Music, story, strong materia system, and the little peoples fat arms were adorable in the world. But mainly story. Best themes of any FF. Best characters. Best swords. Best chocobos. Best everything. I had this game on preorder in 1997. Cried when Aries died.

Best characters is debatable but top 3 easily.

meh, i liked 4,5,6 more

Being the first cd/3d entry. Bout it.

no you didn't

I don't know. It had a really cool and original setting

7 really wasn't that good.

It's definitely a game that sold more on visual fidelity rather than content.

Also 4,5, and 6 were better games, and so was 9.

nothing. it was easy as piss i legitimately fucked my own equipment and materia up in the final dungeon to artifically increase the difficulty
it didn't work. such a disappointment

Something something normalfags something something if V isn't your favorite you're worse than hitler something something SJWs.

>7 was my first final fantasy
4,5,6,9 and 10 had stronger characters.
4, 8, 9 and 10 had a better ost
10 had a better progression system
4,5,6,9, and 10 had a better story
babys first final fantasy threads need to stop.

You can always tell the contrarians.

the battles looked like controllable anime fight scenes.
it was fuckin super cinematic and awesome for its day

Those 2d worlds don't have the same life as 7. Also wasn't it the first FF not soley carried by Nintendo? Definitely the first FF released on Sonys seminal, legendary Playstation. Did I mention it had the best cutscenes? For the time it was groundbreaking stuff. Also best structured storytelling, not just the themes but the way in which the story is told, with a clear beginning, middle and end. All FF characters after 10 look inherintly emo in their character design. FFVII is the only one that really rocked. Top 3 characters in FF? easy. Cloud, Sepiroth and Cid. Cid was never as cool as he was in FFVII. That theme. Just face it. FFVII is unique and totally above and beyond all FFVII. It can never be remade or imitated and can only truly be appreciated back in 1997 when it was just released and lived up to all the magnificent hype and more. FFVII is not part of the FF series. it is above it. Beyond it.

>10 had a better progression system
Lol

When you type in Cid theme in youtube his theme from 1997's truly seminal, groundbreaking, legendary in all ways FFVII come up, not his other shit themes from games noone cares about.

Nothing really excels about this game IMO. I can't think of any aspect in which it was the best Final Fantasy. But at the same time, it doesn't really fail at anything either.

FF7 was good, but not exceptional. I attribute its popularity to marketing more than anything.

I loved FFV, but it had some of the worst character development of any of the games. Aside from Galuf and debatably Faris, the other characters had no depth of growth; certainly not to the point much of VII's cast did.

Kids who didn't have the chance to own Ocarina of Time think FF7 is the greatest game of all time, that's a fact. And I feel sorry for them.

>3d polygon graphics that looked great at the time, and still hold up today (in before "b-but muh realism!", it has a unique style like an old painting)
>fun storyline that's told without 45 minute cutscenes
>memorable characters
>great soundtrack

If you don't agree that Final Fantasy 7 is the best of all Final Fantasy you basically have no soul. Only edgelords claim to like other Final Fantasies better because they are trying to generate debate. Meanwhile everyone else knows that it is the Greatest Final Fantasy, probably the greatest video game that has ever, or will ever, be made.

>still hold up today
fucking lmao
The overworld models are absolute garbage and the backgrounds are extremely hit or miss.

>>fun storyline that's told without 45 minute cutscenes
Well, this one isn't true.

Are you all fucking serious? This game is great.

Stupid kids always have to make sure their opinion is unique.

I know you're falsflagging but we all know IX is the true GOAT.

How hard is it to make this kind of game?

Developers actually being passionate about the project. Seriously, look it up, they all loved what they were doing and wanted to make the best game possible.

>10 had better ANYTHING

haha wow guys look at me I like the less popular games more lol the good one wasn't even that good XD am I cool yet am I cool yet am I cool yet

>Baby's first jrpg

Good thing we have grand daddy elitest JRPG master here to guide us on what video games to play!

Tell us what hardcore JRPG you play for hardcore gamers such as yourself?

>The overworld models are absolute garbage and the backgrounds are extremely hit or miss.
Based on that logic a black and white movie doesn't hold up. Based on that logic the original costumes in the old Planet of the Ape movies don't hold up.
FFVII has a sort of retro-techno look. It looks fine.

Why are VII fans so insecure? This is just sad.

Ah see I skipped that one because VIII was such a disappointment. But you can't seriously be claiming this motley crew to be better then VII? With Cloud and Tifa clones right there? Front centre? Please! By the way I am not falseflagging and I would fight you in public if you tried to claim that FFIX was superior to FFVII within earshot of me.

What is there to be insecure about?

7 is by far the most popular FF and maybe the most popular jrpg ever made

I'm not a VII fan. I just know a stupid elitest when I see one.

zelda ocarina of time

9 is literally furry autism, the world setting

IX is the worst FF I've played. Except maybe XV. Kind of a toss up.

>tfw the golden age of JRPGs is over
>all we have now is kusoge

>Based on that logic a black and white movie doesn't hold up.
It's precisely the opposite. It's like saying a movie in colour must look better than a black an white movie. It's like saying CG always looks better than a practical effect.
Shit CG is shit CG. Shit polygons are shit polygons. FF7 was made before Square figured how to make 3D look good, which is the case on just about all of the other JRPGs they made for PS1.

>Golden age is ove-

I thought the 3D of FF8 looked great (except for the character models).

