The majority of fans believe this was the last hurrah for the FF series before it went to hell. Do you think is succeeded and was a proper sendoff?

I do

I still liked x-2, but yeah, it has been bland since.

>tfw getting the urge to playthrough again

It's a good game (as is XII btw) but there's still an aura of decline surrounding both. By the PS2 era the franschise had already began it's downfall, IX was it's peak.

>yfw the blitzers theme is just a sped up tidus theme

Incorrect FFXII was the last hurrah for the FF series before it went to hell.

It was hot garbage. There's a reason FFX was at the top of Japanese charts for many years and XII wasn't.

Legendary guardian? I was just a boy. A boy about your age, actually. I wanted to change the world, too. But I changed nothing. That is my story.

>implying we all live in niponland

I don't give two fucks what the japs think.

I think I'm gonna play this game. I haven't played it in over 10 years...

Same. I finally bought the HD collection recently for $20, brand new. I still have the strategy guide in my closet.

its been 10 years....

Somebody in highschool lent me FFX in 2006. I think I played until you reach an area where there's lightning everywhere. I thought the story was interesting and could have gotten the game myself, but I never got into the fight system or that water sport thing. Maybe I should get it and play it once and for all before my good old ps2 stops working.

I bought the Zanerkend Abes necklace last year at a swap meet for shits and giggles.

FFX will always be my favorite single player game.

Just the thought of grinding and bring a completionist makes me annoyed.

Do it!

>tfw get close to the end
>hate that feeling of finishing the game
>decide to beat it anyway
>that emptiness after
FFX was so comfy to grind every morning before work with a nice cup of coffee

tidus's buttons look like d-pads

Nah, don't get me wrong it was good but so were 11 and 12

Ya man. Lent it to an ex weeabo psycho yaoi loving, dike hating tranny marrying girlfriend.

Never saw it again after it.

>Tfw going to an anime convention next month that will be having a live concert of FF music
>One of the songs is To Zanarkand
I'm hyped as fuck.

>that part where battle music doesnt play
>just keeping playing that music

11 was an mmorpg and 12 was boring. it didn't even have uematsu.

Holy shit

IX was the last hurrah. X, while still an enjoyable game, threw away a lot of classic FF elements and has more in common with what came after it than what came before.

So?

>The majority of fans believe this was the last hurrah for the FF series before it went to hell.
Most of these have not played an FF game before.
10 was already far on the downward slope that led to 13.

X was what killed final fantasy, IX was the proper sendoff.

>threw away a lot of classic FF elements

name some. it had turn based combat.

All right. To be honest, I also want to finish a FF game too. I tried to get into the series by emulating NES FF1 but got stuck after I got into the ship and gave up because it wasn't that entertaining.

13 had no support from sakaguchi, and uematsu was gone by that point.

>be NA
>get HD remaster
>mfw first time finding a dark aeon and getting raped

what are the point of them? like the fucking magus sisters are retarded

Well that's your problem. I NES is garbage, if you're worried about playing others and missing story or whatever, none of the games are connected (except X and VII, X being a prequel set millions of years before VII), I'd personally recommend FFIV, VII, or XV as a beginner's game.

But user, near the very end is when the game opens up and all of the optional stuff becomes available.

>has more in common with what came after it than what came before.

Thats because literally everyone ripped off FFX because it was so good.

You're supposed grind using the monster arena tricks and have three characters with maxed sphere grids and maxed certain stats.

Also you can fight the magus sisters one-on-one.

I've never finished a FF game, but I was close to finishing 10 years ago. I grinded and grinded then as time went on I moved on to other games.

i mean the the very very end when the journey ends

This. FF only went to shit after XIII. Lightning waifu bullshit killed the series.

Yep, that's when all of the optional stuff is unlocked. Right before you enter Sin.

I thought it was after you enter sin but before you fight you know who.

