Retards thinking the game requires skill

This, there's not much a skill curve

when it started taking and uploading screenshots of your entire desktop when it opens up

...

my mum caught me playing this game once and banned me from the family computer for 3 weeks except for homework, she said the background were porn it was just animes..

It no longer does that.

The fact it did that ever in the first place is enough reason for me to hate it, and I never even played it.

Still a good game imo

>i haven't played the game

>Combo-based scoring
>Spyware
>No anti-spamming mechanics
>Very loose hit windows
>Poor overall map quality
It's a shame really. Compared to most other rhythm games, it's very user friendly, and it even has MP.
Could have been one of the best games in the genre, if only they got their shit together and fixed the issues it has.

It's still fun to play it, but there really isn't much point in doing so, besides multiplayer, when much better games are available.

>literally cannot name another good rhythm game

Sure I can.
IIDX
LR2
O2Jam
Stepmania
KSM
SDVX
Plenty more out there as well, though I can only really name VSRGs off the top of my head.

sows is shit
corin is a faggot

The only big problem with osu is player base. 95% of the mapmakers have the worst taste in music, literally no variety.

I like it

everybody fucked their wrists up

There's enough of this shit in the jp general. Cut it out.

>combo based scoring
>nonsensical timing windows
>median age of the community is under 14
>entry level into rhythm games

BUT

>keeps people away from the real rhythm games community and keeps the bar for pigs high
Osu is basically a containment board for people we don't want in the community

Is there even any good rhythm games that aren't made by Bemani?
Outside of the single outlier by Andamiro, I can't think of a "real" rhythm game, a single one, that's not Bemani.
They have a totalitarian monopoly on an entire video game genre.

Do clones of Bemani games count?

What are the best Vertical Scrolling rhythm games with a good english community? Is there a Lunatic Rave equivlent in english? I know stepmania but that's only 4k.

No
But even if they did, the clones are usually worse since they have wonkier timing windows and a number of problems that come with being literally a chink product like LR2

ppv2 was a mistake, it killed mapping. The game is most accurately described as "aiming game with minor rhythm elements" these days. It's not impossible to find maps that don't play like they're auto-generated crap, but it's gotten harder.

>>Combo-based scoring
Never understood this complaint. If you miss, your score might as well be 0 in this game, completely worthless.

>>Very loose hit windows
This is not actually true, even OD8 (every map ever) is in line with most other rhythm games.

Beatmania
Pop'n Music
ITG2 (Pad)
SDVX
Anything Bemani, really

>Never understood this complaint.
Combo based scoring makes it so your score is just a representation of WHEN you messed up, by pure chance, instead of how much.
In every other rhythm game with EX-Scoring, the average skill level of a player will show at the end regardless of how it went specifically that time.

Meanwhile, in Osu! it's only a crapshoot of when you happened to miss a note. It's just a race for full combo, and then for minor accuracy adjustments.

Ive always been more into stepmania because of the technical consistency.
But I can never find good videogame or anime music packs so I always stop. dont want vocaloid shit

Is this real

>OD8 hit window is 40.5 ms
>Stepmania default judge is 26
>LR2 easy is 21 ms
>IIDX is 16.67 at 60 fps
In line my ass.

Yes, but it has allegedly been removed.

Combo based scoring is awful, most maps are badly mapped and the mapping guidelines are very counter-productive to the whole process. By forcing you to map in a particular way and disregarding everything that doesn't meet the requirements you defeat the whole purpose of having community made maps.

All the other game modes are also implemented in a very halfassed manner and Peppy refuses to listen to legitimate criticism and cries for improvements.

Yes, and it has allegedly been removed several times and each time mysteriously been reintroduced in new updates. It's a way to shut down people who cheat, by taking a screenie of your desktop and looking at all the processes running on your computer at the time.

You know I always considered getting into this game. But now fuck that shit. Off to flash flash revolution

>the average skill level of a player will show at the end regardless of how it went specifically that time
If you don't get an FC, look at accuracy and number of misses to determine how good the play was. If you get an FC, accuracy is all that matters. I agree that scoring is nowhere near optimal in osu!, but it's really not that big of deal. If you want to compete for pp or leaderboard spots, you need to get FCs anyways. Scores that are not FCs are pretty much worthless.

Hit windows for various rhythm games:

In comparison, osu! OD8 is +- 30ms, OD10 is +- 18ms.
Am I missing something?

Only redeeming quality is the multiplayer, that was pretty much my whole social life for a couple of years. I can't stand it these days, as to the quality of the actual gameplay I don't think you are missing out on much.

>OD8 is +- 30ms, OD10 is +- 18ms
Are those the windows for !standard or something?

>If you get an FC, accuracy is all that matters.
Not true, it is still biased because of the score multiplier. Getting a 200 early in the song and getting a 200 late in the song will impact your score differently. It simply does not make sense, it is illogical and flawed, and the only reason Peppy doesn't change it is because he is either a hack who is unable to put in the effort, doesn't care, or wants to stand apart from other rhythm games for no good reason.

Why combo based scoring is bad:

If IIDX worked like it does in Osu, a full combo with a C would be considered a better play than a AAA with a miss.

nothing, it's more popular than whatever niche game Sup Forums enjoys. That's where the hate comes from.

Only thing I dislike is the pp system. You should be able to get decent pp for good scores that you got like 1 miss or even a sliderbreak. We'd probably get better maps too if it wasn't like this instead of everyone farming the same maps for pp because there's no point my getting a good score on a hard map when it gives no pp.

Can't even remember what they changed when they last changed the pp system but it clearly needs another rework.

why the fuck didnt you mention djmax? huh? idiot.

It's populated mostly by underaged latin americans. The game is fun but has a ton of flaws that detract from enjoyment over time, but lets completely ignore that because lel it's popular.

>not Taiko
pleb opinion, dude

Because I don't like DJMax.
Music selection is mostly shit and >Combo based scoring

When they replaced the "sort by folder" option with "sort by collection". Most annoying shit they could have done.

>The game is most accurately described as "aiming game with minor rhythm elements" these days.
Is that why a lot of newer beatmaps feel like they belong in one of those dollar-bin reflex improvement games?
