Artorias the Abysswalker

>Artorias the Abysswalker
>Ludwig the Accursed
>Orphan of Kos

These three absolutely cannot be contested. But who else belongs on the list? Nameless King? False King Allant? Ornstein and Smough? Soul of Cinder? Fume Knight? Pinwheel?

Was Pinwheel even a boss though?

Also Gael

Are you scoring difficulty or what?

O&S is probably the most iconic boss fight of the whole series

Lady Maria

Gascoigne

Ornstein and Smough for sure, probably Soul of Cinder too

>tutorial boss
no

>the build by following a little girls quest to find her father and mother
>finding him ravaging some beast after he murdered his wife/girls mother beause of his own beastly side
>the music of the battle
that was a little more than a tutorial boss fight

The lore doesn't really matter in deciding whether it's a tutorial boss or not. By that logic the Last Giant in DS2 is also more than a tutorial boss due to being the remnants if the Giant Lord.

*parries your path*

looking glass knight, tbqh

Ornstein and Smough aren't even that hard nor are they very interesting. So why are they always mentioned

They're memorable and fun and still somewhat challenging
>inb4 pic related

...

O&S, Gwyn, Nameless King, Sif, and Midir should be added. Maybe even Manus and Nito

...

I do not get the hype with kos I killed it first try and didn't see it as being much of a boss

The Champ

fuck you faggot that nigger took me over 60 tries and I wasn't underleveled.
champ is shit killed him 2nd try. Too easy to parry

Well, I killed Orphan of Kosm on my second try, but Gundyr really kicked my ass on my first playthrough. I guess he's similar to Gwyn if you don't parry-cheese.

and I beat Artorias on my first, what's your point?

Gherman, maria and maybe soul of cinder

this.

Astorias, Garl Vinland protecting Astrea and Gehrman

well this all depends on build variation and play style but more than anything it's how much you've overleveled. Fighting kos or artorias at around level 80 and 70 respectively was a nightmare.

Lady Maria?

>Garl Vinland
Why?
>watch a playthrough of DeS since I'll never buy PS3
>the player gets to Garl Vinland
>think "oh man this is gonna be great, Sup Forums told me Velstadt was just a knock-off of Garl"
>Garl is just a regular NPC in armor, not a proper boss
>he's on a very short leash, refusing to pursue the player
>he has no poise and gets stunlocked by a scimitar

Gascan is unironically one of the best bossfights in the series

What level should I be on ng+ to enter the DLC in Bloodborne? I've killed the Cleric Beast and I am level 99 now with a +10 saw and average gems in it. I've tried entering the DLC on level 92 in ng but Ludwig fucking raped me so I just watched a game movie of all the important stuff. Now I kinda feel like beating it myself

Orphan of Kos is the best bossfight in the series.
why?
because gameplay wise it encourages you to use ALL systems the game taught you throughout the game.
visceral attacks give you all your life back, and both parrying and Backstabbing are viable Options that actually make the fight easier.
he is also pretty close to a humanoid enemy, but fast with a ton of range.
and phase 2 changes the fight quite a bit with him trying to jump on you and throwing those grenades everywhere.

gameplay wise it's easily the best bossfight in these games.
presentation is arguable.

level 100 on ng+ and fucking gascoine gave me a hard time. I'd say at bare minimum level 120-130

Nah, leveling up doesn't matter that much in BB. It's much easier to hit softcaps in all the relevant stats in BB. So by the point you fight Orphan leveling any more can only mean you'll be able to use more hunter tools with higher arc requirements.
You do need to have some decent gems from the chalice dungeons though.

I've been 80 on NG+ just fine, but of course I'm also pretty bad at the game so I was probably overleveled

Isn't the tutorial boss the thing up on the bridge?

Are we talking about difficulty, quality or both? In either case, Manus and Fume Knigth should both be there.

Total level doesn't matter. If you hit 50 vit and 40 str (or whatever weapon you're using) and have it at +10 you can enter the DLC.

well there you go. I never fucked with chalice dungeons and I never played a souls game with softcaps in mind so maybe my build was a bit weak at that point. Although there's never been a boss other than kos that made me go back and farm levels just so I could continue.