>Play FFI to FFV
>All shit, the only thing of worth I'm getting out of it is that one of the final bosses was a huge ass Tree and that made me chuckle
>Apparently after FFX the series is even crappier
How? I don't think you can get more boring and bland than those games.

Goddamn that Toriyama. Goddamn him to hell.

I started with FFX. I'll probably go back to pre-X ones but right now the plan is to blow through X, XII, XIII and XV.

I think I missed the train a little but the story still holds up.

>grinding at the highroad

X is better than all those games, inb4 FFV hipsters. You stopped before one of the best ones by the way

>chocobo racing
>lightning dodging

For me, FF10 was a pioneer of unnecessary cinematic bullshit on 6th generation consoles. I can't enjoy as much coming back to it year after my childhood.

You played all the meh ones. VI to X are the golden age of FF.

>except X and VII, X being a prequel set millions of years before VII
What is even the point of shit like this? These "sequels" never truly connect and there's never been a case where a sequel came out that filled the gap between the two.

I like 4,5,6, 9 and 12, fuck all of you and your fucking golden ages shit, play what you enjoy and enjoy what you play. stop trying yo dictate your taste to everyone else "7 to 10 is golden age" fucking nostalgiafags.

>proper sendoff
Too soon

>likes games that were made before 2000
>"fucking nostalgiafags"

I didn't like VI or VIII, but I loved FFX and FFXII. Dont get this whole Golden age meme at all.

Dude you are going to the wrong direction. Everyone agrees that 6, 7, 8 and 9 were the pinnacle of the series.
12, 13 and 15 are boring as fuck.
Don't destroy your interest to the series by playing shit games.

this

go back and play 7 through 9 first, then 1 through 6 if you're still interested. once you've burned yourself out, you can play all the other garbage for shits and giggles.

Final Fantasy was always trash.

>Got suckered into buying the PS3 version because I didn't expect it to come out on PS4
>Now I have to buy the PC version to enjoy my ten trillionth FFX playthrough

Did people ever figure out how to mod in the original models?

>HD remaster
>can turn off battles and speed up the game
i can never go back after

youtube.com/watch?v=dWE0nlhpdq8

better than one winged angel imo

I thought it was a great game the first time I played it through.

Any attempt a subsequent run though just shows the flaws, primarily how linear the game is and how repetitive certain aspects are like the RPS-style combat system.

Personally I thought XII was a superior game, it tried something unique and even having played through twice already (once to 100% completion) I still find myself enjoying TZA and can see myself doing a second playthrough on that as well when I'm finished my first one.

my nigga

12 was lacking alot of the magic of the old games and the characters were really bad.

Say what you want about tidus but at least you sympathized with him and were invested in his finding the truth about zanarkand. Plus fish out of water characters are amazing for fantasy games where you the player has none of the info the devs have had in their brains for years.

Vaan was also just so gay. 12's UI is fucking ugly too

Apples to oranges ones nearly an electronic song and the other is a orchestal piece. Both are top 10 ff songs of all time

lol

one is a lot more upbeat than the other, but at the same time is also pretty badass, especially when that chorus hits.

I got the remaster since i never played this when i was younger, barely played it.

How much am i missing out on? Literally about 2 hours in and combat seems v basic

>wait for tutorial to end
>game ends

it is basic, like every game before it, but it's fun. the story alone is worth it.

The combat is pretty basic.

Rock paper scissor + haste. Game randomly spikes with some bosses like the red carpet and Zanarkands bosses but its pretty simple. Story is kinda the centerpiece in most rpgs

It really was, but it couldn't have been a distinct finale without FFIX epitomizing the themes of Final Fantasy before it on the PSX.

i never dodged all the lightning bolts in a row or caught all the monsters
i think i did everything else though..
did i miss anything?

>summon ifrit
>that roar and the screen shakes

chills

If the majority think this they are wrong. XII may not be as good as X, but it's definitely not a major drop off from eight and nine.

the game is nearly perfect and after that the rest have been much worse

It was me. FF12 was bland garbage in comparison. There's just too much that is fundamentally wrong with it for it to be enjoyable on a gameplay level.