Xenoblade X was butts

>FFXV
almost had me believe you were serious for a moment

>cried
Do people really do this? What kind of faggot do you have to be to start crying over a fucking game lmao?

100% wrong. The 3d looks like blocky nonsense, but it ends up being a very unique style. The problem with you underages is that everything has to look realistic. If The Simpsons were new today you would be mad that they have yellow skin.

>yfw this theme kicked in
youtube.com/watch?v=3rV40ypje7o

To be fair, XCX and P5 were both great, albeit for completely different reasons.

FFXV is absolute garbage, though. Dunno about Tales.

6 is debatably better, I prefer 7 cuz muh nostalgia and because some of the locations give me a comfy warmth

XCX is the best one out of those four

P5 isn't far behind though

I agree. Maybe I didn't phrase it accurately - everything after FF7 looked good.

Because it's not like FF9 or Chrono Cross had a unique graphical style or anything.

Persona = weeb shit the lives of which I've never thought possible + 3 hour cutscenes
FFXV = some of the most meandering shit I've ever played
Xenoblade Chronicles = bretty good

I legit teared up in Nier's NG+, regarding Roc. First and only time it's happened.

I got a real soft spot for dogs.

>comfy
The most meaningless buzzword.

I enjoyed 6 and 10 more but yeah it's pretty amazing what it was able to do especially at the time and being the first 3d game, just like OoT.

>I agree. Maybe I didn't phrase it accurately - everything after FF7 looked good.
Ah. Sorry. Thought you meant "It was the case," meaning that all other PS1 FF's looked like shit.

Best OST by far

Real men with real heart and real soul. People who know that FFVII is best FF. Also probably the greatest videogame that has ever, or will ever, be made.

>Because it's not like FF9 or Chrono Cross had a unique graphical style or anything.
Chrono Cross looked realistic (properly proportioned humans). FF9 gets all the furry love.

Despite looking generic, Sephiroth is probably the most intimidating FF bad guy

Even when he shows up in other games you know you're in for a bad time

Big Tifa tits.

Birth of a God is better, One Winged Angel is reddit tier desu.
>Classic battle bass line at :26
>Sephiroth's motif at 1:24
This is how you make a battle song.

And 10 was your baby's first final fantasy. How about you go to the shop to get some good taste?

Sephiroth was a prissy edgelord faggot, I blame him for FFX revolving around this gigantic twat.

Sephiroth is the trope maker of the angsty swordsman user.

Seinfeld isn't funny and all that

Thankyou for this post, user. Sephiroth is not just the best, most compelling antagonist in all of Final Fantasy, he might be the most compelling figure in all of human literature.

genderbent Ultimecia

What about Cid?

The presentation is probably its single greatest strength.
The graphics blew away everything else at the time but the soundtrack is what made the game stick in everyone's memories so many years later.
The backgrounds were almost as memorable as the music too.

I like that they never gave you control of him, unlike Seipher and Seymore.

It was a cool choice, in hindsight.

>angsty
Up until he locked himself up in the mansion he was actually a chill guy with a cocky attitude

Best role model.

In all of literature though?

>It's definitely a game that sold more on visual fidelity rather than content.
So, like all FF?

It had three, (3) fucking Bahamuts, and all three of them actually looked cool.

Ever wonder how Cloud was able to sneak attack Sephiroth, who by every right should have made him a stain on the wall?

he had a Pre-Emptive materia equipped

The graphics are hit or miss. I already mentioned that the models look like garbage, but many of the backgrounds are just too grimy and dingy (e.g. Midgar) that they can't express much detail. They hold up especially badly on a modern display due to the low resolution. On the other hand, many of the backgrounds are still excellent, like the ones in the City of the Ancients.
Personally I prefer FF6 or Chrono Trigger's soundtrack.

...

If we consider that Final Fantasy VII is the pinnacle of all human literature, which we do, then yes.

and the many many carbon copies, this fucking idiot included.

Having fuckin STELLAR music
>youtube.com/watch?v=0dnl6NoEVdo

>VII is now eternally ruined due to the extended universe

...

The soundtrack is nowhere near the quality of IV-VI

KEK

V has probably the weakest OST in the series unless you count X-2, aside from Battle on the Big Bridge there's nothing noteworthy from it.

You know who is truly to blame for Final Fantasy VII extended universe. It not Tetsuya Nomura not understanding the characters (Especially Cloud and Aerith) but he didn't especially help.

It was of course, the fans.

FFVII was Uematsu trying to make music "more like a movie soundtrack" which means the music is less compelling, less thematic, and stands up worse outside of the game.
I mainly meant IV and VI but V has a good soundtrack. The final battle, the overworld themes, etc.

nah, i liked 4,5,6 more

I don't know man. They all look amazing to me, excepting the generic grassy fields.

You can pick just about any random screen on this page and it will look fantastic.

glitterberri.com/content/ff_series/ffvii/prerenders/

Why do people always blame Nomura for Nojima's writing?

As stated FFVII is not part of the Final Fantasy series. It cannot be remade, imitated, emulated, fanfict, retconned, extended, or adapted in any way. It stands alone. Untarnished. Unbesmirched. Brilliant and outstanding in every way. In that way it is the only thing that is immune from rule 34. As any attempt to do such a thing would not be FFVII. The only naughtiness allowed is at the Beehive.

Literally everything.

The comfy is over.

FMV in a generation that had not yet experienced it.

FF7 innovated nothing else.

>caring about the music past the fight theme
>caring about the faggy story
