I wish I didn't have to be willfully ignorant of so many things in order to like Shadow. Most of his own game, even a few things things he said in SA2 and Heroes, his attitude in spin-off games post-ShTH and his appearance in Sonic Boom.
The comics are the only medium that do Shadow's character justice. None of that needless swearing or overplayed superiority complex and edginess he has in the games. He's a reserved loner, but he still cares about his friends, and doesn't say retarded things like he does in the games.
you can thank SA2 retards and his solo game apologists for the hate he gets
shadow is pretty fun in the racing/fighting and sports games
I've always quite liked him. He had a DMC1 Dante style give no fucks attitude that broke away to caring more than anyone else when shit got real, and his running animation is 10/10.
DAMN, NOT HERE
He was actually a pretty nice straight man in Sonic Rivals 1 and 2. No edginess, no brooding, not even as grumpy as he was in 06. All he did was show up to get shit done.
He's just that kind of character that you love when you hit puberty but can't stand anymore after your 14th birthday
Nothing wrong with the concept, the execution in Heroes and Shadow was the issue. People criticise. The "edge factor", you have to understand that this was the zeitgeist at the time and what kids wanted to see. He was sleek, modern and basically a Sonic if Sonic was created in the 2000s instead of the 90s. It would be like criticising Korn for beibg edgy, it's like no shit, that's the point.
I wonder if they'll get him right in Forces. I feel like he'll get beaten in a boss fight and fade back into the background. It'd be cool if the theory of him being Shadow ripped during the events of SA2 are true.
He should have stayed dead for longer. Also his backstory was fine in SA2. The ay lmao shit was pointless.
They got him right in Lego Dimensions
Shadow is cool.
This version is the coolest though.
The comic played with it a bit, which is why it worked. We'll see how IDW handles him.
Is this from Sonic Universe?
"le ebin silly humor xdd" trash is never right.
He was fine in SA2, I just think he should've stayed dead and they should've explored the possibility that Heroes gave where the Shadow you see in every game after SA2 he was a clone.
That said I will always think Metal Sonic is the better rival character to Sonic, but that's because I grew up watching the Sonic OVA as a kid.
didn't that comic have him dress up like vanilla and act girly and pure?
Don't mind him at all. SA2 was a great game, he was great in Heroes, he just went maximum overedge in his own game and he's been relegated to the background ever since (ignoring 06).
would love to see a plot point where shadow from forces gets thrown into the mania 2 universe but i know it will never happen
Yes, the issue where they meet Eclipse.
Yeah but Metal Sonic's there to strictly work under Eggman. It was nice how Shadow could play to either side.
They could make Tails reprogram Metal Sonic to be a good guy just like he did with Gemerl in Advance 3
I unironically like Adult Sasuke
>Comradery
if he wasn't an anthropomorphic hedgehog and there was no absurdity people probably wouldn't even have that much of an opinion of him
honestly not even that edgy, even in the game where he has fucking taken up firearms and shit it's entirely gore-free and you can get all power of friendship if you want to. my biggest problem with him is that his solo game was one of the worst video games i have ever played in my life
Pic related is the best edgelord of anime anyway
>tfw you will never spent billions of dollars to build a dragon-shaped jet
cool uncle and deadbeat dad is so far removed from anything this guy was as a kid that i can barely consider them the same character
Bountyhunter Jew > Edgy Teenanger
he once wanted to kill Sonic for doing a poor job at assembling IKEA furniture
Well yeah, Eggman is Sonic's main villian throughout the series, despite as of late usually some other Badguy usurps him. So it's fitting that the main Villain built Sonic's main Rival. And Metal Sonic has betrayed Eggman before, but all things considered even if he did have free will he'd probably go out of his to spite sonic. If I remember right his theme from that virtual fighter game is named Never Let it Go
Also when Shadow started becoming more of a strictly good guy character he became less of Sonic's rival and kind of just faded into the background. Hope Forces makes him a little more relevant again, even if he is probably the most likely to betray Eggman from that little goonsquad he's in. Though all of them except maybe Metal I see betraying Eggman one way or another.
Normally I'd say yes, but then i see people unironically excited for a thing like Infinite and that puts things in perspective, Shadow ain't that bad (bar solo game)
Only because having both Naruto and Sasuke in the village would make it impossible for Boruto villains to exist. This is what happens when you don't put a powercap on your universe.
That was a fan comic.
Shadow's the only one with any depth to his story. He doesn't deserve the hate that he gets beyond his teenage fanfic-tier design.
