How much RAM do you have in your gaymen machine and why is it less than 8GB?

I think i got 500 but I used a lot up for games

I dunno man, like 2 or 3

>not storing your most played games on a RAMdisk

My Alienware :-)

I don't know what brand the monitor is, but they overclocked it for more power

£2,349

only poor brazil favela shit monkeys use amd or have less than 6gb ram YOU ARE HOKDING BACK GAMING FOLK

My Dad just told me the video graphics have 8GB each, the RAM graphics have another 32GB.

No SSD?

>having less than 64gb
>not loading all your games fully into RAM
lmaoing @ u slow plebs

How much RAM should I download?

I have 40GBs of mods for xcom 2, and 2/3 that for fallout 4. At this point, having 16gb is necessary to make load times involving custom assets not hell.

I hope you got a lot of cold cathode LEDs in that thing senpai wouldn't want it burning the house down

>My Alienware
>Buying prebuilt

Not sure if underrated or actually retarded

16G
os: windows embedded 7

Depends how much I can ram up my ass.

Is an i5-3470 & 8GB of ram god enough for indieshit and 3D hentai games? Integrated graphics now, maybe a dedicated GPU down the road if everything else is on par.

You're gonna need at least an i7 and 16gb of ram to load even the least demanding indie game and you can just forget about 3D hentai games if you don't got a supercomputer desu

8 should be minimum for gaming
16 should be the minimum if you're doing any sort of video editing or 3d modeling

>he fell for the alienware meme
plus enjoy that non-SSD, no amount of space will help those load times out.

i don't know man, my 2008 laptop with 3GB of ram & a Core 2 Duo can run 3D hentai games at ~540p in buttery smooth 5fps. I would imagine the i5 is quite the improvement. I know Sup Forums has high standards because they can afford expensive tech and anything below 1080p+60fps is unplayable but I can live with 20fps.

8GB is just not enough anymore. Even with an 8GB page file I still get low memory errors.

I have 16 GiB and I still feel like I need more. Only ddr3 though.

"I don't know what brand the monitor is but they overclocked it for more power" wasn't blatant enough for you, eh?

But you can overclock monitors

I have the top 32GB plan from downloadmoreram.com

8 GB in my desktop
16 GB in my laptop

32gbs of rgb ram

How?

I have 32GB because of video editing projects I was doing for school.

16GB

I've got 16 and never utilize more than 6gb at a time. Sometimes I wonder if 8 would have been enough.

I have 16gb. I would like to have 64gb or 128gb so I can make a RAMdisk and run games from it, then not have to have loading screens ever. But RAM is expensive now, so oh well.

by giving it more power

...

24GB

...

32gb because it was cheap as shit at the time I bought and I actually use it so what gives?

video editing, 3d modeling, etc. are all perfectly valid reasons for owning >16GB RAM

However, if you bought >16GB for just vidya games, you are a rube

By increasing the hz above what it's supposed to do. A lot of 60hz monitors can at least go to 70, some can even go to 75.

8GB isn't really enough for a lot of games these days. Total Warhammer for example will eat through 8GB like it was a snack.

12gb

8gb, would have bought another 8 a long time ago but my cpu cooler blocks the closes slot, and I think its retarded that I would have to spend double that on a 16gb pair when my 8gb sticks are still in perfect condition. Planning on a new build late this year/early next year so whatever.

>18GB translates to greater than 18GB

You'll need a dedicated GPU for the 3D hentai games, but those two are fine once you get it.

I have 32 GB of RAM. I keep seeing someone saying they load their games onto it. Wtf does that even mean?

How so? What kind of resources would a game use that makes it more ram intensive?

He's fucking with you

When are SSDs going to become more reasonably priced?

>get 16GB of ram
>get a 8TB WD Red drive for backing up gigantic anime BD rips
>1070 for playing games without worry @1080p

It feels so good

24gb

Enjoying your house fire?

I have no idea if I'm in a troll thread or not but this thing's pretty comfy. It's small as fuck but it's upgradeable and I got it for a bargain.

There was a website error on what I remember might've been a Dell website but anyway, they sold some 200GB+ SDD's for $20 each iirc. Lasted for one night and the company honored the sales even though it was a mistake

>760 2Gb
>i5 4430
>6GB ram
The funny thing is, that except for Nier Automata I feel no need for upgrading, that's pretty sad

>Lasted for one night and the company honored the sales even though it was a mistake
no they didn't they jewed me

source link pls

Damn, that's awesome.

16gb is the standard and minimum today, soon it will be 24-32gb for a few years. 8gb only scrapes by just barely. Only retards that aren't good with money get 64gb and up if they don't actively do high resolution graphics/video editing work on their system because then it's kinda stupid not to get at least 64gb in 2017.

16

I have 16 and it's probably overkill. I keep getting the urge to upgrade to 32 but I have zero reason to do it.

6GB is enough for most games today.

A big exception is Playerunknown's Battlegrounds. With 6GB the game was really stuttery and I had to restart the game after every round.
With 8GB the stutters were mostly gone but I still had to restart after every round.
Only after upgrading to 16GB I could play perfectly.

16GB 3200 DDR4 memory. I got it last September for 84.99 when people said "ram is dirt cheap" others said I was getting ripped off. Same ram is now 164.99. Fucking Koreans.

