Just returned to Guild Wars 2 after about 5 years of not playing. Seems fun so far. Whatd I miss in my time away?
Also, do NOT go to the gw2 gerneal on /vg/ it's legit scary.

Sup op, drunk user here, all good? alright, just gonna start by saying that I can't even play games because my computer broke or something I don't know man shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit fuck ok ok just tell me this op, tell me this: why the general sucks?
je ne suis pas
It's almost impossible to talk about GW2 here unless you stay in the thread for a long time and wait for all the people that will come only to shit on it to go somewhere else.
If you bought PoF I guess you'll slowly be reintroduced to the game and all the new things
The first thing that you'll wish you had not missed will be the ability to glide, you need Heart of Thorns for that which in itself was quite a mediocre expansion.
From a new player trying to learn the ropes:
>Read up about the current state of your profession on metabattle and qtfy, this will help you choose skills and traits (which can be freely rearranged) and gear (which is expensive).
>Don't try to do the Heart of Thorns maps without at least exotic gear with a stat combo appropriate to your class. The enemies are way overtuned and can kill you in just a couple seconds.
>The HoT maps are extremely frustrating to navigate and you will need to grind masteries to fully explore them, which is very tedious. Focus on doing story missions and group events, especially each map's meta event.
>Do your dailies every day for an easy 2g, you will need it.
>The story is complete and utter nonsense, you will be surrounded by characters you don't know telling you to do things you don't understand because of events you did not witness. This is because you have to pay for the story, but only LS3 is worth it for including new maps. Just power through it and don't think too hard.
>This is probably the most Jewish game in existence, $10 just to change your name, $7 to expand your insanely limited bank, $13 for a glider skin, etc. Do not fall for the Jewish tricks. This game is free to play but not free to enjoy.
HoT did have the worst Maps. Fuck the Tangled Depths. Navigating is a massive headache if you don't have every little travel mastery unlocked. And you can only level up one mastery track at a time. Gliding is fun though, it's fun to see what vanilla areas are broken by the ability to negate falls damage.
>whatd I miss in my time away?
Living world season 1, 2, and 3
Heart of Thorns, which was okay
Elite specializations, which is the way for anet to force class into limited builds and kill the whole "play as you wish" idea
Good pve content, raids and fractals are top notch, just make sure to do it with a guild and no pugs
Kinda good pvp content, they're fixing the bad
>in coming
Path of fire expension, with new elite specialization that will provide a bit of fresh air into the game, still not convinced that this is a good concept but meh
Living world season 4 probably soon after the xpac release
Mounts, normies wanted em, they got'em
Good game overall, gw1 nostalgiafags are mad at it because it's not a copy of gw1, but if it were they'd whine because it'd be a copy of gw1
>Elite specializations, which is the way for anet to force class into limited builds and kill the whole "play as you wish" idea
This so much. I've never seen a community actively want their class to be unable to participate in certain types of content and be limited to just a few activities. Apparently making classes at least viable in all activities is "bad for the long-term health of the game." I can't imagine WoW players saying mages should not be playable in PvP or druids should not be allowed to raid, for instance.
The GW2 community is one of the most insane, defensive video game communities I've ever seen.
"normies"
...
>he plays this game for the story
>he plays this game for PvE
>tfw to intelligent two play a mode other than WvWvW
Spellbreaker will completely and utterly fuck up the big scale fights, I can already see the baby mode Guardian frontliners rerolling Spellbreaker.
>implying deadeye(s) camping far away won't shot his ass before he does anything
>why the general sucks?
there is 1 bot spamming it
Here's a question, what's the funnest profession?
>le xxxnoscopexxx
Anet called the profession "Deadeye" because when the enemy player says "Is he dead?" the answer is "aye".
the new meta will not involve any boons so spellbreaker will be made useless
way too many condis in this game now
Man, I was so excited for firebrand but the beta makes it look like shit. Who the fuck thought these tiny cones were a good idea?
