So i got the Ace Attorney trilogy for 3ds and i was having a blast and ran through the first game in like 3-4 days.
Then i finish the game and i unlock the bonus "from ashes" case and it's so bad i've been taking a whole week to play it. What the fuck is this? Why is there a cowboy cop? Why is Officer Meekins draw in a completely different art style fromt the rest of the game? Why are people literally just saying to me " I know the answer but im not telling you" straight up for no apparent reason and phoenix doesn't ask why not?
I heard these games get more and more whimsical and out there after the first one but this case is so unbearable i wonder if 2 is even worth playing.
1-5 was written after the trilogy was done, so it's a bit different in a lot of aspects. AA2 has the strongest finale out of the trilogy.
Ryder King
Rise from the Ashes is one of the best cases in the series you disgusting pleb retard. Kys.
Angel Lewis
Rise from the Ashes is probably my favorite Phoenix Wright case
Austin Garcia
1-5 is a great case. You trying to find fault with everything even though AA series is purposely silly and anime doesn't mean shit.
Then again you'd fit right in with the rest of Sup Forums having a hateboner about every single case of the series. I'll be seeing your shitposting in AA threads from now on chump.
Anthony Thomas
Le funny cowboy man and le funny comedic relief police man haha.
Camden Davis
le epic reductionism that could be applied to every single character in the series haha XD
Daniel Brooks
its villain is amazing desu
Daniel Cooper
No because all the characters are just eccentric but within their professions. They dont have say, Mr White but for some reason haha he likes motorcycles and he's dressed like a biker.
Eli Hernandez
I dropped the game during that case as well It was shit beyond belief compared to the rest of them.
Angel Hill
>Mr White oh do you mean le arrogant rich dude haha?
Ayden Nguyen
Yeah, the rich dude he is used to getting away with things. Whats your point?
Gavin Russell
You clearly don't know shit about the series then.
Alexander Ross
No i don't beyond the first game and i wouldn't claim otherwise.
>" heard these games get more and more whimsical and out there after the first one"
Parker Morgan
hurr i'm a foreigner that's why i dress like some englishman from 1800s haha
Leo Walker
hurr I'm a le prisoner, look at my le prisoner outfit haha lel
Elijah Morales
>im a no-nonsense perfectionist with a superiority complex so i dress immaculately and aristocratically.
Are..are you sure *I* don't get the game?
Jace Bennett
hurr i'm a old woman that's why i dress liek an austranoaut lol lmao
Lucas Kelly
yes, he's a prisoner wearing a prisoner outfit because he is a prisoner.
He's not a prisoner wearing a army general outfit and talking like a bad movie impersonation.
What are you even trying to say here? The point is Marshall has no reason to be a cowboy.
Thomas Morgan
do it for Gant man
Nathan Gomez
First three cases from the next game are pretty mediocre too with the final case being fantastic. Then the third game is pretty great compared to the rest being consistently good.
Luke Johnson
Good point i have actually enjoyed Gant alot. He's probably the second best thing after more gumshoe.
Ayden Gomez
1-5 definetly feels misplaced in AA1, not because of its placement in the timeline - It's actually the single most logical place for it to be and helps set up AA2 - but rather it was written by Takumi post AA3 and this is reflected in its design and writing - It's a lot more complex than any other AA1 case by a far margin, but it also sticks out because AA1 is a nicely self-contained story with 1-4 being an outstanding climax to it all.
1-5 can't be the climax of AA1 because AA1 already had that in 1-4, but neither can 1-5 do too much because that might impede AA2.
It's still a solid case but I've never figured out why people suck its dick so much
Ryder Kelly
Rise from the ashes is one of the best chapters in the entire series fuck off user
Evan Jones
And he has no reason not to be one either. That's true for 100% of the character gimmicks. There's no reason for maya to be obsessed about burgers/ramen either. There's no reason for Edgeworth to be a secret fan of a kids show. There's no reason why Phoenix should style his hair this way. It's just part of their characterization. Period.
You're complaining about a man pretending to be a cowboy, after a case where you cross examined a parrot. Fuck you and your opinions.
Julian Richardson
Finished the first game last night and I agree with you. That case was just bad compared to the other four. Fun with reaction images though
Asher Ortiz
I honestly expected people to agree that this was a terrible case. It has nothing i enjoyed from the previous cases.
They were all so tightly written with no filler and fluff. Then i get to this one and im constantly just going "why aren't they just telling me what i want to know?". Like as far as i know the sushi lady is on my side now after the first day but she still wont just tell me about sl-9 or whatever even though we are working together now. Ema wont just tell me what happened, im sure theres a reason for it but after Edgeworth doing the same thing previously it's just annoying etc.
It all just feels like fluff.
Dominic Lopez
>I honestly expected people to agree Probably because you're a moron.
Brody Mitchell
Examining the parrot made sense though. Honestly can you just come up with one good counter argument other than "OH ITS ALL JUST SILLY NOTHING MADE LOGICAL SENSE". Because thats wrong.
