The game is really good, always has been. The remaster fixed up every little problem and generously removed the game's only real bottleneck which is time. People are thirsty for a real good classic final fantasy game, and XII is both a forgotten finale in FF's line of amazing iconic titles, and an Akihiko Yoshida styled game in the Tactics universe. What's not to like? Unless you're still hung up on that old Penny Arcade comic, that is.

He's not annoying or obnoxious, he's just not important to the story at all. Basically just tags along with the real main characters, he's just your POV character

Roadmaps are helpful for finding everything else that can't be bought. Nihopalaoa accessory is a blessing to have.

Think of it like this: The main characters are:
A grizzled old knight who was betrayed by his brother and condemned for a murder he did not commit; and a princess whose kingdom was stolen from her, along with her husband, and so faked her death in order to be free to reap her vengeance against the state actors who took her country and love.

They're supported by:
Literally the most charming rogue you could ask for, bearing a past that ties into the central conflict more than anticipated, and his mysterious female companion.

And further accompanied by:
A street rat and his childhood friend, both of whom are really just in way over their heads.

They took most of the things that made it bad, and made them good instead.

I think people gave Vaan too much shit back in 2006. He is pretty tame the whole and doesn't since screw up everytime is on screen.

We were all 10 years younger and assumed Vaan was the main character even though he's just the first guy you play as and your character going through town.

Agreed. To give major spoilers to someone interested in a game and who has (it seems) literally no prior knowledge of the story is kind of a dick move.