The intro combined with shit like this is why people make fun of itso much
youtu.be
Yeah, he was probably confused given that it was drawn by one of the Archie illustrators
He just need to reunite with his true love.
shadow staying as a hanger-on of the series just makes me wonder if they were going anywhere between all the parallels between he and sonic, looking identical and having the same powers despite sonic being a regular guy and shadow being a government superweapon
i'm kind of glad they've swept that all under the rug and are going forward with pretty much fresh continuities or soft story reboots in every new game
nah, they've already asspulled ways around that. like every other villain or threat sucks energy, and those two are usually crippled by being at like 10% capacity or having been fighting a war for three consecutive days without food, water, sleep, or rest, and most recently a decade of being totally unthreatened by anything and being lazy complacent fucks
He was shit in his own game but okay everywhere else.
Yeah but isn't that kind of his original basis that he was a Superweapon? I mean I can get what you mean if you are saying you are glad they don't make him dwell on his edgy backstory as much anymore. but that was kind of his gimmick in the first few games he was in.
Also I wouldn't say it's fair to call Sonic just a "regular guy" when he's the main hero of his series and probably the strongest character in his universe too. And I am glad it's never explain why, as far as games go.
That certainly explains alot thanks.
I actually liked Shadow, but I would have preferred him to stay dead after SA2.
Yes because he represents the melodramatic self parody of a story that is Sonic Adventure and the rest of Sonic games with plot. Its laughably bad. Only good that came from him was being a fun character in the comics, which aren't as serious.
Is this the anti-mobius version? Say that it is.
It's a photoshop
Can I read universe without reading the main comic?
This. He wasn't even a real character. He was a glitch from the 2d sonics that faggots begged the devs to make into a real character. Everything about him is terrible.
I imagine that's how shadow would act if he was made back in the 90's
>SA2 was a great game,
Your delusional.
S-s-s-s-sauce?
>He was a glitch from the 2d sonics that faggots begged the devs to make into a real character.

Shadow is a meme near and dear to my heart.
Given that he probably got that from Game Theorists or some shit, without a doubt.
Do you believe in true love, Sup Forums?
Who draws this shit?
People with soul, user.

Dante please
Shadow was created after the mural in Sonic & Knuckles (Hidden Palace), which is a prophecy of Sonic fighting Perfect Chaos in Sonic Adventure 1. Hence the similarity in shape to Super Sonic's quills.
Shadow was created for Shrek.
This is headcanon.
...
I PROMISE YOU
It's head canon that made sense before Shadow the Hedgehog.
He's probably thinking of Scourge from the comics, who actually was based on a graphical glitch. He was never in games though.
It's been too long since I've talked about Sonic stuff, I forgot that people think the comics' and games' plots have anything to do with each other at all outside of the comics using the characters and settings from the games.
reminder that Scourge's super form is purple, like someone we all know
How is this headcanon? I'm pretty sure this was the accepted consensus until Shadow the Hedgehog happened. Especially considering Gerald Robotnik was fucking with the chaos emeralds/ancient civilization/master emerald in Sonic Adventure 2.
I never saw Trent Reznor in the dislikes.
>accepted consensus
That doesn't mean shit. Just because it makes sense and is popular among fans doesn't mean it's canon.
I mean, I want it to be true, but it's not and never was. It's really fucking annoying when people act like their headcanon is canon.
You keep saying "headcanon". I just played the fucking game and am telling you what I saw. Gerald fucking Robotnik even had a hand in Emerl being unearthed in Sonic Battle, it's not my fault they retconned it later in Shadow the Hedgehog with that Black Doom shit, which still doesn't mean the mural shit is untrue.
That's like saying any thought you could possibly have about Dark Souls is your "headcanon" because the devs never wrote it down. Calm down, mate.
Shadow is bad ass.
I don't understand the hate. I wish he was in Sonic Mania but the devs hate everything not Genesis or Sega CD. I can't stand people like that. Keep and innovate the old gameplay, sure but Sonic could be so much more.
It's not like Iizuka is ever going to revisit Shadow's backstory and contradict it.
He would have stood out in Mania. They should just have two ongoing series. 2D Classic games and 3D Modern games.
>not genesis or sega cd
but they put Fang, Bean and Bark as cameos
You're mixing him up with Ashura
He actually does have an absurdly large following of edgy preteens, even to this day.
Fair or not, Shadow was basically the second face of the franchise during its absolute lowest period of Sonic Heroes > Shadow > Sonic 06. He also started the trend of Deviantart-tier Sonic recolours. His in-game story arc is also incredibly poorly handled; he dies at the end of Adventure 2, gets resurrected for no reason other than being popular but with a whole new "Am I the real Shadow?" mystery, which is ultimately the driving force for the entirety of his own game but is only actually resolved in a throw-away line of background chatter that occurs so far into the final Super fight that you actually have to intentionally stall the boss out for far, far longer than it would ever actually take to beat it just to hear the line.