Blake Jenkins
this
Dominic Watson
The case exists to showcase new gameplay element for AJ and introduce some characters for AJ (namely Ema). It was specifically made for the DS remakes for those reasons. Gant is also pretty good.
Julian Jones
Try finishing the case, the finale is the best part.
Parker Torres
>I honestly expected people to agree that this was a terrible case. It's considered one of the best, if not the best chapters in the entire saga.
Thomas Rogers
>no-nonsense perfectionist with a superiority complex >dress immaculately and aristocratically Dressing like an opera stage reject is """"""""immaculately and aristocratically""""""""
Really made me think.
Christopher Hall
Yeah apparently, i do like Gant though.
Parker Wood
>Mr White but for some reason haha he likes motorcycles and he's dressed like a biker.
That's Blaise, you moron.
Caleb Long
Bansai Ichiyanagi*.
Chase Ortiz
>Honestly can you just come up with one Or what? Are you gonna start crying bitch tears at me? Character quirks don't have to make sense and they never did before in the series.
If there's one thing that sucks about the case, then it's the fucking videotape. It suffers from the same problem like that tape in AJ 4-3 (or whatever the case with shark hair is), i.e. Let's watch it again.
Christopher Gray
Wow so future characters are so stupid that i managed to describe one without knowing about him.
Anthony Phillips
...
Isaac Bailey
is there a character who really likes cooking and he has a big moustache and a poofy chefs hat?
Jacob Cox
It will be revealed why they're withholding information from you.
John Lopez
If you're going that specific, this one. He's also gay.
Adrian Martin
This was the case that made AA click with me and go from being something I was lukewarm on to one of my favorite series. The build up is slow yes, and something I got frustrated with too, but the payoff is oh so worth it.
If it's any consolation it's by far the longest case in the original series so you won't have to put up with another one so slow for a long time.
Julian Reed
Rise from the Ashes is one of my favorites but I can admit the first day of investigating and the trial is pretty weak. Just stick with it and see if the pay off isn't completely worth dealing with Ms. Starr's shoddy testimony.
>it's so bad i've been taking a whole week to play it I remember having a terrible time with it the first time.
On replay only the first part was bad with the rest being pretty great.
It was a DS extra case made after the whole GBA trilogy was done.
>i wonder if 2 is even worth playing 2 is even more annoying and the low point of the trilogy.
Andrew Anderson
im sorry i made you so mad by criticising your favourite case.
Oliver Powell
Why so coy all of a sudden? Just 30 minutes earlier you were so brash and now you're acting like a little girl.
Look at this guy. He works at a noodle stand. His name is Eldoon (Noodle backwards ;^)) and his hair is literally noodles.
Jace Martinez
thats a good character. He works at a noodle stand so his design is noodle based. That's appropriate.
Nolan Morris
He sure is.
Aiden King
Marhshall works as a detective and he's cosplaying as a western sheriff though?
Aaron Flores
Is the trilogy on the 3DS okay to play or is there some "NOT FAITHFUL TRANSLATION !!1one" I just want to get everything on one cart preferably
Ayden Harris
those things have nothing in common
Lincoln Hughes
Well he's been a security guard for two years but what's your point?
Sebastian Gray
so did his brother
Anthony Hernandez
Sheriffs are the police of the old west. How is cosplaying as a cowboy out of place when you're literally the modern equivalent of it? It's not like he's cosplaying as clown or something.
David Williams
Its pretty much a carbon copy of the DS games, sprites are upscaled, some look better, some worse, nothing too bad.
Go for it.
Adam Adams
>law enforcer dresses as law enforcer >nothing in common
Nathan Roberts
It's almost as if he's still clinging to the past. It's also almost as if his design also reflects this. Really activates those almonds... You dumb niggers, I was making fun of OP by asking a retarded rhetorical question.
Gabriel Morales
They pretend the japanese elements were on America. It's a meme at this point.
Jaxson Lewis
Considering that From Ashes was written after 2 and 3 came out, I'd say your concern doesn't make much sense.
Josiah Sullivan
Because there would have to be something seriously wrong with someone to dress up and act "in character" as an old west sheriff to work everyday.
Again, that's not eccentric like dressing in French aristocratic fashion and being a bit stuffy, or wearing a gaudy pink suit. It's basically a only a mentally ill person would do that. It's grating and annoying.
If they had him dress like a stereotypical movie dick like gumshoe i wouldn't complain. Say whatever the fuck you want about other games but in the first game there is nothing else this wacky.
Levi Parker
>The Skye sisters are analogues of the Fey sisters, and Jake is to them an analogue of Godot. To distinguish him from Godot, he was given a cowboy persona.
>literally hes just a cowboy because we are reusing a character.
Camden Butler
>Say whatever the fuck you want about other games but in the first game there is nothing else this wacky. You're just clearly retarded.
Adam Torres
YOU CROSS EXAMINE A FUCKING PARROT YOU IDIOT
Colton Cox
not at argument.
