Is it true that Morrowind and Oblivion are better than Skyrim or is just a meme?

Is it true that Morrowind and Oblivion are better than Skyrim or is just a meme?

It's true

Which one do you have more fun playing?

Have you played either of them? Skyrim is just a shitter version of Oblivion

Base skyrim is dogshit, so yes

Morrowind - People will tell you the combat is horrible. It's not. If you start off as a Redguard, you'll have high stats, good long blade skill and a daily power that'll give you the edge in combat. I will say, however, that it is literally Wizard simulator. No game has managed to make spellcasting more fun. It's game breaking, but that's okay. I don't want to spoil anything, but very important characters who are self-aware they're in a video game tell you to break the game because it's the only way you'll win. And he's not wrong. OpenMW is out, MO is very good, there's a lot of ways to play the game and it literally is a masterpiece, 10/10.

Oblivion is very good. It starts slow and can 'feel' generic, but it's anything but. The voice work gets a bad rap, but when it came out, that shit was revolutionary. The world is dense and there's a lot to do. There's some stream lining, mainly with skills and leveling up. The only real problem Oblivion has is the level scaling, which is easily circumvented if you download an XP mod, which I'd definitely recommend. Also, Shivering Isles is 10/10

Skyrim is just garbage. Doesn't even compare.

yes

nope, not really.

They're all flawed games, but Morrowind is by far the best out of the three.

It's obtuse and weird, but that's part of the charm. You get sucked into this weird fantasy world that feels very familar but also very alien. Oblivion and Skyrim made TES more managable, the mechanics and lore are way more accessible; but in the process they got rid of a lot of things that made Morrowind such a compelling game.

Morrowind is harder to get into, but it also gives way more back if you do.

They each have their pros and cons over the other in my mind. I have the most hours in Skyrim, at 300 hours between standard edition and SSE, but Morrowind is probably my overall favorite. I'd say I like Oblivion the least because it feels like a weird half measure between Morrowind and Skyrim without the highs of either. Although it's probably fair to say the Oblivion quest design and writing is more interesting than Morrowind and less repetitive than Skyrim.

harder difficulty != better game

Skyrim is the best TES game

It has nothing to do with difficulty, dumbass.

interesting argument.

Heavily Modded
Oblivion > Morrowind > Skyrim

Vanilla/lightly modded
Morrowind >> Skyrim > Oblivion

Porn
Skyrim >> Oblivion >>> morrowind (except nostalgia faps)

Daggerfall > Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim > Arena

Morrowind > Skyrim > Oblivion

Oblivion was complete trash.

Storywise Skyrim is a fucking mess, from the main quest to the Thieves Guild questline every single storyline is full of plotholes and inconsistencies so yeah Morrowind and Oblivion have it beat at that.

>morrowind
>hard
Do you know how I know you've never played it/quit 5 minutes after reaching balmora

...

More interesting than you thinking that Morrowind is hard cause you were too retarded to play it.

Morrowind:
>Great story
>Great exploration
>Mediocre gameplay (not bashing the hit chance, that's your own fault if you fuck up there)

Oblivion:
>Okay story
>Great setting
>Decent gameplay (removed rng, but still a bit of a challenge)

Skyrim:
>Poor story
>Decent exploration (Admit it, lots of nice locations)
>Poor gameplay (Watered down from Oblivion)

I'd still play Morrowind over the other two. The story and setting are much better, ignoring Cliff Racers.

Morrowind is easy as long as you know how to make a decent build and avoid useless skills. Skyrim is easy no matter what you do.

I see your point, very interesting. Consider me convinced.

Oblivion is my favourite out of the TES games
I love how parts of the World give off a peaceful atmosphere with these bright contrasting colours and calm music but if you look deeper things are darker than you expect

How To Survive 2. Game is like the Diablo series, but with zombies. But it's tedious as fuck because there is a thirst meter and a hunger meter. You constantly have to search for food and water or else the bar depletes on you causing your health to get lower and lower. This type of concept sounds cool on paper, but is tedious as god damn fuck when put into motion. The game is decent. But it's literally a grindfest.

See the problem with Skyrim (and oblivion in a sense but nowhere near as bad) is that it is EXACTLY like Morrowind's gameplay minus the dice roll and minus any roleplaying potential. The only improvement skyrim has made to the ES formula was streamlining the menus and making them easier to navigate, and arguably the removal of dice roll combat.

