What's the consensus here?
Of all the kickstarter era RPGs this series is the only one I've liked/keep coming back to. I hope they pump out a few more games before they lose the magic.

They're making a mech game lately.
Also, Glory is my waifu.
Shadowrun is pretty great. Just finished up with Returns after hearing so many people insist it was shit compared to the other two, but I didn't think it was so bad at all.
Would probably be 1000x more successful even they threw in some half-assed romances
Glorified visual novel with some basic SRPG combat.
Not bad, but not great either.
That's what all CRPGs are though
>That's what all CRPGs are though
No, they actually allow for some roleplaying. These Shadowrun games don't. Heck it doesn't even have stealth or detection checks.
>No, they actually allow for some roleplaying. These Shadowrun games don't.
You're retarded user.
They're by no means perfect but hardly some kind of linear VN.
>They're by no means perfect but hardly some kind of linear VN.
There's so little roleplaying while being so linear that they can't even really be considered RPGs. You're basically just along for the ride.
>There's so little roleplaying
You keep saying this without defining what "role-playing" is?
If you just mean larping I'd say, although by no means perfect, the dialogue options allow you to play a variety of different runners.
I mean it's not a BAD game, but you can tell that it was they were cutting their teeth on it. Dragonfall and Hong Kong were far improved in comparison.
Gobbet > Eiger > Is0bel > Glory
Dragonfall>Hong Kong>Returns
Though I like the Hong Kong setting more than Berlin.
Returns is okay
Dragonfall is amazing
Hong Kong is still amazing but Dragonfall has far better story and characters, even if cyberpunk Hong Kong is a far better setting.
Only got around 8 hours into Returns before I kinda lost interest, since Dead Mans Switch was kinda lacking in the character interaction department.
Really enjoyed Dragonfall Director's Cut and Hong Kong, though. I liked the Berlin team and most of the Hong Kong crew. Sure helped that the writing was pretty good and there was no voice acting to fuck it up.
Combat was okay and got better with every game, but everything cyberspace related can go fuck itself. Especially in Hong Kong.
All in all, wouldn't mind seeing a fourth game in the future.
How are the custom maps? I thought the point of Dead Man's Switch was to be a demo campaign of things you can do with the engine so you can make your own campaigns.
>Tfw all the tabletop RPG groups I know just wants to play D&D instead of Shadowrun
I love D&D but holy crap I just want to try a game of Shadowrun
Liked Returns, loved Hong Kong.
I heard Drahonfall is the best in the series, but glory's boss battle pissed me off so much that I dropped the game immediately after finishing her mission.
I hope they make another game after the one they're working on right now fails. I also hope they improve the infiltration gameplay because thus far they all play exactly the same regardless of your party composition: go through the front door, pass some speech checks, occasionally hack some terminals, kill goons. Or just skip the first two parts and go straight to killing goons
Shadowrun Returns was pretty disappointing, but thankfully it didn't kill off Harebrained. Dragonfall is actually damn good, but I wish there were more options when you talk to Eiger besides
>hugbox
>be a bitch
Hong Kong is somewhere in between. The plot isn't as good, but the atmosphere is better than ever. Unfortunately, most of the characters faces in the game are based off of backers and look like total dogshit.
As much as I like having a dedicated party, there's no fucking point to picking anyone outside of them. Why even list all these runners I have to pay for when I can get one of each class for free?
Racter>Dietrich>Lucky Strike>>>>everyone else
>tfw everyone I know just wants to run Pathfinder and refuses to even look at a Cyberpunk or Shadowrun Rulebook.
Fucking normies, I swear.
Gaichu > everyone else
I can see you're a man of good taste, but personally I'd put Eiger over Gobbet simply because Gobbet has disgusting personal hygiene. I get that's a turn-on for some people, but it doesn't work for me.
>Implying it isn't
Racter = Gaichu > Everyone else >>>>> Duncan >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Is0bel
find a better team of players
Gaichu would be perfect if he weren't a ghoul
Gobbet has a really cute personality, but goddamn bitch needs a bar of soap or something.
No, Returns is a great game. When it came out, a lot of people had it as a 10/10 because there really wasn't much to compare it to. Then Dragonfall and Hong Kong came out and make Returns look just... awful in comparison.
