Come on OP the old fallouts had good lore and world design but the mechanics were SHit.

The story, lore, world and role playing are what make Fallout 1 and 2 so great I agree. Anyone who says it's the combat is completely full of shit. It always felt like an inferior X-COM UFO Defense to me. I far prefer the FPS combat in 3 NV and 4.

There's nothing wrong with that, your character is bad at shooting so he misses his shots, plain and simple. The combat is bad because it's unbearably slow, but you missing because of your stats is perfectly fine.

I recently bought Fallout 1 and 2 on Steam and, holy shit, this has not aged well. I've played Baldur's Gate, so I'm familiar with this kind of RPG, but the action point system is goddamn atrocious (what, I have to walk around in a fight just so I can punch a rat?). The inventory being one long, unsorted scrolling bar of items doesn't help, either.

It was more of a casual filter. Witcher 1 combat was piss easy once you got a grip of NOT mashing left mouse button and realized importance of potions. I never had any trouble with Witcher 1 combat system, mostly because I played Gothic as kid and was used to strange controls.
