What CD/DVD determines your monster?

Is this a Monster Rancher thread? Didn't one of the PS2 games have a feature where you would actually insert other games to load monsters from it?

It was the PS1 game that had that. I remember inserting a copy of Monsters Inc. thinking we would get a Suezo but instead all we got was a shitty Zuum.

That's pretty god damn innovative actually. I'd have loved something like that when I was a kid.

Also you both got 58. So that's transitivitet-dubs or something.

Now if it was released, it would be $9.99 for a monster pack.

>Puts in Kung Pow DVD

>innovation only exists to nickle and dime you

Can this industry just die already?

that's a pretty cool gimmick
how exactly did it determine the monster?

A few were pre-determined as promotions. Other than that, no idea

>Fused an Arrowhead with a Zuum
>Got a Crab Zuum

Best monster, even if it wasn't strong.

Not him, but if I were to guess, it probably reads the game's number, like Crash 2's SCUS-94154. The last three digits of 94154 was probably a lookup to a specific monster or something like that.

Which is the best Monster Rancher game to sink some time into? I remember playing the original and one on DS, but I feel like giving it a another swing

neat

The Maiden Rape Assault – Violent Semen Inferno

I loved this game back in the day. My rob zombie cd gave me this scary ass monster. Blew me away.

>Played this after getting into Pokemon
>Loved it
>Went through all the CDs in the house generating monsters
>Settled on a based green wolf
>Trained him hard, we blew through the ranks together
>Suddenly he starts losing matches, his stats seem to be decreasing
>Can't work out what's going on
>Wake up one day, go to the barn
>See this
Nothing was the same after that day.

It also works on movies and albums.

I think everyone experienced this first time. It made me stop playing for a while and ultimately start again later, this time realising that the game was about raising a new generation each time with the bonuses from previous generations.
What a cruel game, basically encouraging you to not get attached

Like 20 monsters total

Just that everything gets reskinned alot

Hmm, now assuming the result is replicateable between games and machines, I'd assume the game looks for metadata on the inserted disc, like tags for CDs or chapter labels for dvds, whatever it can find in the metadata section. Then scrambles them up and generates a number based on what values it finds. Take the three last digits and voila.

This might be something Sup Forums would be interested in because it's actually quite cool tech for its time.

PLAYED THE GAME LIKE AN ACE NOW WE'RE IN THIS PLACE TO SAVE THE MONSTERS FROM THE EVIL MOO

I'm going to assume you're under 20 or something, because this kind of thing had been going on before MR. This thing was the shit.

Similar to this

>Had a badass Hare that one shot everything
>Gets rekt in a class A tourney
>One week later he dies
>Save scum and preserve him in the freezer
RIP you bastard

All of the console ones had that feature, that was the draw of the series

That's not really what I ment though. Scanning a barcode and giving a result based on that is easy.

A game manages to cram a short algorithm into the PS1's memory while you change disc that's designed to scan and obtain SOME data from any game/album/movie is what's impressive.

Holy fuck, is that the game where you could literally scan any barcode for a monster? I remember playing something like this, I would go to the grocery store with my mom just to scan shit.

NOSTALGIA OVERLOAD

I remember it was difficult to get a monsters to rank A, let alone S when I was a kid. Some times later I tried to replay it but this time I was looking at breeding guide or something, turns out you need to use items to reduce stress/increase discipline so you won't waste your time resting. After I know that, beating white suezo/mocchi was a piece of cake even with basic pixie.

i love this series so much. i think i got the most enjoyment out of the ds version because i could just doodle penises and generate monsters from that.

you're probably thinking of Scannerz

Sounds about right

same, but i did not save after he died. bought a gameshark and gave my monster infinite gold fruits or whatever and made him live forever. i was that upset about it.

Suikoden II. Let's do this.
