Lava people. It's like a giant lake to them.

>He doesn't want to impress other countries
>He doesn't want a fiery death defence perimeter if things go south

And that's why you will never rule a kingdom

Pretty difficult to attack.

>>He doesn't want to impress other countries
>>He doesn't want a fiery death defence perimeter if things go south
>And that's why you will never rule a kingdom

Yeah, but you realize just being within 10 fucking feet of lava will cause you to burst into flames from the heat alone, right?

Your question isn't specifically about the iron keep, but since you posted a picture of it I want clarify that the iron keep was just built on top of what seemed to be a normal mountain. It turned out that it was an inactive volcano, and the weight of the castle caused it to sink into the lava.

As for why someone would intentionally build a castle over lava, it's because you're a dragon turtle and you need something to burn to death in when you get your ass kicked by a plumber.

for you

The Alonne knights and the bearer of the curse chill around without any ill effects. Why wouldn't everyone else?

So potential invaders will waste time trying to figure out why instead of sacking the place.

to be fair, if you build something on earth then it is infact over a pit of lava

...

>invade this faggot with fiery castle death moat
>do what all castles seiges do and wait until they all starve because they cant get any food
>dont even try to take over castle, just let the cunts starve

Spoopy.

>Ctrl Alt Delete

Take a look at their world, their fights were against giants and monstruous creatures, not people. Those beasts don't make plans about siege castles, they just atack with full power, and because of that, the lava lake is a great plan.

It's the ultimate moat.

>The Alonne knights and the bearer of the curse chill around without any ill effects. Why wouldn't everyone else?

That's like saying because you can fall 100 feet onto the ground and not die in wow means that, canonically speaking, in wow people can fall 100 feet onto the ground and not die. It's called a gameplay mechanic.

The better question is why is there a pit of lava in the air above a windmill?
How does it cloak itself, too?

That isn't what the map actually looks like though. You can see there's no giant mountain holding the Iron Keep back there in the game. Iron Keep is literally floating in the sky

If I was writing this retarded scenario I would say that there was a particular plant that can only grow in the soil of the volcanic valley but ds likes to confuse obfuscation with mystery, then retards call it deep lore.

wow that's pretty deep

Well to answer your second question, ds1 already established that sky illusion magic exists

>sky illusion magic
What do you use it on? What point would it serve unless you're using it on the bottom side of a flying island to begin with? That basically answers nothing.

>What do you use it on?
The flying lava castle?
>What point would it serve
To hide it? I don't understand your confusion

>ds likes to confuse obfuscation with mystery, then retards call it deep lore.
I agree with one caveat, DS1 keeps it reasonable most of the time. But 2 and 3 go full retard especially when they try to vaguely link the games to each other.

Whats the point of castles anyway in a world where walls don't do anything?

walls are.....................convoluted........................in darks souls...............

Hey, I think 2 did the links to the first game pretty well. It's 3 that went full retard with everything being just copypasted from DaS.

>I think 2 did the links to the first game pretty well
Literally everyone was complaining about this shit around 2's release

>OH HEY THIS THING MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED TO THIS THING FROM DARK SOULS 1 GEE I DUNNO, THOUGH
Was basically every item description for something related to Dark Souls 1.

Take a deep breath user, take it easy with the unnecessary hyperboles and tell me how you think it should have been handled.
The only thing that pissed me off on this matter was "Ornstein", didn't understand the point of his presence beyond pure nostalgiabait and I still don't.
But the 4 great souls were all their own characters with just a little bit of their old counterparts, and I liked that.

>Have a flying lava castle
>Worry about making it look like sky from the bottom
The flying castle needs to be explained first here

>Invisible volcano with a sick castle in it

Has anything been as comfy?

Ohh so that's how that works, now explain seeing Ash Lake from Tomb of the Giants

Ok here's my game theory
The guy who built the castle realized the walls wouldn't actually keep anyone out
This is consistent lore within the series
and pic related
So then he put the castle in the sky hoping nobodies shockwaves were big enough to reach
little did he know ceaseless discharge's shockwaves are just the right size, this is where the lava comes from

according to the game, the iron king built the castle with iron so heavy that the kingdom sunk into the earth which brought forth the lava