Lucas Martinez
>cross examining a parrot >not wacky why are you trying to make Ace Attorney seem realistic and grounded when that is simply not the case?
Nathaniel Martinez
In the very first case you're examine someone who is called "Mr. Sahwit".
Yeah, totally not wacky.
Cooper Smith
BUT THAT MAKES SENSE!
Jacob Campbell
makes perfect logical sense in the story. You don't cross examine it, you heard it say something relevant to a case, then you bring it in court to try and get it to repeat the phrase.
You aren't literally communicating with a sentient parrot.
No it's not grounded or realistic but its logical.
Parker Howard
ONLY IN YOUR DISEASE RIDDEN MIND, BOY
Jordan Cooper
As somebody who played and enjoyed to varying degrees all of the games, his complaint about Marshall is perfectly reasonable and you're a retard. Also his gimmick is more grating than anything, and it gets old pretty much immediately besides not serving any purpose.
Aiden Davis
sounds great, I'll join you guys soon to insult your best girl pick
Robert Nguyen
>Phoenix Drive Will we ever get a sequel?
Alexander Lopez
It's not fucking logical because no real court would ever accept testimony from a fucking parrot, the game treats the whole situation as unbelievable and everybody is reacting like "Is this shit really happening right now?".
Chase Edwards
Who are you trying to fool.
Julian Hill
You Sup Forumsirgins will complain about anything.
Ayden Russell
how could you be so wrong. the actual credits scene is good, but the 2-4 sucks. second worst after 2-3 desu.
Levi Thomas
Logical doesn't mean realistic. It's logical within the game. Are you one of those people who just goes "OH IT'S FANTASY SO ANYTHING IS IN-LINE WITH THE TONE.".
Within the established world, and within the established world, that court would accept a parrot as evidence. There is nothing in the established tone of the game UP UNTIL THAT POINT that suggests there are wacky cowboy cop men walking around. Merely characters whose eccentricities are used to elevate their stock character nature. Everyone is a stereotype of their profession, not just a wacky version of their profession.
Ethan Sullivan
You already got proven wrong when somebody pointed out Von Karma.
Hudson Flores
nope. Im not repeating myself go look at the response.
Jaxson Rivera
I want a sequel in 7 years later.
Noah Evans
And you already got proven wrong on that one as well, but I won't post it, just scroll up.
Aiden Ross
if you were in the game you'd be a stereotypical faggot haha
Bentley Turner
1-5 is amazing, but i could see how it could be jarring if you didnt know that it was made for the rerelease.
i dont see how you dislike the characters though, and the actual mystery is one of the best.
aa2 is a necessary evil to experience the glory of aa3. the second case of aa2 is good, but the rest arent the best. every case of aa3 is a blast though. the third case is the weakest but its still pretty good.
Isaac Moore
It's generally agreed to be a great case, but you're right in the sense that it takes a while to get going.
You're absolutely right in noticing that it's different from the rest of the game, though. It was made after AA2 and 3 for the DS remake of AA1 to sell it better in Japan (originally these were GBA games). That's why it suddenly has the fingerprinting gimmicks and such.
Wyatt Reed
Von Karma is literally the type of character you're complaining about.
Levi Gray
nope. Im not repeating myself go look at the response.
Matthew Bell
>no real court would ever accept testimony from a fucking parrot
Tyler Sanchez
see Your response was nonsense, try again.
Eli Phillips
The only thing Von Karma is missing is a giant powdered wig.
Nicholas Russell
Its too long. Some fags will debate me on this, but honestly the pacing is off and it feels like it drags on forever
Aiden Sullivan
Most people will probably agree on that. Angel Starr in particular is a character that could just have been axed.
Ian Ortiz
that was a non-argument so i didn't bother replying. Yes, in a world of heightened reality, someone would go that far. That's the quintessential kind of clothing for that type of character. The only other way they could have gone is a top hat and monocle type thing.
Just like in real life a rich sadistic kind of guy like Mr.white wouldn't wear a gaudy pink suit, he'd wear whatever is currently high-fashion suit in GQ magazine, but in the games tone of "taking the stock character to their logical extremes" the pink suit and jewel encrusted rings make sense.
Detective stock character taken to his logical extreme is Gumshoe, not a fucking cowboy.
(you)
Alexander Powell
>america >real court
Christopher Fisher
>Within the established world, and within the established world, that court would accept a parrot as evidence. Why would they accept it though? Was it "established in the tone of the game" that a parrot can be cross-examined? Was it done before and its ok now?
So something needs to have a history of being done before to make sense to you, cowboy cops included but cross-examined parrots not included. This is some established autism alright.
Liam Barnes
Needs to be set after SoJ
Hudson Scott
2 is terrible, but a lot of fags on the internet think 2 has the best final case. (It doesnt.) 2 is the worst game in the franchise. It has some great concepts and some terrrrrrrrrrible execution. The franchise is worth playing, but again, 2 has a strong premise, but needed more than 90 days to be written.
