Have you ever had your shit "hacked" or fucked with online before Sup Forums?
The worst I've ever experienced is getting ddossed

I must have done something stupid because a russian used my paypal once. I am not dumb enough to fall for obvious scams and several scanners found no positives on both my machines. I got the cash back and changed all relevant passwords, but to this day I don't know how they got it
You can be as safe as you want but that won't stop idiot web designers from storing your passwords in weakly encrypted databases which get broken into all the time either via inside jobs or external intrusion.
Yup. When I was young my friend got his steam account hacked. I messaged him unknowingly and the guy using his account sent me a link telling me to check out this account he wasn't using. After signing into the account through steam, my steam account was "frozen" or "disabled" or something. Had to call steam and get them to let me access it again. After he got his account back he kept the steam bio the guy had. He said it was funny to him
had my WoW account hacked by someone in china a couple years ago. No clue how they got in or even why they would want to.
Stopped playing wow for a year once.
When I tried to play again, my password had been changed.
When I recovered my account and logged in, whoever stole the account had maxed out my professions and farmed a ton of gold.
Pretty good experience.
Fuck. I had 5
never been hacked ever
only been ddosed once
>Good news - no pwnage found!
Yeah, if people understood that hackers use that kinds of methods they would start using multiple email accounts for different things and not repeat passwords ever.
You really need to use throwaway email accs on sites that dont have the money to have good security.
Someone stole my Minecraft account but I got it back. I also had their email so I send them gay shit when I feel so inclined
Some russian kid bought my Origin account, I use a password manager and unique strong passwords everywhere now
>sites that dont have the money to have good security.
It's not like Adobe or Sony are tiny companies.
They could have all the money in the world, that won't stop them from cutting corners or being generally incompetent.
The punishment for failing to secure password data should be far more severe than it currently is.
>good news! No pwnge found
>Get hacked by the Chinese in WoW
>Get account back
>Shitload of free farming and gold
No never. I guess im just not a fucking idiot
You bought a key on G2A with your paypal, didn't you?
same here. fucking retards in this thread.
my roblox account got stolen but i got it back
>randomly typing your email or username in to websites and submitting the data to them when its not absolutely necessary
HURRRRR DURRRRRR HURRRRR
>Your steam account has been accessed from a new location the login included your correct username and password
Good thing I use unique passwords. The only breach that really got me worried was the Teamviewer one, I haven't reinstalled it since
I had some faggot get into my system and open/close my CD drive a while back. He'd randomly send me messages in notepad, too.
Nothing malicious, just some harmless fun.
the website is fucking bullshit, stop typing your information in to sites like this darwin
>changed email password to some password i used 10 years ago on a web hosting site
>said web hosting site convieniently gets hacked the same week
>changes my email password and recovery questions
>lucky for me the email was made on aolunder a supervisor account because we used to pay for it so i was able to change it along with the recovery questions through my mothers account
>this was also before AOL had 2 form authentication
>chinese hackers change all my passwords
>they try to get into my paypal that was never confirmed and has no money
>tried getting into my bank account
>stole armor off my runescape account and tried changing the pass because i have 160m
>changed my wallmart.com password even though i never used it
>signed me up to a whole bunch of websites
>its been 2 years and they are now sending me fake appleID messages saying my account has been locked and i need to reset it. Ive never used an apple product.
Fuck the chinese. They just want my runescape money.
What they gonna do, mail me? Kek.
Got a bitcoin miner from some bullshit I don't remember. It'd spike GPU usage the moment I stopped moving the mouse and when I did the drivers crashed, and trying to play games was totally pointless
>random site
>being this retarded
Some dude from Poland broke into my spam box email. I only found out because the only email in that accounts book is that accounts email so he spammed the account from the account. If he had left it alone he might have been able to find out how to reduce his debt or grow his penis by inches overnight.
unless you are using it to sign up theres no reason for you type your email in anywhere.
The one time I ever got runescape membership my account got hacked. I got some of that elite black armor that looks pretty cool but isn't expensive and then a couple days later my password wasn't working. When I reset it all my valuables were gone, which thankfully wasn't much at all
You sure about this? I tried my two trash emails and it seemed pretty consistent with websites I made accounts on
the more places you enter your email, the more places have it, the higher your chances of getting breached are. Stop being fucking retarded
I still don't know how it happened (I'm fairly tech/password conscious) But I had some fucker from Kazakhstan sign into my steam a couple times. I can only assume he downloaded a ton of games and then set the account to offline mode, I don't leave my card info or anything on my account so I don't think he was after that
He didn't touch my account's trade/items either. Still have no idea wtf he was doing.
one time someone was selling north face jackets on my ebay account
idk how that happened
contacted ebay and changed my passwords, had no issues
also one time someone used my debit card to buy itunes gift cards digitally and other digital shit
drained my account but my bank reimbursed me
didnt really inconvenience me too bad other than having to wait for a new card and didnt lose money
I once had Chinese gold farmers access my long-dormant WoW account, add a month of game time, and immediately get caught by Blizzard. I basically just got a free month of WoW out of nowhere. I don't think I used it.
