Playing the first one right now.
Seeing as there are 6 (!) of them I want to know which ones are the best.
There is only so much you can do with this combat system

the first three are the best with 3 being the best in the series.

4 is mediocre and has a horrible translation

5 and 6 are fun but they ran out of idea, though they did add a interesting mechanic in 5.

2 and 3 are superior to the first in every way.
4 is hot garbage and can be skipped with no remorse.
5 has this wierd squad based liberation mission shit going on. Play Colonel version if you're going to play it since it has more to it and you get access to better navis.
6 has the best multiplayer but it's dead so who cares.

4 is a straight up bad game and you see it right away when you try to replay it and 30% of the game is collecting shitty chips in the real world for a terrible tournament. Also the dark mode was a fucking retarded addition to the series

I can tolerate 4 but it's clearly a rushjob that was solely made for a quick buck

I suggest playing 1, 2, and 3 in order. They're fairly short games so depending on your pace and how much side and post-game content you decide to do you should be able to get through all three in around 40-60 hours.

1 is a great game but suffers from being the most bare-bones in terms of mechanics. I suggest playing through it anyway, if you've never played the series before; it's a good introduction, it's short, and you won't notice the lack of mechanics because it's all new to you. If you decide to skip 1 you probably will never be able to go back to it.

2 and 3 are the best in the series. 3 is considered by most to be the highest point of the series. If you only play a single game in the series make it 3, but be warned, if you play 3 first every other game will feel like a downgrade.

Of the last 3 games, I think 4 and 5 are pretty weak but 6 is pretty good.

Gameplay-wise it gets better with each iteration, with 6 being a very polished formula.

Content-wise and plot-wise it gets better until 3. 4 is mostly a step back. 5 and 6 are pretty competent content-wise, but the plot never truly recovered. IMO all games are worth playing if you do it in order.

If you become an autist by BN3 you can play Battle Chip Challenge and 4.5 as well.

I really like it but mostly because of the soundtrack.
The fucking soundtrack made that 7/10 game into a fucking 15/10 for me.