Oh right, Duncan.. Considering he's your brother, he sure is the most forgettable character in Hong Kong.
wtf with the game's obsession with Duncan's teeth btw? After a second or third time they get mentioned i was pretty sure that either you would be able to fuck him, or he'd be badly beaten up and lose them
I played Returns for the first time and I have to echo the sentimentality that whilst it was cool since it was the Shadowrun setting, the final level was ass since you had to use the bugspray against the scientologists.
Izzy is legit qt. Just isn't popular because she doesn't throw herself at the players feet like a bioware character
>Dragonfall > Hong Kong > Returns
It lacks in the writing department, needs more dark themes being cyberpunk.
>Final level
>take the Tir Tairngre Elf and Jester
>Super Spec ops highly trained and disciplined Elf has trouble hitting targets some street trash self-taught runner has no problem nailing
What the fuck?
I roleplayed through my Shadowrun game.
>socialite Elf Mage
>didn't donate shit to the gibsmedat Ork and Troll shelter
>no scruples whatsoever, worked for the Lodge, followed through on morally bankrupt jobs, no questions asked, talked his way out of 99% of fights
>picked the option where he and Monica were lovers and destroyed APEX as a result purely for the disrespect of using her face
>took the job offer at the end
Dragonfall is the best. Hong Kong is my favorite. But thats probably because I've always loved Hong Kong in the shadowrun world the most out of all the other cities.
Hong Kong> New Orleans > Denver > Chicago
Female Dwarves aren't ever going to be popular. Somali African Female Dwarves ESPECIALLY aren't going to be popular. Somali African Female Dwarf Deckers with massive egos? That's a recipe for a character no one likes.
>taking up a dragon on his job offer
So your unscrupulous socialiate elf mage was also retarded? interesting character concept user.
I just wish the combat system wasn't 'xcom lite'
At least he didn't invite the cosmic horrors into our world.
Writing is hit or miss. Everything else about the games is pretty much somewhere between mediocre and decent. I enjoy them, but there are better kickstarter era RPGs like Underrail and Banner Saga.
>rejecting a dragon is the better choice
who's the real retard here
The fact that the "somali dwarf hacker chick" didn't make me cringe is a testament to the character
The moment a dragon takes notice of you, you're fucked since you're part of their plan. You may as well ride it out to the end and get some perks anyway.
>fell for the 'never deal with a dragon meme'
Nah, he just had the benefit of me already knowing that NOT taking the job fucks your character. If you stick with the role as Monica's replacement and Free State champion, your ass is grass because Lofwyr torches the Free State.
Be on the winning side for once, user.
Man that ending was a real fucking kick in the teeth. But I enjoyed it for the earthdawn connection.
>Banner Saga.
Too miserable imo. Good game but it is draining to play.
SR manages to seamlessly jump back and forth between stupid over the top nonsense and genuinely serious.
>didn't pay attention to the fact that he was working for Lofwyr since the beginning
Damn son, the guy actually spelled it out for you.
Hey, part of the Flux State still exists. There's just a wall around it now.
Just like the good ol' times.
So uhh...Does Glory have a metal vag now too?
i wonder what her chrome smells like haha
Good. Commies deserve to be walled off from the rest of polite society.
>Banner Saga
the banner saga, while amazing and literally goat is a completely different genre though
>SR manages to seamlessly jump back and forth between stupid over the top nonsense and genuinely serious.
I think the word you are looking for is campy. Shadowrun is a very campy game.
>completely different genre though
What? No. They are both WRPGs. Maybe different subgenres, but definitely the same genre.
You mixed your > with < there, lad.
>go play some Hong Kong
>get blindsided by Felicia Day cameo I forgot existed
New Vegas, Dragon Age, Shadowrun, why is she everywhere!?
I thought the PC games played it pretty straight compared to the tabletop game.
The guy that trusts the dragon, obviously.
The Hong Kong portraits were fucking nice
She is a goddess of nerds and has contributed a massive amount to nerd culture.
working for dragon =/= trusting dragon
The game already established that you were working for him all along. He just reveals himself as your employer at this point and gives you the option to continue being his unwitting dupe or actively being aware of your role.
Because she's hugely popular with normie """nerds""".
>not using custom anime portraits
Weak.
> It doesn't even have stealth or detection checks.
Just what do you call being able to use etiquettes to talk your way past people and stealing uniforms to blend in? Just because there's no visibility meter or whatever the fuck you think is necessary for stealth doesn't mean it's not in the game.
The ones that weren't obviously modeled after hamplanet kickstarter backers are fantastic.
what would sex with an oger be like?
