"how much?"
>say a number
>"too much, ok seeya"
>this is why i said how much, literally give me the price
>"user has blocked you"
>say number
>lol
>how much then
>make another offer
fuck these people
>make another offer
They just want to make you suffer at this point
>say a number
>lol this conversation is over
Hate this shit. You tell me how much you want for it, I counter offer, then we go from there
>offer an absurd price
>they want you to buy it now
>mfw ignore their replies
A seller and buyer perspective are two completely different things, the fact that people act like this bothers the fuck out of me because 8 times out of 10 they will already have a price in mind but they don't have the stones to say it.
It's a trade, you're looking to sell the item and I'm not going to reveal to you how much it's worth to me, that would immediately put me at a disadvantage in the way of haggling. You offer the fucking price and we go from there. Some people.
>reserve auction
ANYONE who supports this bullshit needs to be shot
Just offer ten percent under the going rate.
If they laugh or say no, you didn't miss out on anything. Haggling isn't that hard. If they complain, just lower the price and say you were being generous.
>selling something digital online
>Hey, do you still have this for sale?
>Yes I do
>alright, I'd like to buy it.
>Just tell me your email and I'll send it out to you right away
>user has logged off
>another user comes in and asks if it is still available
EVERY FUCKING TIME. And then after waiting hours for the original buyer to come back, you sell it to the person second in line and the first buyer hits you with negative feedback for not waiting longer.
>standard market price is 1mil and they probably want at least that
>offer them 1.5mil
>never reply after that
>2 days later the fuck still sends one more message asking if I want it after sending like 15 ignored messages before it
the answer is a lot of fucking Orbs user
>offer things for sale that I don't have
>waste people's time bargaining for as long as I can
>come clean when the deal is reached and they open trade
>go back to trade chat and offer fictitious items again
the trick is to know the price you want so you hope he offers more then that
>Selling RANDOM RETARDED ITEM 100k
>someone offers to trade me
>they only put 100 gold in the trade window
>tell them it is 100k, nobody would sell that item for 100 gold
>user IS A SCAMMER! NOBODY TRADE user HE WASTES PEOPLE'S TIME!
>try to sell item on marketplace.
>just slightly below the usual price
>chuckle fuck comes along and undercuts the price by more than half
>everyone follows suit because they seem to want to get rid of the item quickly rather than make a decent profit
>items value is now literal garbage for ages
Same shit with shit-sucking artists.
>"Commissions open! Please help me I've been eating stale ramen for months."
>Hi I have wads of disposable income and reasonable requests
>"k I'll get back to you when I have time :)"
>Watch them shit out a bunch of freebies for friends or more popular artists
>Never hear from them again
But for what purpose
Stupid fucks always think acting impatient and turning around like they're going to leave will get a desperate reaction out of you.
They can't haggle worth shit.
That's me.
>"send offer"
>"how much?"

Doing God's work though
>playing Ultima Online on a private server
>have a newbie shirt which means even if I die, it respawns with me and can't be stolen
>it is absolutely worthless
>some Japs are selling their house
>tell them I have a super rare magic shirt
>they kill me
>they can't take it because it is newbied
>come back to their house
>they still don't believe me
>I log into my second account while trying to convince them it is special
>ride up to the house on my second character and tell them "Yeah, that guy's shirt is magical and rare."
>convinced, they trade my trash shirt for their house
>I immediately sell the house to someone else because I know what is coming next
>after the Japs realize they've been fleeced they get their whole group together and repeatedly lynch the guy I sold the house to
>they keep accusing him of stealing the house with a shirt
>he has no idea what they're talking about
>he can't get his money back on the house because the market value is being tanked by a raving horde of Japs seeking vengeance over a shirt
Good times.
The seller always wants a offer first to see if you offer more than what he originally had in mind.
You have to sell the item at the market rate. That means finding out what other people are selling it for. If you just use a wiki then you won't make a profit. If you have competetive prices, you can sell at a profit margin up to 20%.
Competetive means competing.
That's me. It's specially satisfying when I get lucky and find rare drops without farming for hours. Pure profit with none of the hassle.
>respond to buyer ad
>they tell me to name my price
>item's not in the AH, lowball myself based on similar items because I just wanted it out of my inventory
>they offer a higher price than what I asked
Well I mean thank you, but I wonder what compels people to not fuck someone like me over when they easily could?
You're welcome. I do this for every item for every game. It's funny to see items become worthless because I'll get a big quantity of a rare item and sell it for a low price and then a day later see it become the average price.
Half the time i don't even know the price of the item im selling. So I ask for offers. Why does this trigger you fags so much?
Which is why he's an idiot for expecting people to immediately show their hand.
dumbass
God that reminds me of the time I ran into a high level area in Ragnarok Online, picked up some super rare card that a group of people had apparently been farming for forever and a guy had an absolute bitch fit about it. I didn't even care. I was on the two week trial.