I fought Artorias at SL72 and tanked him to death with a medium shield. Once I figured out his moves I could usually beat him without getting hit once. He hits hard, but he's so slow, and I got the impression that he was designed to be theatrical rather than challenging. Compare him to Gwyn, who is boring but does not fucking relent, ever, and trying to parry him is actually safer than trying to fight him conventionally.

No love for Friede.

He and Astrea live in a fucking Valley infested with nasty shit. Despite all this shit he still wants to protect her while she sits calmly in a river of blood surrounded by creepy bloody babies.
>"You will not turn back, will you?"
>"I shall let no harm come to dearest Astraea"
>"Dearest Astraea... I have failed you..."

This fight is the best in the series feels-wise along with Gwyn and Gehrman

What

>friede
>top 10 anime battles: the boss fight

>Midir
Next you're going to nominate Ancient Dragon

I'm also bad at souls games. I've beaten DeS, DS1 and BB and still can't "git gud". I'll try leveling up my vit and str but I still think I will get my ass kicked. Also can't fucking summon players because I guess nobody plays this game

he would be if you went there straight after you got access to Andre or the smith box

They're memorable precisely because they're not fun. Phase 1 takes forever and you're fucked if you bring a slow/short reach weapon, phase 2 has attacks with weird hitboxes and even worse punishment for bringing a wrong weapon. And because the AI is retarded, the most expedient option is to get them stuck behind a pillar and pelt them with arrows.

why don't you go fight Gascoigne on NG+ or something

I can help you beat Ludwig, but he's better beaten alone. The rush is amazing.

>This fight is the best in the series feels-wise along with Gwyn and Gehrman
Exactly, feels-wise, but the actual battle is boring. First you kill an NPC either by stunlocking or parrying and then the "boss" kills herself when you talk to her. It's not really a boss battle at all, just a boss encounter, and therefore I don't think it should be judged as a proper fight just like you don't judge the true King Allant "fight" as a boss battle because it's just a lore encounter and nothing more. Neither of these so called bosses have anything worth mentioning going on in them gameplay-wise.

my first time against Kos was my 10 vit challenge run character
I held the thesis that if you had all the stamina, you would be invincible so long as you knew when and what to dodge

I was right, but Kos took a fair few tries

There was one guy that I summoned. His nickname was GreatBread and some numbers. He had that shiny wheel DLC weapon and I thought wow he's gonna fuck Ludwig. He died in about 10 seconds.

>Rping as him and obliterating people online
God I love his halberd

she should have had more lore

also:
O&S
The Champ
Sif the Big Grey Doge

Flamelurker

False King Allant and Mad Monk for sure. Probably Dragon God too.

Other notable DeS bosses would be Blind Hero, Penetrator, Flamelurker and possibly the Manhunters.

False King Allant was a pretty sweet boss indeed.
Flamelurker was an asshole if you didn't have magic. Fucking immolation aura bullshit.

DS2 did it far betterwith Velstadt. Even the feels where better because you fucking cared about Vendrick and getting to him was the whole point. Astraea just pops up and kills herself.

In and out, she couldn't have left a duller impression on me. I cared about her and Garland less than I cared about the Penetrator, who actually was apretty awesome boss.

But was Vestadt there to protect Vendrick or was he his jailer, because he was corrupted by Nashandra?

Flamelurker was good, but its IA, concretely pathfinding, was pretty shit.

You shouldn't exploit that Flamelurker mano a mano was surely one of the better battles DeS had to offer.

Serious question
Why do people like artorias so much?
He's praised as one of the greatest characters in the series but he's some shitter who couldn't beat Manus and took your credit for it. His boss fight is also ridiculously easy if you have any poise at all

>His boss fight is also ridiculously easy if you have any poise at all
I almost took your post seriously.

Clearly there to protect him. I mean, the only thing really keeping Nashandra from the Throne of Want was the King's Ring.

If Velstadt and the Looking Glass Knight weren't there (both were well equipped to deal with Nashandra's hexes so she couldn't risk challenging them herself), she would have just walked over and taken it. Vendrick couldn't have stopped her in the sorry state he was.