Depends on your preference. I enjoy support herald the most but its far away from meta so I rarely get to play it.
>tangled depths
one of the worst maps in any videogame
Elementalist is pretty involved. You have 20 weapon abilities available to you, with it being divided into 5 abilities for each element. It takes a while to get used to switching element attunements mid fight, but mastering that and memorizing what the skills do will really open things up since swapping elements resets your ability cooldowns.
>people actually hated the HoT maps
What the fuck, they're great. Dragon's Stand was too simple but the rest were really nice. 100%ing the maps is the only reason I even bother having this shit game installed.
Elementalist, Engineer and maybe Revenant. The other professions just have too few skills. Elementalist is the only profession I managed to not drop.
They're even more annoying than the Maguuma Jungle from Gw1.
Jesus, I guess this is proof no matter how shit something is there will be someone to eat it up.
VB>AB>DS>>>>>>>>>>TD
TD is the worst because its very hard to take advantage of the verticality, and much of the map is just tunnels. Its headache inducing to try reading the mini map because it only covers 3 layers
The terrain was just over obstructive. Say that your objective is on the other side of a wall. In a HoT map, you need to go on a mile long journey through multiple enemy clusters to get there a half hour later. If you're I'm the Tangled Depths, now you have to worry about whether or not your on the right level to get where your going.
same with scourge and soulbeast here
necro, because it's the only one that makes allies rage and enemies love
How do I find a good guild? Can anyone recommend some?
HoT maps are fun if you aren't trying to rush map completion. Especially Tangled Depths, if you just slowly follow the event chains it becomes pretty darn fun running around in all the tunnels.
Auric Basin is my favourite though. Best BGM.
Whatever the guild with the lgbt tag is. Sounds like a great time since 90% of the playerbase reps it
A friend and I saw them hanging out or roleplaying or something by that one jumping puzzle with the geysers in Southsun Cove. We asked to join and then they stopped talking altogether and didn't say another word until we left.
join the spud club, kinda weird to join a youtube based community but they are hightly dedicated to the game and also all active members
You get gold so fast in this game that any gem purchases can be made easily by exchanging gold for gems.
Sell EVERYTHING that you get from events and just playing the game on the trading post and you'll be making at the very least ten gold a day from that, and that's before fractal dailies, which is another 20g.
Is the new expansion confirmed to have more content the two whole new maps was a big slap in the face.
Did engie ever end up getting good? I switched to guardian for fractles because it was just a better class.
>only want mounts to avoid combat speed
>only want lily of elon pass to avoid LETS PLAY INVESTIGATORS
Youre not even considering the most lucrative method of farming: unbound magic and winterberries for magic warped bundles. Just with 4 characters and less than an hour you can make anywhere between 10 and 40 gold. I shelled out 200 gold the other day for the last steps to build rodgort and ive already regained my losses
>fractal dailies
>20g
More like 10-15g. I make average 11g by doing t4+99cm every day. I guess it can reach 14g if you are lucky with exotics/materials.
Maybe a dumb question but how do I get the additional hairstyles and colors?
HoT or some pack in the store?
>Whatd I miss in my time away?
literally everything
join a guild and go with them on whatever they do to catch up on how the game works now
it's fun
also if you have an account from the original beta-era, you should receive a birthday gift for each of the last 5 years. 3/4/5 have very valuable items. You can't sell them, but they're nice to have and some you can't get anywhere else.
wait i thought fractals made you the most money in the game
Makeover kit has exclusive colors
>metabattle and qtfy
opinion disregarded
there is no fucking meta everything is viable the only difference is you need infusion slots for fractals, stop it with this stupid bullshit only 5% of the playerbase follows those idiots doing speedruns
You could try the old Sup Forums guilds , despite the state of the thread they're still around and manage to recruit through discord I've seen. I joined the NA one, and they're surprisingly helpful, it's a decent way to get back into the game, but consider joining other guilds when you're looking for organized things like WvW, 5 slots after all.
should i be selling my loot instead of salvaging everything
Why doesnt it just get banned, IPs aren't infinite.