What I was getting at that the price is usually at a steady state. some prices a bit cheaper and some more expensive. I was teetering on the cheaper side, nothing awesome but certainly worth someones attention if they wanted the item since it was the current cheapest. like say the item is work 100k. I sell for 90k. then WHAM! some asshole comes along and sells item for chump change ruining the market priceforever.
>Selling item for 4700, cheapest to buy from broker is 4900
>This tard shows up.
>I was on the two week trial.
Well no, the item is worth that when you found it. Any money you get on top of its original value is profit.
If a blowjob is $60, then a profit is getting $80. Ten percent profit. The money is good but the definition of profit is a surplus.
Compassion for other human beings.
Some people are genuinely nice. I try to help people out with market prices in games.
sometimes. Because I made about $1,000 USD running a guy through super easy dungeons on WoW once and I still feel guilt about taking him for all that money.
>$1000
Jesus Christ. I'm happy when I do a difficult map for someone in Path of Exile for free and they give me a big tip.
It takes some commercial thinking to sell stuff. Buyer might easily have none. I can't count all the times when people would do some questionable stuff like try to barter with me instead of paying up cash only for me to rob them blind for 3x the worth of the actual price in items.
>See an auction is ending soon
>No real activity on it
>Throw a random bid on it
>Big is for 25% of the items real price
>Win
>"The auction did not reach the minimum amount set by the seller and has been canceled?"
What the fucking shit is that bull shit? If there is a minimum amount just fucking start the fucking action at that amount why fucking fuck with people like that?
I once impersonated another person in Ultima Online and tricked his friends into giving me a million gold.
>the item is worth that when you found it
And time spent farming for it is money lost, even though it's a more dependable method of finding said item. That's why it's called luck.
This is not hard.
Because they either took pity or they're rewarding you for lowballing.
That's a real thing. The concept of recourse in auctions. An auction with recourse means the seller holds the right to decide whether to make final sale or not. An auction without recourse means the seller will sell the item irrelevant of the final price.
>Feeding the marketboard jew
The only winning move is to not play
>"ok 1 gold"
>"haha, fuck you fagg" >blocked
Some idiots don't know how bidding actually works.
The whole point to bidding is to try and get the item in question for cheaper than just simply buying it. These fucks come along and expect it to exceed the selling amount, trying to net themselves a profit.
In short; Greed
>Negotiable?
>No
>Ok
Not really seeing the problem here. He was wondering if you were willing to go lower, you informed him that you were not, he thanked you for your time and left.
Well, I am not a goddamn business so if I am selling something it's just to get rid of it so I have that much more space. Not to make "profit".
Fucksakes, individuals should be able to do business amongst themselves easily.
No there are faggots that think prices are "too high." So they sit there and fucking crash the market on purpose. You get it a lot with steam trading cards. There are whole groups dedicated to forcing trading cards to 0-15 cents because they feel no card should be worth more than that.
Its good short term for the item price since they buy up a lot of stock but once they drop the price its fucked for fucking ever.
>FF14
>fags selling shit for like 20 million gil
The problem is that cheaper than the cheapest price isn't good enough him.
Might as well complain that free stuff is expensive at that point.
>playing warframe
>trade a guy
>how much
>what are you thinking
>lol well im THINKING 1 plat
>I HOPE YOU GET CANCER AND YOUR WHOLE FAMILY WATCHES YOU DIE SLOWLY AND NO ONE WILL CARE WHEN YOU'RE GONE
The nuclear levels these people go are in par with chernobyl
why wouldn't you want to make a profit off an item you are trying to get rid of? It's a win/win
why tank the marketplace because you don't give a fuck?
YOU PAY THIS MUCH
wtb gf
>The problem is that he wasn't willing to pay the price I set, so instead he just amicably parted ways without making a big deal about it
Holy shit, what a fucking monster. I hope you reported him.
>find rare item
>put it to 150%-200% market price
>2 days later item is almost 100% more expensive
you are welcome lowballing faggots
Well no, that too is wrong. Time spent is not finances spent. I can spend all day in Payon and not spend anything. The item is worth that when you found it. Not after you get the money.
You don't sell a gold bar and complain that the price was undercut, or that you got pure orofit from simply finding it. The gold bar is worth that much. Any money you get in addition to that gold bar's value is profit. To an educated entrepeneur, this is the key between getting paid for your ideas and having your ideas stolen from you.
I couldn't fucking believe this shit when I saw it happening. Artists are crazy.
To be fair it's a digital item so they're not entirely wrong in what they do. It's actual objective value is infinitely close to zero anyway.
>Snipe said severely undercutted item
>Sell it at normal-high price
your shitty steam cards have no value, autist
you should be happy to get anything
>Game has an auction house
>Guy global chats that he wants to buy X item
>Auction house has plenty of item, think maybe he wants to trade something for it
>Nope, he just wants way cheaper than the cheapest price
Stop wasting everyone's god damn time.