My autism won't allow me to use custom portraits unless they fit the style of rest of the game. Maybe if I could summon up the effort to replace all portraits in the game I would enjoy playing like that, but I can't.
Using a player portrait that looks completely different from anything else in the game just takes me right out of it. It's on the same level as playing San Andreas as Miku, or Skyrim as Spider-man.
Is rolling high CHA considering cheating?
Seriously, you'll be able to talk your way out of a lot of shit in these games.
Dragonfall and Hong Kong are both good RPGs.
Broken pelvis.
Broken Pelvis/10
No, it's considered roleplaying. You want to play as a smooth talker and the game lets you do that.
And there's plenty of shit you can't talk your way out of, so it's not like you're just strolling through the game.
>Why even list all these runners I have to pay for when I can get one of each class for free?
They were backers that paid to be in the game. That's why they exist. Returns handled this the best given you had no team and had to hire them for support. They are useless in Dragonfall and mostly in HK with the exception of the bonus Shadows of HK campaign where you may need some hired runners depending on how you handled the end of the main campaign. Also, El Duce is actually better than Duncan in terms of being a rifleman. He has an Autoloader cyberarm and seems to be a better shot than Duncan with the Assault Panther Cannon.
I agree. After finishing Hong Kong I haven't been able to play as anime anymore. Nowdays I just find some good western stuff and edit them to look similar to the game art.
>not playing regalia
Is0bel a cute. No bully allowed.
Regalia is pretty good, but the writing is so goddamn bad.
I dropped it some time ago. Grew kinda bored. Can you fuck the qt sister?
>Is0bel
>small
>insecure
>autistic
>nerd
>mfw
how good is this game? I love me some good old strategy rpg.
is it FFT/Disgaea/tactics ogre good?
i usually hate this kind of "humor" writing, but i didn't hate this game for some reason.
nay
She paid at least $1,000 to be a runner NPC, that's why.
I hope they don't fuck up Pathfinder: Kingmaker
God damn it HBS make more Shadowrun. Everyone wants more, you want to do more, fuck Battletech.
HK's was just incredible all around. Definitely captured that cyberpunk Hong Kong feeling.
Eiger would probably be a faithful waifu once you crack her shell.
it's not a classic. i loved the combat, because i love tactical rpg. and it's a fairly long game, since dungeons can take some time and you get a lot of characters to get to know. but it's a little on the cringe side with the writing, i guess it could be one of those hate/love games. the voice overs were good though. i say try it out.
how you will react to the game depends largely on how many times you can handle a character calling you "big bro".
So what was that horrible and totally indescribable thing that isobel experienced? At first i thought she was gang raped and whored out and forced into kiddie porn by her parents, but apparently they were good people. so wtf? What a shitty character story
Also, is sociopathy preventing essence loss canon or is it something the developers came up with? It sounds pretty plausible, because that was my first thought when Racter said that there was a reason why him being half machine didn't affect him at all.
Wish I could have thrown that worthless nigger overboard
>When it came out, a lot of people had it as a 10/10 because there really wasn't much to compare it to.
Returns was a shit mobile-first game which didn't even allow you to save the game outside of few specific spots in the game when it was first released.
ALSO (i haven't confirmed this myself) but it's apparently scaled, so enemies scale with your level. this is not optimal of course, but i didn't know until i read up on the game after finishing, seems fairly well balanced.
They keep retweeting people asking for more Shadowrun on Twitter. They know the demand is there, they just want a better engine to work with because HK pushed it beyond its capabilities and it showed.
Someone once misgendered her
>lost my saves on df pc version
>see that there is an android one for an adequate price
>get it for on-the-go experience
>text is so small I can't see shit
JC, should've at least have some warning that it's geared towards tablets and not just phones.
"big bro"
Is there an option to have her say onichan? I could probably tolerate the jap cringe way more then I could tolerate hearing "big bro" over and over.
I hated hyperdimension Neptunia in english because of this one bitch that kept saying "wifey" in the most annoying voice possible. i get that was her thing...but fuck...
The main villain was also pretty spooky. I loved the idea behind a walled city that's so condensed with human filth it actually warps reality.
>5
ok, I kek'd
I'm willing to wait. no problem. The games are great, I just want more.
Cheating? Hell, it's necessary. You're automatically the face for the group. Any character you roll without a Charisma is just a Shadowrunner group that got gimped.