False Allant is top notch. Nameless King is great, even if people hate him now because he's said to be very difficult by a bunch of people. Kenan and Kel are also an amazing moment in the series. Gehrman is a must-have. The Ivory King is just nuts. I'd also say Manus is somewhere up there.

I fucking love Friede, Micolash and Gael, but your mileage may vary.

Why was he using abyssal sorceries then?

I annihilated Artorias on my first run simply by having the Eagle Greatshield. He was the boss I died the least to in the whole game excluding Asylum Demon.

*Asylum and Pinwheel, but Pinwheel barely counts as a boss.

I agree a 100%.
Gascoigne was an amazing fight, and a real 'welcome to Bloodborne' moment.

>shield
>poise
Give it up, user. You have no idea what you're talking about.

>Dragonslayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough
>Knight Artorias
>Fume Knight
>Ludwig the Accursed/Holy Blade
>Orphan of Kos
>Soul of Cinder
>Champion Gundyr
>Twin Princes
>Slave Knight Gael

I thought the champ fight was easier than the first one. He was a bit tough at the start playing deprived.

Chap is really hard when you use a slow weapon, because it's really hard to even pull off any attacks without getting punished. I guess he's considerably easier for fast weapon users.

>I almost took your post seriously
I poise tanked him and beat him first try. How the fuck is that not ridiculously easy?

Scoring kino

Vendrick was just walking around in circles in the crypt right? I wanted to fight him but i didnt draw aggro so there was no point. My characters nkt a murder hobo, they just fuck shit up when it attacks them first.

Let's see a video of your feat then.
Because I actually tested poise tanking on Artorias and it just doesn't work.
But of course you have no video, because you're just bullshitting.
Dodging Artorias is way easier than trying to poisetank anyway.

Good question, he actually comes from Shulva, a civilization known in the past for its miracles and hexes. In fact, queen Elana makes for a much more powerful hexer than Nashandra was.

Velstadt is also quite the hexer but I believe several descriptions paint him as a cleric miracle-worker in his hayday. The dark within the Undead crypt might have corrupted him if so.

Personally I think that he was always able to use the Dark, only he was also profoundly loyal to his king, touched by dark or not.

Velstadt was really fucking enduring after all, even his King, the great and powerful Vendrick, lost his sanity a long time ago whereas Velstadt remained even though he was branded by da Dark.

It even makes sense that he would embrace it. What is the best way to beat a pure hexer like Nashandra?, Be a hexer yourself for that sweet, sweet dark resistance, then just whack away with your superior combat skills.

And Nashandra sure couldn't have beat Velstadt at melee in a million years.

I'm not gonna film a video to convince someone that artorias isn't hard
If you want to see one so badly then watch lobrosouls when he kills artorias first try.

Dude. Elana wasn't a shulva native, she's another shard of Manus like Nashandra.
And where does it state Velstadt was from Shulva? Just because Elana summons his copy during her boss fight doesn't mean anything.

I'm not the guy you originally replied to

I was just agreeing with them that Artorias can be easy as fuck if you go tanky.

Overall experience. Bosses that brought and were profoundly satisfying to fight. Difficulty + general gameplay + theatrics + lore...everything. It depends largely on personal preference, I think. For instance I'd say Micolash is a viable choice because his VA and his theme are both god-tier, despite the fact that the actual fight is a joke and chasing him on subsequent playthroughs is annoying.

Nashandra would have probably drawn his aggro. I mean, she was his love and later the person he feared and despised most, the reason why Vendrick locked himself up.

If she had barged in just like that Vendrick might hAve recognized her instintively. He had her image carved on his sword after all.

And that's a no-go because whithout some giant souls Nashandra was as good as dead even against a hollow Vendrick.

Again, block tanking and poise tanking are drastically different gameplay styles.

I understand that

I was, again, just agreeing that Artorias can be trivialized. I bet poise tanking is only slightly less effective than using a high stability 100% block shield.

How do you poise-tank Artorias? Motherfucker has a ton of HP and deals big-dick damage, trading hits doesn't really seem viable. You have to be pretty high level to do that I imagine.