I think I always avoided G2A, but I'm not absolutely sure.
I know one of my old passwords is on there, from the mangatraders unsalted hash database (fucking stupid)
Well, end of the story was they bought something off ebay for like 10 bux, I send out emails to paypal and the seller a couple minutes later, got the money back, and the seller never sent the wares to whoever it was. I still have the email with the name and address.
Apart from some time, I didn't lose anything, it was just an annoying experience
source: your ass
It's a collection of publicly available (to some degree) breaches and just lets you search them safely.
If you want to verify what it says you can go find the same breaches and search the databases yourself.
At most,
woooow duuude didn't know that.
that site is safe but don't tell to anyone, it's a secret.
...
meh
lots of sites are safe, but the less you type it in, the safer you are.
This is the antivirus/antihacker software known as "common sense". Feel free to tell everyone you want. Because everyone has common sense, right?
What the fuck are they going to do with your email?
The site that people are saying check on already has it, and relaying to you that it does. Oh no!!!
Sup Forums and personal security knowledge do not coexist. Just a bunch of tinfoilers rolling around screaming.
i had a wow break mid tbc or something, and got an email from "blizzard" who wanted me to log in to the website.. and i fell for it, i was like 16 and retarded.
since i had no sub though, nothing happened. i just changed my password back again.
Not memeing or anything, but I had a gold seller YEARS ago take over my dormant account, but I decided to play again, upon my discovery I immediately alerted Bliz GMs about all the shit in my account, they thanked me, and then let me keep it.
I had literally whatever the maximum was back then on that account, IIRC it was 1,000,000? This was Cata era I believe
A girl once sexted me for months so she could get a leadership role in my EVE Online corp and empty the hangars then leave wordlessly
That's about it. Somehow this is metaphorical for marriage.
I lost a bunch of PP in USFIV, due to comms errors that people induce.
Lost a bunch of items in RO before, had a bunch of OS's I had to reinstall for no reason. Some of the time it's just malware other times there is nothing wrong whatsoever but it decided to stop working.
Been introduced, exhibited to, and humiliated by botnet.
And a bunch of console nonsense like Xbox Live and PSN.
>>What the fuck are they going to do with your email?
The more places that have it. The more places there are where it can potentially be retrieved illegally. All hackers need is the email to get started.
guess common sense isnt so common
Maybe he just wanted to play video games, it ain't easy being kazakhstani
Someone from china tried to log into my gmail once, but they never got in
Most women I've encountered do not
Classic femme fatale, I bet she was hired by a rival corp
of course i don't type my mail everywhere, that's why you use a trash mail for shit.
Good luck following that rabbit hole.
If you have gmail you can double entropy with their + shit.
Base: [email protected]
Your DeviantArt account: [email protected]
DA will accept it, and gmail will redirect it to [email protected]. So people can't even reverse lookup your account without know the garbage after the +.
I do this on all my important accounts for that exact reason to avoid reverse lookup or something like "this email is already in use".
There was this really weird period in my life where I guess someone was just really obsessed with getting into my steam, but I use a password safe and let it generate my passwords, so even if they somehow got in, they didn't really do anything because ALL of my accounts had different passwords, and I never save my credit card credentials into anything.
Yeah, got hacked in both gw 1 and gw 2, some cunt just bruteforced my password once. The other one was far more sinister because I had a good password. Returned both accounts too. One of my old emails got bruteforced as well, but anything of value has been severed from it a long time ago.
it was capped at 999k so yeah. nice
Your fault for giving a woman anything
That's honestly what I figured, I didn't actually alert steam, just changed my pass. Maybe he got to download a couple games and play them.
>get free shit
>report it
How beta do you have to be?
>Just learned about this right now
...How long as gmail had this? I don't even recall seeing a notice of this in all my time using it since the closed beta.
You are fucking retarded, this site is run by Troy Hunt, who might not be the most known security guy, but at least it does exactly what it claims to - searches public email/password database dumps of which there were many recently.
And a special fuck you to the "muh common sense" guy - if your common sense is telling you that something bad would happen just because you have submitted your email alone, that's not common sense that's retardation.
You can easily mitigate that by generating unique passwords for each site you use.
never been hacked before
my password is my date of birth
you're all fucking idiots
>my password is my date of birth
>you're all fucking idiots
does not compute
Some guy probably has had a keylogger on his pc past 5 years and he just happily goes on with his business.
Ignorance is bliss.
Someone hacked into my Ubisoft and Origins account and played a few matches of Siege and BF1. Email was never touched, these clients should really have a check for new computers that log in.
Only once in my memory. Someone with a Russian IP tried to get into my steam account. 2 step authentication kept them out. Nice try Ivan, not that my account has any money or cards on it anyway.