And honestly it being like Morrowind isn't the problem itself but just that they perfected the formula and then decided to hack away good pieces of it in favor of streamlined bullshit for normies.

Daggerfall > Oblivion > Morrowind > Skyrim

?

...

Oblivion
>Great setting
pls. Oblivion was 10000 acres of generated forest floor and little else. Doesn't matter that Cyrodiil sounds cool when it looks drab

The objectively correct rating is the following:
If gameplay/mechanics is important to you, Skyrim > Oblivion > Morrowind
If setting/lore/exploration is important to you, Morrowind > Skyrim > Oblivion
If you want the objectively best game
Morrowind > Skyrim > Oblivion
If you want the most "simple fun",
Skyrim > Morrowind > Oblivion

Ahh fuck. I'm on the wrong tab. I'm using this god damn Mimi Sup Forums browser and I'm still not used to it.

they're all very good games, each for a mostly different set of reasons

I genuinely just want an Oblivion or New Vegas port to the Switch. I have almost no time to play vidya at home and I just want to have those games on the go.

I'm even cautiously hyped for Skyrim on the switch becuase I'll actually have time to sit down and play it. Even though there's no mod support or anything.

I know you've been trained to despise Skyrim's writing, and I know Morrowind's writing is much better, but do NOT fall for the "Oblivion is good because it's old" meme.

Oblivion has some good chunks. As many will mention, the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild are the highlights of the game. That's a small portion of the game, though. The majority is dealing with characters, and those characters never share a thought more thrilling than "I saw a mudcrab today. Disgusting creatures."At least in Skyrim, NPC's you couldn't converse with fed you lines designed to give you a glimpse into their attitude and motivations. Each one had a schedule including working, sleeping, socializing, pretty much what a normal person does. Maybe offered you some commentary on what's happening in the world. In Oblivion, NPC's read you a sentence from the game manual and walk around doing absolutely nothing all day. It makes the world feel very lonely. Companions don't have quests or backstories (Aside from one filthy orc.)

I know I'm talking about writing here but I want to touch on dungeons. Morrowind had interesting dungeons that were massive mazes, and Skyrim had bland dungeons that didn't last too long. Oblivion took the worst from both and had massive dungeons that were boring as hell. The worst are the Oblivion realms. What makes them worse than the others is that they're everywhere, and when they spawn, they ruin the atmosphere by turning every make-your-eyes-bleed red and you have to beat the dungeon to make Cyrodiil look comfy again. Inside each Oblivion gate is a 15~ minute quest that forces you to stare at these colors and listen to artifically garbled voices of the same 5 voice actors you heard all game. And trust me, there ARE only 5 voice actors.

Morrowind is better on anything plot, character, setting wise and Skyrim has the improved graphics, gameplay and modding.

There is literally nothing that Oblivion has better than any of them. Anything Oblivion could ever give you, Skyrim can give you either.

Also, why people praise Oblivion's questline that much? It was too simple and badly written too.

Where's the option that showcases Skyrim's dogshit main quest story and most of the guild quest stories AND side quest stories? Would that rank Oblivion above it in such a category so you omitted it due to your hateboner for a mediocre game?

Oblivion's side quests are the best of three.

Is Oblivion seriously considered "old" these days?

>People will tell you the combat is horrible. It's not.
Stopped reading there.

>Oblivion's side quests are the best of three.
And yet when people talk about how great they were they can only name the painting and the Dark Brotherhood quests.

...

>Arena
>Excellent tier

It's considered "old" because it's a game from last generation that could have run on the original Xbox from 2 generations ago.

Oblivion could not have run on the original Xbox sweetie.

Morrowind > Daggerfall > Skyrim > Oblivion

I'd rather stab myself in the dick than play Oblivion again

Get your head out your ass, hipster.

Arena and Daggerfall are shit games with ten times more world padding than Diablo 2.

The boat inn, the mages guild before you become a proper member is all great, the one with the wood elf, I think it's called Paranoia, Mazoga the Orc, Thieves Guild, the one in the Imperial City dealing the merchants, the kidnapped Argonian girl and that creepy little village, and plenty more.
But by all means keep being a faggot.

morrowind>>>>>>>>>skyrim>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>literal shit>>>oblivion

Oblivion is by far the worst of the three.
Morrowind is great with lots of big flaws. Is very fun to explore, both due to how limited level scaling is and also how varied and difficult to cross the terrain is.
Oblivion is a turd. Is ugly, dull, flat-out boring. And for all its flaws it barely added anything of worth to the series (poisons, real traps, modern physics, one-button magic).
Skyrim is just mediocre. The game is vert front-loaded which is why casuals and game journalists loved it, but the more you play the more you feel suffocated by how restrictive it is.

