transitions all throughout.