>Time spent is not finances spent
Sure is, either when it costs you resources simply to find the item in question, or simply by the fact that you can more efficiently gain money by farming in other areas.
You seem to be having a lot of trouble with this.
>"offer"
>respond with an absurdly high amount
>"haha yeah sure"
>call him a scam artist and leave
>"Dohohoho maybe if I tell them to make an offer I'll get more than i expect!"
>Person offers slightly more than they expect
>"lol nah too low try again."
Do they seriously think this stupid shit is a life hack or something where the buyer keeps raising it forever?
But you just skipped a step in logic.
>playing wow
>saving up all my shekels to buy the mount that turns you into the two seated dragon mount so i could ferry my friends around
>found a guy who could make one, telling me once i got 35k, he would sell it to me
>get 35k, he changes his tune and starts putting on the ah for 40k and starts mocking me in trade chat
>a week later, he puts it back on the ah for 4k by accident, managed to buy it before he realized.
fucking felt so good. he had a meltdown in chat too
>people crash the price of a crafted item to below what it costs to actually make it
a $20 profit on $60 is a 33% increase not a 10 percent one. i kinda find your finance advice a little suspect if you couldnt even do that one.
>Had a guy leave a note on my car asking to buy it once with his number.
>Texted him and asked how much he wanted to pay
>Just said make an offer.
>Told him $500 expecting he'll haggle down
>I just want it for parts fuck off if you're not serious
Like I give a shit you just want it for the headlights, its a working fucking car that's not a decade old and you contacted me.
>random plebe walks up to you and opens trade
>begs for money
>I put in Fort Knox supply of gold into the chat window
>They accept the trade, I dont do anything and just wait
>They sit there for minutes and minutes
>Until they realize that they have to be the one to cancel the trade and say goodbye to the money
>Once they do it, you whisper them, "What, didnt you want it?"
How did he skip a logic step? Any time you spend standing around trying to sell an item is time you aren't spending farming, that's basic shit it's where the whole "time is money" saying comes from.
>"How much?"
>"This much."
>"B-BUT MY FRIEND GOT IT FOR CHEAPER!!"
I am that guy, not wow though.
fuck u so hard nggr
Oh I'm bad at math.
I'm a literary agent.

Pretty much all MMOs have this because the xp you gain from crafting the item also has value, it's fucking stupid but not really solvable as long as you have xp for crafting skills.
devilish
Why would it cost more? Then you could just make it and sell it constantly.
>list multiple stacks of the same item on the AH
>check back the next day
>some fuck put up a bunch of his own stacks and undercut me by 1 penny
>take all my shit off the auction house and undercut his stacks by a large amount just to spite him
or you just look up the price it generally goes for at the time and offer that and if they refuse you get on with your life instead of caring so goddamn much about trivial shit.
>Be the artist low on money
>Take an ultra-high value commission for only like 15$
>He understands the terms and that the artist is desperate
>after finishing the piece, he still takes a month to pay me
every MMO with crafting that i've played has had a percent chance for failure, so an item with an absurdly low success rate would definitely be worth a lot more than the parts
>item just bevomes available
>farm and work hard to get most of the limit supply
>sell the items at a premium, far more than what theyre worth
I just can't help myself, I get satisfaction from controlling a market.
>that guy trying to sell items for 4 times what theyre worth when other people are posting the same stuff at reasonable price all over the place
>he does the same to you
>the war begins
I wasn't proud of it at the time, I was running him through the new MoP expack dungeons, he came back like a mont hafter it launched, I took him to timeless isle and showed him the chest locations and stuff. I didn't know what to ask for, and asked for $1000, he seemed surprised it was low or something, so I just took it and ran.
Nowadays I run through mythics with my crew and we make almost $600 a month (each) doing it, guaranteed golds. It's nice, it's up front, no guilt no shaming, none of that. It's like PVP boosting but not fucking gay.
Basic sense of decency.
>sell all your shit at a very low price to spite somebody
you sure showed him!
>monopolize an item X on the marketboard
>only guy selling it
>absurdly high price
>see someone shouting in the town
>"help can someone craft me item X i have the mats"
>mfw
>sell a bunch of an expensive item at one price
>include a worthless piece of shit in there for the same price
>retards bulk buy everything without paying attention
that's why
>he seemed surprised it was low or something
Jesus Christ, he must have been a fucking oil baron or something.
But in an mmo time is not money.
The rate of drops and item steals are fixed. The logic that you can waste time hunting for lesser or greater objects is archaic in a system where drops are determined by an algorithm. If I farm for cards in RO, the only time I'm wasting is in getting there. There are tons of people sitting in Prontera right now with rare drops that they spent hours hunting for, and simultaneously, people who are selling shitty common items right next to those same merchants. There is no methodology to the "time is money" maxim when two people who have equipment from each end of the spectrum are doing business RIGHT next to each other.
The items are sure to drop. There is't anything about time that is of the essence. People are just goal oriented creatures and desire things within their own limitations.
Hey, if he's willing to hire you more power to him