He's squishier than you would imagine
Granted I did have a b.k halberd though

Dragon God was the biggest disappointment

You still get stuff like best girl Dark Greatsword, Promised Walk of Peace, Profound Stillness and Sanctuary Shield / Crossbows in Shulva.

Elana might have come to Shulva, but it was not a stranger to the dark before her.

Also, well, it doesn't state anything anywhere as far as I know, but I do find it relevant that she summoned Velstadt.

And remember. He was a cleric warrior on a country where clergy didn't have any actual power and sure didn't have any warrior priest tradition.

But know who was all really fucking deus vult with their warrior priests?, the Archdragon Sect of Lindelt in the Amana Shrine.

Not only do several item/spell descriptions refer to them as possessing dark, demonic powers, but they also sport the slumbering dragon of Shulva on their shields and etc.

They are probably exiles / survivors from there. Either way there's a connection. You could say the Archdragon Sect - Velstadt connection is flimsy, but remember, they took base on Amana Shrine and stood too in Nashandra's way to Vendrick.

kys user.
Bloodborne is my favorite soulsborne game, and Ludwig/Orphan are pure kino, but I don't agree. Greatest boss fights are
1.Gael
2.Orphan
3.Friede
4.Maria

Then in no particular order, Gehrman, Hot Doge, Champion Gundyr, Nameless King, Abyss Watchers, Midir, Sully, Dancer, Twins, Nameless King, Demon in pain/From Bellow, Fume, Ivory, Sinh, Alonne, Chariot, Velstadt, Mirror Knight.

But THE greatest boss fight From has made so far is Gael. It used to be Orphan, but Gael is just Orphan on steroids, just like Friede is Maria but better and cuter. No doubt their next game will have its own version of Gael of Kosm but EVEN better.

I fully agree, but the 'fight' wasn't bad per se, its just that having it as one of your main bosses is a major letdown, specially after Flamelurker, who actually posses a challenge.

>just like Friede is Maria but better and cuter
>and cuter
thems be fighting words

Slave Knight Gael
Fume Knight
Sir Alonne
Ornstein and Smough
Lady Maria

I just like it because it makes sure you remember how to fight Gascoigne.

>"YOU'RE STILL FUCKING BACKDASHING? HOW ABOUT A DICK IN YOUR ASS."

He was fun.

How dare you speak to me or my waifu user.

Maria is fantastic, in every aspect (I LITERALLY bought a PS4 a month ago and a brand new BB just so I can replay it (for the 18th time) and beat Maria again, and after doing so the PS4 died, no regrets), but Friede is just better.
>tfw "avert thine eyes"
>tfw Father Ariandel starts sperging out harder than a DaStard on Sup Forums
>tfw Blackflame Friede
The way she airflips and noscopes you with blackflames is just porn for your eyes

>Top 3
Ludwig the Accursed
Orphan of Kos
Gerhman

>Top Ten
Ludwig the Accursed
Orphan of Kos
Gerhman
Maiden Astrea
Ornstein & Smough
(False) King Allant
Looking-glass Knight
Father Gascoigne
Lady Maria
Vordt of the Boreal Valley

>Orphan of Kosm when Gael exists
>Maria when Friede exists
>Ornstein and Smough when Demon in pain and Demon from below exist

Otherwise your taste is good, but where are the DaS3 bosses? DaS3 has the best bosses from has made so far, where is gundyr, nameless king, twins, sully?

Forgot about Sully.
Replace Vordt with Sully.

The rest of the DaSIII bosses didn't do much for me.

Remove Arty, add Manus, Nameless King, Champion, SoC and Gael.

>implying Old Burger King wouldn't stomp all your shitty bosses combined.

I would also mention as great boss fights:

>Priscilla
>Four Kings
>Sif
>Gwyn
>Ornstein & Smough
>Artorias
>Manus
>Executioner's Chariot
>Lost Sinner
>Belfry Gargoyles
>Royal Rat Vanguard
>Freja
>Smelter Demons
>Demon of Song
>Darklurker
>Throne Watcher & Defender
>Elana
>Aava
>Aldrich
>Oceiros

All these might not be the best, but they are certainly great, the better bosses of their respective games.
