I think it's obvious quite a bit of love went into it. It has a nice story and doesn't skimp on interesting unlockables. If you've played all the other X games and have a need for more it's a neat addition.

The general mechanics are good. Each of the characters are a lot of fun to play, and the tag mechanic adds a lot to the formula. The bosses are mostly fun, too.

The main issue with the game is that the level design is terrible. Almost every stage is incredibly gimmicky, and there just isn't enough of the old jumpan' n' shootan' to take advantage of the mechanics. There are two ride chaser levels, for fuck sake. Then when you get to the Sigma stages, the levels are an absolute nightmare of instant-death spikes like it's I Wanna Be the Fucking Guy.

It's worth playing if you're a fan of the franchise, and better overall than 6 and 7 by a big margin, but it's not something you need to go out of your way to play.

I bought the PS2 collection and beat X1 and X2. Why does X3 feel so hard in comparison? I never had too much trouble with Mavericks in the previous game even when I only had the buster but now I'm constantly getting my ass handed to me.

X6 is better than X8

That's certainly an opinion you have there.

I really, really liked it. It needed more levels that were more like traditional Megaman X levels but the amount of content the game has makes it very enjoyable to replay and go through and it's overall a good experience that's worth trying at least omce.

Glad I wasn't the only one that liked it better than X4.

It made me like Axl. He plays more like a Gunstar Heroes character than the shitty version of X he was in the previous games, because he can shoot in 8 directions and his boss weapons are all infinite-ammo variations like a spread gun and a laser. Between this and ZX Advent, Capcom managed to really turn my opinion around on him.

This, it's actually better than even X5.
People who can't git gud are going to say X6 is shit so there's that.

It completly misses the spot on controls from the earlier games, also Zero's thin hair just looks sad. It also had spikes everywhere, like they forgot how to make stages challenging, so they just put spikes everywhere. The music is also forgettable. Oh, and those atrocious levels where you just fly around in a city or drive on snow, both on shit vehicles with horrible controls. Nobody ever wanted this. I wish they just did with the X series what they did to the original one, back to the roots with original graphics and gameplay. X8 isn't a shit game like X7, but has nothing remarkable about it, it's a completely mediocre game without character.

No. X3 is awful and if it wasn't for X7 being a trainwreck it'd easily be the worst game in the series. X2's only flaw is that it's too easy.

Has good music though. The voice acting is fucking terrible. Never liked X or Zero's voice. Can't see why people say it's good.

It's not bait. X3 has the second worst levels and bosses in the series, the worst upgrades bar none, and the worst soundtrack. Awful game.

It's a decent game but it was far too little too late by that point in the series. That's why no one talks about it. Hardly anyone played it.

Curiously, they released a Gamecube controller that includes X8 art on it but there wasn't a GC port at all, which makes me think that at some point there was going to be one but for whatever reason Capcom decided not to.