Because /vg/ mods are spastic cunts who do it for free
seems to be
every thread has like 300 new IPs
Nah, just a daily good ammounts for decent fun
>best maps
>calls them the worst
What?
Why can't you fucking people fucking fight on the fucking nodes you god damn actual retards
FUN if you're EU.
This sums up my entire sPvP experience.
Nope, at time there's stuff that is worth more than their salvaged value but the rule of thumb is to salvage everything, especially while leveling since low level mats are worth more than the higher tier ones.
Fuck off to your discord if you can't use your general then. This shilling is reaching Hollow Knight levels.
mad cus bad
No.
>Fuck off to /vg/
>/vg/ is fucked because mods
>Fuck off to discord
>Discord is fucked because it's discord
>reeeee
It's what I do. I usually make about 12 gold from selling everything I get from World Bosses every day.
Great job Blizzard!
>Shilling is reaching Hollow Knight levels
2-3 FFXIV threads a day. WoW threads once a day or more. Gw2 Threads maybe once a day sometimes there is none.
Fuck off.
Just the way you type the post smells of a shill.
that's just your upper lip
How does one aquire end game gear?? Do I have to craft that shit?
wiki.guildwars2.com
Basically, craft armor and weapon (or do your specialization collection for the latter).
Amulet from laurels.
Rings from fractals (do your daily and recommended fractals, very quick to acquire)
Accessories from Guild Recommendations (find a guild and do your guild missions)
Backpiece from fractals or one of the many collections/achievements.
All trinkets can also be acquired from PvP and WvW, as well as LS3 maps grind.
You can buy it from the Trading Post (Auction House). Exotic (orange) gear is the standard endgame tier. Ascended (purple) gear is the next step up, but it's only about a 5% stat increase, you can't buy ascended gear from the Trading Post though.
Ascended you need 500 in the crafting discipline even if you wanna get the gear through PvP, WvW, or fractals. Else you have to get really lucky with drops.
Ascended accessories are a lot easier to get, especially with the LS s3 maps.
I haven't played for months so I totally have forgotten, but can you have others craft ascended for you? Or is it account/soul bound on acquire?
I have 500 on all crafts, so wouldn't mind helping some players if they have the mats
The armors and weapons are account bound but you can help them with the timegated daily mats.
The daily crafting stuff like Lumps of Mithrillium are daily and account bound but the stuff you turn them into like Deldrimor Steel Ingots can be bought and sold. Finished products like weapons and armor are also all account bound.
Thanks dudes, yeah forgot about that, I had to help a friend make spirit lumber (?) a while back.
Wish can help craft a complete set for others, but yeah at least can help with certain mats
>that /vg/ thread
What the fuck is happening over there?
The storytelling and presentation are fucking horrible. Exploring the world though and world completion are pretty fun. Doing it for the second time now.
I am a bit split about them getting rid of the "cutscenes", I was honestly impressed with their lipsyncing animations, especially with how they handled the Charr.
I'm not even sure if they still do it with the text bubbles we get now, but man, I loved seeing them in the beginning of the game
Some fag got salty over something, no one's really sure. They have spambots to copy posts from all over Sup Forums into the thread and auto sage everypost. They go through IPs like candy and bypass the Captcha with one of of those Indian Captcha solving services who will solve hundreds of them for a few dollars. There's no specific drama linked to it, so no one can guess who's doing it. Mods couldn't do shit if they tried.
Okay so there was a furry who would spam pictures of his in-game character which was a female charr
People got annoyed and told him to stop, so he spammed even more, to the point that every other post was him even if the thread was active
People told him to fuck off so he made a fucking spambot to ruin the general
I'm pretty sure it wasn't even his character
that's the reason he got kicked out of the /vg/ guilds, because he was starting to get real fucking weird to the person who's character that was
It was the bottom middle character if I remember correctly
Those are really the only good thing about the story.
