It is a flawed masterpiece.

You tell me

youtube.com/watch?v=KkVwuWH-woA

youtube.com/watch?v=jGE6wdk8Xe4

It manages to get boring.
After 20 hours i feel burned out.

There's flaws in it obviously, but most people agree that they're not dealbreakers.

As say it's pretty long (30 hours, 40 hours if you want to complete it to 100%), so if you find it boring (and especially dislike backtracking) your itnerest in it might drop. However I think the game is very open and the areas are varied so whenever I was getting fed up with somewhere I could explore somewhere else.

Its boring as fuck, developers decided to make the game exciting only when you are fighting bosses the rest is just a fucking snorefest, the music doesnt help either its ambiental as fuck, the devs wanted to put you to sleep with this game.

I don't think the map system is good. The fact is shows the entire room when you've been in it as opposed to each section makes it way too easy to miss things. I don't think the concept of it only updating at the bench adds much to the game either beyond introducing some more needless backtracking because you happen to forget where you've been until doing so. I've never seen a good argument for it.

>glaring flaws

The hit stun always ends up making me panic and I usually die. I really really fucking hate the pause after getting hit. Also spikes sending you back is really shitty.

The answer to your question is no.

This is probably the game's biggest problem, it also seems weird how all you have to do is enter a room for the whole thing to show up on your map when you sit at a bench. Sometimes once I found the bench I'd enter all the adjacent rooms then go to the bench just to get a more complete map.

It should work like Metroid and Castlevania where it updates as you go alone in grid fashion once you get the map from Cornifer.

Agreed with the boring music. Tell me this game wouldn't be better with a more SOTN-like soundtrack.

It wouldn't fit well, imo. I like the music as is.

can you mod this game? I would want to add the SOTN soundtrack into the game

Rain World is harder and better.

Rain World is better, but it's easier.

rain world is another shit game,

oh whats that? you didnt find another shelter when exploring and its starting to rain already? Now you are dead and all your advances are deleted because you didnt explore in the right direction.

The game is way too cryptic all the time

Unity Engine

rain world is just some art game, it's not actually meant to be played or enjoyed necessarily.

>easier
>have to find sources of food
>have to find a shelter before rain time
>have to escape deadly predators that makes Hollow Knight enemies look like goombas

It's a very solid game, but unless you missed pretty much everything your first time, it's not worth another run. It'll just feel like a chore

Oh and fuck the Trial of Fools. Unquestionably was the worst part of my 100% run

>and all your advances are deleted
If you mean the map thing, that got patched after "overwhelming player feedback" (their words).

Really, it's like Dark Souls in that while death is easy, there's no penalty for death. So you can just run about without caring. I think this is a problem.
Yeah but it's easy if you just play slowly and carefully, especially when combined with the above.

>it's not worth another run.
Disagree, the game is actually very non linear design and you can do a lot of sequence breaks by mastering down slash jumping and if you know where some of the secrets are you can access late game areas very early on like Deepnest from Fungal Waste.

>Oh and fuck the Trial of Fools.
Yeah this is just bad.

ToF is not bad.

To the people that find Hollow Knight hard, did you also find Cave Story hard?

I only found HK hard because my framerate was quite low. But it got patched.

i can't believe i have to post it again...
yeah, i admit, the "graphics" are good, the music is a blessing for the ears, but these can't make me forget what i posted some days ago, on another HK thread...

>slowly and carefully,
>If you mean the map thing, that got patched after "overwhelming player feedback" (their words).

only if you use the second patched character. Playing with the normal slugcat or the hunter keeps the rain.

Is Moogy-denka right about Hollow Knight?

twitlonger.com/show/n_1spsblb

>2/10:
> Hollow Knight - Boring and monotonous, with oversized screens that offer no meaningful challenge on a micro level. Blindly copies Souls games in all the most annoying ways. Confused, oversaturated visual design that draws the player's eyes everywhere except where they should be looking. This has nothing to offer over any other ~indievania~, so set your sights elsewhere.

The map thing = losing map progress on death. That's no longer a thing.

Going slowly and carefully is quite possible even taking into account the rain.

>dream bosses are hard
>Sup Forums is this bad at video games
Damn. Also, why in the world would you be entering the white palace without those upgrades? They're pretty hard to miss.

Considering you need all of those upgrades to even access the White Palace I'm not seeing how that's a flaw and I didn't need a guide for a single piece of Pale Ore and the only Charm I needed to use a guide for was the one in The Hive.

The only valid point there is that the backtracking becomes more and more tedious the larger the map becomes.

>Confused, oversaturated visual design that draws the player's eyes everywhere except where they should be looking

Nigga needs to get his eyes checked

fuck off /vn/

He's right for the wrong reasons

>Need to waste a valuable notch slot just to see your position on the map

How do you manage to fuck up a map system so bad? It's been perfected since super metroid. There's a reason all other games copy it

Dream bosses aren't that bad honestly

>Soul Tyrant
Get the shadow dash and that's the fight won. It's intense, but no cheese needed. For the second stage, focus on purely dodging and don't try to heal at all if you screw up, that's it

>Lost Kin
A bitch normally, yep, but Defender's Crest(1 charm slot), kills his whole gimmick and makes the fight straight forward

>Failed Champion
Toughest of the bunch imo, but not horrible. Shadow dash + maybe sharp shadow for the dash distance is enough.

Besides, since you don't technically die in any of them, you can slap on Fragile Strength and go to fucking town as long as you want

sex the hornet

What about Breeta?