>being one of the unfortunate ones
Should have been faster my man

No game would require more than 8, but i use 32 because i like having a shit ton to throw around for whatever else i might be doing

I used to think 8GB and 2500K was enough for any game, but Witcher 3 uses 100% of both on low settings. I want to upgrade and I have the money, but I can't justify it for a single game.

It's easy to tell what the minimum RAM you should have is for a modern gaymen capable PC, you just have to match the RAM the consoles have, PS4 and Xbone have 8gb of RAM so there you go.

Huh. I've got 8GB and a 2500K right now but I've not tried TW3 yet. How did it respond to overclocking?

I've had 8GB for 6 years

ramadan is over

>I used to think 8GB and 2500K was enough for any game, but Witcher 3 uses 100% of both on low settings.

W3 runs fine with 8gb RAM and an i5-2500k when paired with a GPU like a 1060 or rx 480. You can run it at 50-60fps on high settings.

GHjAdOPXbt0

cause I'm poor
thanks for asking

Had to upgrade from 8gb to 16gb because my games would become all stuttery as a result of running out of ram or going over that 70% utilization threshold. It's made my pc snappy as hell. Would definitely recommend 16gb.

512mb but I use windows xp and only play older games so it works

What's the different between those standard 2.5" SSDs and those weird M.2 cards currently? I know the M.2 ones are supposed to be the future but is that more conceptual or real world right now?

I'm not even sure if my motherboard has a slot for a M.2 card since I think those are new and I bought it in 2011.

I never tried overclocking.

I have a 2GB 960.

M.2 are faster than SSDs and slower than RAM. They have much much worse price than SSDs.

Just get an SSD. If you really want loading times to go away entirely, buy 64gb of RAM and make a RAMdisk, run your games from that.

...

Well a 960 is much less powerful than a 1060 / 970. You'd have to go to medium / low settings to get around 50-60fps, or just bump everything up to medium / high and cap to 30fps with motion blur.

The difference is negligible unless you're transferring hundreds of GBs at a time. Save yourself some money and just get a regular SSD.

You didn't even list the ram.

You basically partition off the RAM as a storage device and save games directly on the RAM sticks.

Not recommended, although it makes loading it extremely fast.

>>I don't know what brand the monitor is, but they overclocked it for more power

You can overclock monitors, FYI. A 144hz monitor can be overclocked with a special PCB to 240hz. 240hz monitors can similarly be overclocked to 400+

Grave's disease.

amazing, isn't it?

My gayman desktop has 16GB of system memory and 8GB of video memory. My laptop has 16GB of system memory and 2GB of video memory.

>If you want loading times to go away, get a RAMdisk
That's pretty retarded considering the price difference, a large SSD (500~GB) in M.2 form factor is around $150, which is only around $50 higher for speeds much higher, as opposed to RAMdisks which cap out at 128GB and cost shit tons in comparison for almost no space to work with, and you have to wait for data to be moved around on shutdown and boot to even use one in the first place.

M.2 is basically just getting rid of the 600MB/s cap on SATA 3 that limits current normal SATA SSDs. The costs aren't that much higher for comparable drives, and the difference is pretty noticeable, as someone who has a 1TB M.2 and a 1TB SATA SSD, I did testing between the two and there's an appreciable, noticeable difference, especially in multiplayer games with large filesizes like Battlefield or Rainbow Six Siege.

>muh bought prebuilt!
I know your type. If you can tell me this in person while looking me in the eyes, not stuttering or voice quivering. I'll never do it again.

Oh, I thought M.2 was that new Intel Optane thing that costs hundreds for 16gb yet is slower than RAM

Memory with 12 gigabytes of ram power

I googled it. What a goldmine for reaction images

>i7 7700k delidded 5Ghz
>GTX 1080 Ti 2.1Ghz core/12Ghz VRAM
>32GB DDR4 3.2Ghz
>ancient Samsung 830 256GB SSD
>Western Digital Caviar Black 5TB 7200RPM

I'm calling it now. This will be faster than "next gen" consoles when they launch.

It means your friend is going to burn his RAM out in a few weeks and cry that they were defective.

>and you have to wait for data to be moved around on shutdown and boot to even use one in the first place.

Good RAMdisk software like Primo Ramdisk only writes to image the specific data which has changed, it doesn't rewrite the entire disk image. And obviously moving data into RAM takes no time at all. So shutdown/startup aren't affected at all.

>16GB of ram
>1GHz cpu

The cpu is locked into the motherboard, and I must chose between work or end the university.

That image is a guy very clearly trolling, you should be ashamed for saving it.

End the university. End them all, Johnny.

Technically, Optane goes in the same slot I think? But it uses 3D Xpoint memory, which is much closer to RAM in terms of speed but also a bit more expensive than a normal M.2 SSD and has limited use, as you can't use it as a storage drive, it just accelerates the system by caching files automatically. It's basically just a bandaid for HDD only systems, but even that is pretty pointless since the cost for one makes it pointless, and getting an SSD+HDD just makes infinitely more sense.

It's still severely inferior to a simply going with a fast storage solution like an M.2 or PCI-E SSD thanks to the significantly lower cost and no extra software to work with. I'm glad software has gotten better for RAMdisk support, but it really doesn't make sense to use right now for anyone who's on this board

>tfw ram prices are too fucking high to switch to a higher speed

M.2 is a form factor for storage that uses pcie lanes instead of sata bandwidth
