Ask yourself, would it be better if we got a bunch of valve sfm cutscenes with randies, and instead of ingame dialouge characterizing the characters the gameplay was broken up by immersion breaking cutscenes?

It's like you haven't even played the game dude, there is a story in there. Next time you do a full playthrough read the text on the walls for background information, and listen to the character dialouge for the present day present time story narration.

Half life may not have a coherent story but left for dead 1 and 2 have a coherent story in both lore narrative and present day present time player involved narrative.
I hope the third left for dead game includes actual zombies alongside the infected, as in actual walking corpses and not mutated living people. They can only be killed with headshots and do a lot more damage, but move slowly.

Roof access for helicopter, defensible position, chokepoint, stairwell that you can shoot zombies in for ages before they get near you. There's not many better places to defend.