You know you're on the same level as furries, right?

what are bug fuckers called?

exoskellies?

chitinies?

shellies?

You know what, the game was a blast for me. I enjoyed the combat, the exploration was fun, and the lore was interesting.

buggies

combat was nyquil tier, put the game down after 2 hours and have no idea when I'll actually pick it back up

>game comes out
>Sup Forums loves it, universal board-wise praise

>game gets popular
>suddenly Sup Forums hates it, it was never good
>overrated piece of trash

ever tim

>I like other game better so this one can't be good

yes that is what happens every time

you should be used to it by now

Yeah the two games are completely different, so different they're not even in competition.

Favorite area?

This. One of the most underwhelming metroidvanias I've ever tried

city of TEARS

One of the best metroidvanias I've ever played. When the game ended I almost killed myself.

You are now realizing that the rain comes from the Blue Lake which is located directly above City of Tears.

>universal praise
It was criticized since the first time it was posted.

>games comes out
>shills love it

>game gets popular
>people either love it or realize it was shilled and hate it

FTFY

yes.

dunkey said it was 10/10

that means universal praise

>ironic weebs

Decent tansakuvania.

What's funny is Japan likes Trump. Were he in P5 the protagonists would've definitely been rooting for him since they basically say "drain the swamp" themselves over and over again.

are you from a parallel universe?

Flaws

>money is horribly balanced, you need to buy a ton of things to make the map useful at the start of the game, but the end game leaves you with next to nothing to buy
>combat starts out overly simple, takes a few bosses for it to really flesh out
>most common enemies aren't all that interesting to fight, they largely serve as obstacles for the platforming
>unity engine causes the game to have performance issues when it has 0 right to have them
>plot is intentionally vague, making the true final boss kind of unsatisfactory
>too many filler boss fights that are dull, boss fights range from awesome to dull because of this

That being said, I love the game.

i said "even with them" implying i had them way before i entered white palace
>fragile strengh charm
that's why the dream bosses are bad, even if the charm is easy to obtain, you need it because dream bosses are fucking health sponges.

'no'

I beat the game and still don't know what the fuck the story was

I don't remember amazing mirror being a metroidvania

shit rankings

not him but amazing mirror is definitely a metroidvania

except instead of finding permanent powerups that help you progress, you absorb temporary powerups to solve puzzles and find new doors

I think you linked the wrong page, his 2/10 review is Bloodborne. Also I don't listen to anyone that has an anime avatar.

The Trial of Fools was fun, and one of the few challenging things to do in the game. Why would you dislike it?

Reminder that if you used the Defender's Crest on the Lost Kin that you are bad at games, and that you don't get the right to call HK easy.

>except instead of finding permanent powerups that help you progress, you absorb temporary powerups to solve puzzles and find new doors
so it's not a metroidvania but a kirby game?
do you count wario land 3 then too?

look at the fucking map, retard

Now look at a real map.

Amazing Mirror is most certainly a Metroidvania

What about it?
It's like saying "Yea it's a rogue-like, except instead of having perma-death you lose a few items".

I really liked amazing mirror but a metroidvania it is not.

I didn't say you didn't have them, I asked why you were implying someone would go into the white palace without those.

how is it not a metroidvania?

How is it one?

Those are not mutually exclusive.

you explore a huge open ended map, you find new items and powers, you backtrack to find new areas and bosses

Bosses too easy and the music is mediocre but overall a good experience.

youtube.com/watch?v=sovl0YHc8KI

imagine if ti had music like this.

>music is mediocre
youtube.com/watch?v=MyZylLMiFeY
youtube.com/watch?v=ABXga9y0B3I
youtube.com/watch?v=1unm0LS10ao
youtube.com/watch?v=5rwagL7Yrxo
youtube.com/watch?v=oIIuwtDL_ok
youtube.com/watch?v=ziG-p9bpIro

and that maks it a metroidvania? any game with a "find the red key" is a metroidvania then I guess

Why would posting said mediocre tracks prove they aren't mediocre?

i don't think you understand what a metroidvania is

>Tracks that perfectly capture the desolate and bleak atmosphere of Hollownest are mediocre
City of Tears is literally the GOAT Metroidvania song.

The Japanese have much more precise genre descriptions than Americans.

>it's supposed to sound shitty and lifeless!

Every Metroidvania has vertical scrolling too, post immediately discarded.

the word is ambient

The word is bland

I don't think so buddy.
youtube.com/watch?v=cfTLvQ9TZhg

City of Tears and the Radiance are good but the rest suck, just admit it.

Yeah, the music in Super Metroid and SotN does a great job establishing atmosphere, and it's actually fun to listen to. Minimalism isn't the height of atmospheric.

Momodora Reverie in the moonlight and Pharoah rebirth were better.

maybe some guy trying to do a glitched 100% speedrun or some shit, skipping massive gameplay element, who knows?
or i'm just so salty when i talk about this place that i start talking shit...

How people struggled with the White Palace is still unfathomable to me, I heard about how it took hours and hours to do but I cleared it in forty minutes.

Must be a casual filter because there was very little the game asked of you that you hadn't done before to get other secrets hidden throughout the world.

You'd be surprised how bad a majority of Sup Forums actually is at video games.

Daily reminder that La-Mulana is an objectively better metroidvania than Hollow Knight and anyone that says otherwise is trash at the game. Don't bother debating. You'll only make a fool of yourself.

>i'm supposed to bait because i have shit taste and i want to share them
stop, you're just bullshitting right now... take my (you) and get the fuck out
