I imported it for Vita already so gonna pirate the PC version

What kind of girl is she? I hope she's not some tsundere cunt.

Since I already played it on the Vita like a year ago I'm gonna pirate the PC version to play the PS4 content.
Actually I don't know if the PC version has the PS4 content that released later. Does it?

No that's Laxia

PC version is just a port of the PS4 version so yes

That is the face of a man that just wants to go adventuring alone again.

Someone decided to break their NDA and stream the review copy it looks like

Yeah

Oath in Felghana > II & I > Origin > Ark of Napishtim >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rest of crappy AI-party + crappy camera Ys

Take it back. Seven Engine is pure

Seven still has good camera, and less of the pointless dialogue / quests nonsense, but the addition of party members started the downfall.

Yeah. Classic Adol looks cool and Dana seems neat as well but I don't really care for the other party members.

>Oath in Felghana > Origin

I disagree. They're close, though, so I can see why someone might have an opinion different from my own.

>II & I > Origin

Now you're just being silly.

>playing Celceta instead of Dawn of Ys
you've made a mistake

This but add Mask of the sun right before Napishtim

>You're gonna buy her game, right Sup Forums?

The only games I'm (probably) getting in September are
>knack 2
>ys 8
>dishonored
>divinity 2

Origin can fuck off with the grind.

>hurrr you do 1dmg because you're slightly underleveled EVEN THOUGH YOU SPENT TIME IN EVERY SINGLE AREA GETTING EXTRA XP

I could probably forgive the party system some if Dogi was playable in more then just 7, but he isn't.

This.

Ys is all about Adol wrecking everybody's shit alone,. Fuck those literal whos

Are you talking about killing monsters to power up the dark ring or whatever it was?
Because that was a bug

Isn't the party optional this time?

Yes, I'm going to buy Ricotta's game.

If it is then I'm going solo.

That doesn't make Bumper Cars acceptable.

Is she the only one that has porn so far? It pretty nice though.

gematsu.com/2017/02/ys-viii-ps4-details-hidden-elements-benefits-japanese-ps-vita-version-buyers
Eh, looks like you need to clear the game at least once to unlock it.

Yes and no. First you need to find the accessory which lets you play as solo anyone. Forgot when you get it but it wasn't that early. Second If you want optimal damage for one person you need to get 2 accessories which change your attack type. So you can have Slash + Pierce + Heavy. But you don't get those acc till end game.

Fuck. I suppose its nice to have the option though.

Ys is a shit JRPG series with a bad plot and Mary Sue MC. When is Falcom dropping it and focusing on exclusively making Trails games?

Play Post-Seven Ys if you want kiseki clone. Ys was great ARPG with focuse only on gameplay and pushing pointless dialogue and fetch quests out of the way.

You are a faggot and I hate all of you, and I want more Zweii!! and a Gurumin sequel.

I just picked up Origin, so no. I don't like Ys games with the party system, anyway.

Of course, i'm ready to play the true experience. Vita version was already the best Ys game unless you are a dumb neofag who plays on normal.

>using double exclamation marks in your posts
don't do that reddit

Please kill yourself.

i'm just fucking with you calm down

Of course. Both this and 7, seeing as I never beat it on the PSP.

I didn't mind party members because I'm not a fan of playing as one thing for 30 hours (especially when the dodging is always more fun than the attacking), but the fact that you couldn't solo in the last 2 games pissed me off and I'm glad they let you do so in this game.

I didn't like how the entirety of Celceta is "flash guard/dodge to win". Every boss plays out the same way instead of having unique patterns with unique solutions like the older games. Did 8 at least do something different? More bullet hell style dodging instead of invulnerability windows?

Also are the new content going to be available for all platforms? I'd love to play the COMPLETE game on a handheld, or at least PC if the Vita's getting cucked. But so far I heard it's all perks for PS4.

Yes. Playing II and then Dawn while I wait.

Built for sex.

Vita isn't getting the complete content. PC or PS4 if you want all the goods.

I've only played Oath in Felghana. Should I play any other games before this one?

Origin and Ark of Naphistim if you want something like Oath.

Seven and Celceta if you want to get familiar with VIII's gameplay.

Bumper Cars are fine too.

Thanks, user. I'll check them out.

So do you think we'll get more games with the Seven engine? The next game will probably be a remake of V considering how much they mention Xandria and that they bothered to give the Isis Blade an elaborate design, but in town on whether or not they should switch things up.

I actually really like the party system, but being solo again would be fun. Dana's half of the game definitely showed that a solo Seven Engine Ys could work.