Shadow the Hedgehog the game was also the series' most obvious misstep. As bad as Sonic 06 was, it wasn't also bad conceptually. Shadow the Hedgehog is even bad conceptually. Sonic, but with guns and vehicles and "swearing"? It's fucking retarded.
There's nothing inherently wrong with Shadow the character but he doesn't really add anything anymore, either. Metal Sonic is infinitely more interesting as a rival/antagonist. Heroes wouldn't have been as shit as it was if they'd used Metal properly.
>he thinks Heroes is part of the dark age
i fucking forgot about this hahaha can you imagine being fucking powerman 5000 and agreeing to write THIS song about a fucking hedgehog hahaha
Classic isn't destined to be 2D and Modern is not always 3D. I swear even mainstream reviewers confuse this a lot.
The mural very clearly depicts Super Sonic fighting Eggman in the Doomsday Zone boss, not Perfect Chaos. You're right though, this mural is what Shadow was based on.
>It feels like he's a scapegoat for the entirety of Sonic's shitty era.
well he's definitely representative of it
Shadow's actually a pretty great and likable character generally outside of that one shit 2005 game. He's a good straight man and counterpart to sonic and his smugness really paints him as a good rival in his sheer contrast to sonic's casualness. His friendship dynamic with rouge and omega is also weirdly heartwarming and funny.
A good character that gets far too much shit.
in what universe is some random scene detail in Sonic and Knuckles supposed to be Shadow
he didn't exist for like 8 fucking years after that and his design is hardly anything original when it's fucking Sonic with slightly different spikes, red/black color scheme, and hoverskates
this is legit schizophrenia-tier shit
Heroes controlled like fucking ass, every stage was a rollercoaster suspended above a bottomless pit, the team mechanic was fucking terrible and relegated to "Use Speed here! Use Fly here! Use Power here!" rather than allowing for actual exploration, it introduced health bars for normal enemies, the voice acting was bad, the story was criminally bad (how could they use Metal Sonic so inappropriately?), and worst of all you had to play it FOUR FUCKING TIMES just to get the real ending. Sonic Heroes was terrible and you're just flat-out wrong if you think otherwise.
I honestly don't find Metal Sonic that captivating compared to Shadow who has basically evolved to being the exact equal and opposite to sonic in his way of working. Sonic basically just does what he wants and helps save the day when he's around; shadow outright works for the government on missions to investigate and solve issues with rouge and omega as backup.
It honestly sets up a greater sense of scale that's fairly interesting to think about and provides a lot of opportunity for logical expansion in the sonic series narratively and gameplay-wise.
It's ill advised because its half the story, but you can still enjoy it
But Heroes is fun when you get good at the game. The combat and level design is the best part about the game too. How can you not love Hang Castle?
It's so dumb when people ask why Sonic or Shadow would ever drive a vehicle. It's dumb as a game mechanic most of the time, except in the case of Sonic Riders where the game centered around it, but as an idea it's just like if a person enjoyed maintaining and driving motorcycles or whatever. I like this comic panel just because it shows that the characters have hobbies outside of running fast. Maybe I should read the Sonic comics.
i think it's neat shadow is employed
Shadow the Hedeghog (the game) was a thing. It was his game. So yes.
And this is someone that otherwise liked him in Adventure 2 and Sonic Battle on the GBA. He sure was shit in Heroes, though.
Sonic and Knuckles' Hidden Palace Zone contains an obvious, detailed mural of Super Sonic fighting Eggman in that game's final boss.
We know for a fact that Gerard Robotnik was digging around in that same area researching the Chaos/Master Emeralds, hence why the ARK is filled with Chaos monsters and contains a Master Emerald shrine. We also know that he changed his design from the prototype, a giant lizard, to a small hedgehog. Shadow also just happens to look more like Super Sonic (ie. upward curved spikes) than he does regular Sonic.
S&K might have happened long before SA2 but that doesn't mean they couldn't take that old detail and turn it into the basis for the relatively lore-heavy Adventure games. It's really not a stretch at all.
Shadows own game wasnt even so fucking abysmal and its no worse than the storybook games, Free Riders, or Heroes
Can we all just agree that no matter how bad a Sonic game made by Sega is, it will always have a good soundtrack?
Yeah, that reminds how Marvel made the Red Hulk use firearms just because he is from the military.
Boom had a shit soundtrack tho