I recently switched to a password vault myself (KeePass).
Was a little rough at first but now it's no inconvenience to me, especially after learning of its autotype feature.
This is called tagging and has been a part of email standard for fucking ages, not just gmail.
>buy unique domain
>make every login its own email address
>you're secure for life
someone would have to specifically target you and know your exact random made up domain
>Russans get my old as dirt Yahoo account ( chances are from yahoo being hacked )
>They then try to breach into my gmail account.
>They tried for like 3 days before giving up
I'll admit the mail gmail kept giving me was spooky, but I ended up recovering the Yahoo ( they never delinked it from allowing gmail to get the recovery message ) and after they tried for a few days to get that again I never saw anything of the like since. Was last year or so.
I've been DDOS'd twice by a angry 12 year old jetshitter and their gang of Free Roam Deathmatchers and some faggot in GTAO because I was counter-jetshitting a jetshitter, basically because I was in a jet.
I should just be like them and DDOS anybody I don't like online because I reported this federal law breaking shit and nobody gives a fuck.
Just put your faith in Google
Unless you're also spooked of the government trying to hijack your steam games.
Someone russian got into my Origin account. Seemed to use it for a few days, only played battlefield 4.
I just phoned EA up and got the account back, was nice of him to level up for me. Turned on 2 step authentication etc after.
>login to battle.net account
>"there have been 15 unsuccessful login attempts since your last login"
>grin
They both added two step verification recently
Nuke Russia.
Do you use that domain as receive only? Because being blocked by every major providers is a huge pain in the ass.
>have battle.net account hacked
>Call blizzard
>They Mail me a freebie authentication key and get me set back up
someone actually stole my minecraft account and changed the password, didnt give a shit since i hadnt played minecraft for a few yrs, still went through support and gave the original purchase recipt and got it back so eh
Some Russian took one of my twitter accounts and used it for like half a year as a bot. Still don't know why.
Somehow someone got my battle.net many years ago. Was easy enough to recover.
A year or so ago I was constantly plagued by phishing attempts against my Steam account. Fucking Russians.
My wow account was stolen once. Took my gold from main and 1 alt and cleared one tab from the bank. Blizz got everything back and I added authenticator. Most baffling thing was that the tief didn't check the bags in my bank that were filled with some really valuable stuff back then, like unbounded Tabard of the lightbringer and gorillion flasks and herbs.
Because I knew I'd lose said free shit and my entire fucking account if I didn't retard
Okay, so people who got their MMO accounts "hacked" or whatever like how exactly did that happen? Did you have your date of birth as a password, or "What's your favorite animal" - "Dog" as a security question or what? Genuinely curious how does that happen to people.
someone once hijacked my origin account somehow years ago. Got it back with no problem, but now my name on there is some queer lithuanian jibberish and I can't change it because they set the perosnal questions for it in runes.
My pw was pretty obscure, didn't use any shady add-ons and all that stuff. No idea how it happened.
I bought gold in RS when I was little, had my magic armor set stolen a month later. I don't know if it was related though, I wasn't stupid enough to share account details anywhere.
My steam account after ignored it until tf2 was released. Contacted steam support, changed password, got called a fag by one the guys hundreds of erps. Spent 10 minutes deleting people from the friends list.
kazakhstan seem like a weird ass place. I've been fapping to their women on camsites and they're all super nice about it
I use one very long password for everything and add an identifier to the end (ex. 'forechanne' if I were making a Sup Forums Gold account)
It has never failed me, it's of a length that isn't bruteforceable
In my case (Vindictus, lost all my money, endgame gear, and any gear that was popular for fashion and thus also worth lots of money), it was because Nexon's website had trash encryption and a lot of their accounts got compromised. But then they never e-mailed me about it, so I didn't know until after the damage was done and I happened to login one day months later.
why is it stereotypical for russians to do this?
what's the endgame of a ruski?
had my steam hacked 8 years ago. within 24h i had it back, no vac-bans, no nothing, the only thing the hacker did was play 1h of cs 1.6
I do this too. It's fun when I have to remember the identifier for a website I haven't used in years, but the system usually works out in the end.
Normally what a hacker does is they grab a database full of encrypted passwords, buy a shitton of graphics cards, and tell the GPUs to work with the CPU to try brute force or dictionary attacks. If they succeed, they usually have your username, password, and if they're lucky, your email address. Then, they try the email address/password combination into something else, because 90% of users will use the same password for everything.
I don't know why they don't jump straight to your email address though. Maybe because most emails alert your phone if you log in with a strange IP/OS, so they stick to lowkey things like your MMO account.
seems like you could easily get fucked with a breach, if someone found adzadwxc1234chan or adzadwxc123reddit they'd probably try it with other websites
my facebook got hacked by some thai dude who turned it into his profile but I only use fb to look at shitty meme pages so didnt really care
it's like bike stealing, low reward but extremely low risk