Another thing is that even though it's called personal story, it turns out halfway through you aren't even the main character of your OWN personal story but this faggot.
>hated so much they killed him off after he failed one last time and got destiny's edge fucked up in the process
EAT SHIT, TRAHEARNE
It's incredible. A spambot service like that could destroy all of Sup Forums, and yet he chooses to ruin only one thread.
Weaponized Autism is a scary thing.
that's what scares me the most about that whole scenario.
the havoc and damage it could do would be devastating.
So he used his superpower for good and not evil.
Every single dialogue, story or not is lip-synched,
Even some transformations have mouth bones that react to dialogues for some reason.
streamable.com
All it's gonna take is for one furry autist to decide he doesn't like the thing you like. Nobody will speak out for you then.
>hated so much
So he wasn't liked by anyone? Good.
And I triggered that furry to start with the initial spam because I image capped 2 threads. It's my magnum opus of trolling.
That's awesome! I just wish we could see them better now in the latest stories...they really were some of the best synching I've seen in videogames.
Metabattle is an okay place to figure out a basic build, but you really shouldn't take anything they say there too seriously.
Outside of raids and super high-end fractals nothing in this game is remotely challenging enough to merit absolute minmaxing. Just have an idea of what type of damage you want to do (power vs condi) and make sure that's your primary stat. I've seen people hate on the dumbest shit in this game because of how they perceive "da meta."
There are some who were like "he's not that bad..." I think they're comparing him against Scarlett and well, it's a tough choice which is more awful.
Still hate how he hi-jacked our story, though. Pic related, spoilers for Stormblood.
Your character still has that lip synching tech. Just look at his mouth the next time he shouts URGE TO KILL RISING, or during living world story segments.
How do people even know what build you have? i only played unranked Conquest and there is no way of seeing.
I haven't played this game since 1 month after its initial release. Recently I actually dredged up my GW1 account and have been having some fun vanquishing.
Is there any reason I should try this game again?
Yeah I'm just glad it's not completely abandoned. Wish more games put thought into the synching animations like GW2 does
Saw it also applies it correctly to the different languages available (which reminds me, we never got the JP/Korean voice packs right?)
Spectators can click on your profession icon and it brings up your build and amulet/gear.
a game where anet just makes a bunch of skills and traits. just leaves it up to the community to decide what classes play in group content.
>Takes the role of the pact commander because the player character cannot be tied down in one place, nor are they impartial because they have already thrown their lot in with one of the orders
>Completes his Wyld Hunt with the player character's help, and it is only done because it is directly helpful in attaining the goal of stopping Zhaitan
>Doesn't even take part in the final confrontation with Zhaitan
>But he's completely the main character of the personal story because we helped him, fuck helping people!
I still think thief has the best implemented elite specs.
>vanilla thief is all stealth and single-target backstab damage
>daredevil is all group cleave and aoe
>deadeye is all stealth and single-target ranged damage from a mile away
>vanilla thief is fairly mobile
>daredevil is extremely mobile
>deadeye's primary weapon mechanic actively removes mobility
Thief's vanilla specs are also mostly good.
>critical strikes is damage out the ass
>trickery is extra initiative, plus damage buff per init spent
>shadow arts makes stealth significantly better
Like trickery and shadow arts will both be insanely good for deadeye, but I can't pick between stealth on mark, or steal boons on mark. Guess I'm gonna have to wait and see how hard pof mobs hit.
you mean guild wars
Those are completely valid, but still didn't warm up to him at all.
especially when our order mentors were so much more likable...which of course made what happens later hurt all the more. When Trahearne sacrificed himself while being assimilated all I could think of was "fucking finally".
Thanks but I'll take that over having the developer dictate how you're supposed to play your class to the point where your don't even get to pick your gear.
All classes are viable in the end.
ye, but it only does damage, damage and damage.... it changes playstyle sure but not purpose