>no support from sakaguchi
>no music by uematsu
>all the characters were bland with british accents
>boring story

and to top it off, the battle system was confusing and not fun.

it's been a while since i've played but i think you can get an ultimate weapon by dodging all the bolts.

Well, there's all the Celestial Weapons to track down. You have to find the unpowered weapon, find the sigil, and then get the crest through a minigame (bolt dodging, blitzball, butterfly catching etc). One for each character. Then there's three secret summons. I'm sure you came across Yojimbo but Anima and Magus Sisters are a bit harder to track down. Did you complete Omega Ruins?

That's the easy stuff. The rest is locked behind a ridiculous amount of grinding - completing the Arena creations, beating the Dark Aeons, and finally beating Penance. Not only will you need perfect equipment, you'll need to max the sphere grid. Not *complete* it, but literally use clear spheres to wipe out any sphere with a stat lower than +4, and then recreating them, until you have all stats (except accuracy I believe) maxed out. Have fun.

I don't live in jap and i agree

>people actually enjoy ff12
>gameplay is based around autoattacking, literally so mundane they built in the gambit system as to provide depth
>story doesnt know whether or not it wants to focus around political drama or standard ff fantasy tropes and ultimately both elements are shallow at best
>just flat out poor last minute decisions like including abs and ass
>license boards are just fundamentally broken and a terrible means of progression, as evidenced by both the original (where everyone could be a red mage and you had to limit your own progression as a means to keep anything challenging) and the remake (where the IZJS makes it so you can just pick a class early game that falls off fucking hard by the end, or just pick a completely useless one)
>music just isnt memorable what so ever
>game is set in Ivalice, the best world squeenix has ever come up with, but the entire party is humans with 1 bunny girl

The only thing this game has going for it is the fact that it is set in Ivalice, which isn't even on its own merit as Tactics introduced it. That and Balthier is a pretty cool dude.

yeah im aware of the celestrial weapons thats why i was trying to dodge the lightning.

also i played before penance was a thing...

what was the result of catching all the arena monsters?

You fight a bunch of mini-superbosses (largely HP sponges and gimmick fights) and then Nemesis is your final superboss. 10m HP.

>He hasn't played the Zodiac Age

Opinion immediately dismissed.

it's as cinematic as any other FF game before it

all zodiac age does is add the ability to take a second job, which just throws you back into the first category of removing any and all challenge

*excluding 8

>literally balanced the game to make it easier on top of adding a second board to choose

What an improvement.

I believe X was great but I believe XII was the last great singleplayer FF game.

it's pretty alright

youtu.be/CVfLTGgDem0

It's easy to poke fun at, but I think there was still a lot of charm and creativity behind it.

FF9's still my go-to for the series though.

>penance

Not enough to devalue the overall content included when acknowledging the rest of IZJS's changes.

Objectively the best FF since VIII. X was hot garbage and IX was mediocre at best.

Reminder that this is the best Final Fantasy song ever.
youtube.com/watch?v=UxQXXn5DMjI

He just said he played one of the versions without Penance.

>8 is good
>9 and 10 are bad

figures a retard would defend the casualization of ZA

>no music by uematsu
Who cares? Almost all the best tracks from X weren't Uematsu anyways and he did Kiss Me Goodbye for XII.

don't mind me. just posting the only good song from x-2.

youtube.com/watch?v=F9ee_Ez6tFk

You posted the wrong song.
youtube.com/watch?v=qGIN2jkZVjE

the majority does. he was part of what made final fantasy, final fantasy.

I really like it but it certainly carried a certain difference with it that has been overwhelming the franchise with a stranglehold since
Granted I think the sprouts for it started in 7 and 8 but both of those are good for the most part even if 8 goes a bit retarded after disc1

are you serious? that sounds horrible.