>the world is dense
>oblivion

nice b8 m8, skyrim literally BTFO almost every other rpg in terms of it's world

Didn't play Skyrim, and don't want to. But played Morrowind and Oblivion. And I liked Oblivion more, because of it peaceful atmosphere, and beautiful world - colors green grass and blue sky, and rainy sometimes. In Morrowind, there was shit mashroom world, which I didn't like. but there was good exploration. Anyway, I want to play Oblivion again, but not Morrowind.

this user gets it

>Daggerfall
congrats on your (You)

if that's your reasoning then you'd have no problems with skyrim, which is all aesthetics and shit everything else.

Morrowind is better, Oblivion is debatable but it does have better quests for sure. Skyrim's quests are trash.

they're all shit

fpbp

No Skyrim is shit tard. It's fucking gray n shit. Anyway after Dark Souls, I don't want to pay all that shit: Skyrim, fallout new Vegas, fallout 4. Even Witcher 3 (but I will try it)

>green grass
You mean ugly cartoony acid green grass.

Fuck you CNN libtard

>Morrowind had big dungeons
No, not really, most of them were rather short, but not linear
Sure it had some big ones but those weren't the norm

lol at actually wanting dice roll combat. getting rid of that shit was the best thing the series ever did. Now all it needs to do is make combat more like Chivalry or Mount&Blade and it'll be great.

They're all bad. They all feel outdated after just one year, the combat system is bad, sluggish, slow, one-sided and boring. There's just way too little variety in them. The dungeons in skyrim were fun, but after you've been in 3, you've literally seen them all. Come on, how lazy can devs be to only make 3 dungeon varieties?

its a meme
if you started with skyrim you wont have the nostalgia neccessery to enjoy them as much as other people do

Patrician choice my man

they cater to different playstyles. Morrowind is very much attribute-based, so your attacks have very little to do with accuracy; you can, through glitching, push your stats high enough to kill a god. In fact, it's a plot point.

Skyrim is much more action oriented, and I prefer this. Some people can't stand it. Oblivion is okay, and it was the best-looking game on the Xbox 360 for awhile (and the first glimpse of "NEXT GEN" for many of us), but it's nowhere near as good as Skyrim, for my money.

Do you know what a dungeon is? It's a place where bad guys live. A home.

Nobody wants to live in a maze with twists and turns where you need a damn map to get out of your house, so why would 5 bandit buddies want to hole up in the cave from As Above So Below?

My house is linear and it protects my belongings just fine.

Yes and no. None of the 3 games are very good as while they all have huge ups, they all have massive downs. Sad because if you combined the best of each game you'd have something truly great on your hands.

>add dozens, even hundreds of mods to Skyrim and Morrowind
>works perfectly, never crashes
>add 10 mods to Oblivion
>crashes after 3 seconds

combat in morrowind is fine, people who complain about it just failed to understand it properly.

>fallout 3 over 4

Come on now. I'm not the biggest fan of 4, but 3 was fucking awful.

Morrowind yes
Oblivion hell no

It depends on your tastes and preferences really. Morrowind has more depth than the others, but very shitty combat by comparison.

It's not fine. Even if it wasn't based on dicerolls, it's still very barebones. The most depth it has is each weapon has 3 attacks, but that's fucking pointless when only 1 of those 3 is clearly better. Skyrim has better combat than Morrowind by far, you can't even make an argument other than "You never miss in Skyrim tho!!"

What you said is irrelevant to what I was refering to in my post.
But to counter your post: Skyrim's hallways are not good living spaces so don't even try to defend it

Morrowind is great. It doesnt care to hold you by the hand unlike Skyrim that felt like a long tutorial from start to finsih.

>you have no levitation potion or spell?
>well FUCK YOU, no House Telvanni quest progress for you
>you want to know where to find potions and spell? go out there and serach for yourself, faggot. jeez.

for some reason it worked very well. even small achievments were rewarded and felt like you worked for it

gothic is better than all of them desu

That's already been established here