Is the extra content actually worth the purchase? Tokyo Xanadu got extra content on PS4, and I've heard many claims that it's not that big a deal and still plays better on the Vita.

Srconding this question.. Moving the focus from pattern dodging was a great shame

I'll be getting it. I really wish the Vita version had the extra content though, it's not even like Tokyo Xanadu which I ended up picking up on Vita because I had nothing to play last month.

Yes, it's pretty substantial. Dana has an entirely new solo dungeon and Adol has some post-game dungeons.

Solo play for new game plus alone makes it worth it.

I see. I'll consider putting it on the wishlist, then.

Probably eventually. Finally played my first Ys game last night, that being the the Chronicles edition of the first one. It was fun. Think this play order's alright?

I & II > Origins > Oath in Felghana > Memories of Celceta > V > VI > VII > VIII? It'll probably be all over the place mechanics wise, that's what happens when you play remakes instead of the originals.

Don't play Celceta, play Dawn of Ys instead unless you've played Seven or VIII before it and decide you just REALLY like the party system

V isn't as exciting as the rest of the series so you'll probably regret playing in between the rest instead of saving it for when you're done with the good ones but hungry for more Ys

Origin and Oath you can do in either order, though most play Napishtim first because those two are the same system as and play much better than it so it wouldn't feel like you're going backwards

That said, you sound like a rare case who might actually enjoy all the styles of the games instead of complaining about them, so you should really just play whichever one you feel like without worrying about order and you'll probably get through them all eventually

I recommend going: I&II > Oath > Origin > Ark > Seven > Memories > Lacrimosa

Definitely save Ark until you've played Oath at least. It came out before it, but it's the culmination of a bunch of series lore so you need the Felghana background to some extent.

Yeah, especially since you seem content with mechanic jumping. Origins after Chronicles is good since you'll still have the continuity fresh in your mind.

>play Dawn of Ys
I'm still holding out for someone to upload a patched Dawn of Ys .bin.

theisozone.com/downloads/retro/tg-16/ys-iv--the-dawn-of-ys-turbo-cd-english-translated/

LOVE FALCOM

I made a torrent of it once upon a time

>Memories of Celceta > Ark of Napishtim
>party system above anything

lmao kys.

Celceta's not that bad. It's easily the worst of the Seven engine games, but it does a lot for Adol's character and has some great music.

I'll never understand Sup Forums's disdain for the party system.

Is that the fan dub or just the text translation? I have the latter.

You can already neuter the party members in Celceta and have them not attack anything. It's just a bit annoying to see them running around like chickens. I like the party system simply for the fact that they allow for different movesets
Flash mechanics and Items are the real shit killing Ys.

Ark is an experimental mess, however it's thanks to it that the GOAT that is Felghana was perfeced.

Oh it's not, it's fine and I actually enjoyed it a lot
But when someone's first getting into the series, Dawn would give the best impression among all versions of IV because it has fantastic bosses, good pacing, and somehow still the best music

Ideally any Ys fan should play Dawn, Mask, and Celceta and decide for themselves which they enjoy most
But in a hypothetical situation where you'd only get to play one of them, Dawn every time

I didn't check yet myself, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't the dub
If it isn't you can find it with a quick google anyway

>Flash mechanics and Items are the real shit killing Ys

This tbqh. Flash Guard is a cool mechanic but the timing is too lenient. They should tighten it, or make it like Alternative Saga so you can't just spam it. Items should just go and stay go.

I would not call Ark a mess, it's just bit more clunky and slow. It gets better the further you get in the game though.

Friendly reminder

>PC version it too buggy
>Vita version is too ugly
>PS4 version is just right

>Goldilocks and the Three Systems

Oath in Felghana > Memories of Celceta > II > Origin > Dawn of Ys > Seven > Mask of the Sun > 1 > Mask of the Sun > 5 > Wanderers from Ys

>knack 2
GAME OF DA YEAR BAYBEEEEEE!!!

I managed to find this: theisozone.com/downloads/retro/tg-16/ys-iv-the-dawn-of-ys-english-dubtext/

I'm going to test it out.

Why so high for Celceta?

Why Mask? It's objectively the worst of the three.

Absolute best setting, a rocky start gives way to phenomenal pacing and dungeon variety, party characters are all fun to play as (besides Duren), most of the Dawn music is disappointing but the new tracks are all among the series' best

Felghana is mechanically perfect but Celceta feels the most like what I think Ys should be, a tightly composed action RPG and a real sense of exploring a new land that feels believable and interesting

Yeah, that looks like it should work
If somehow it doesn't and all you need is the dub try this one next:
ysutopia.net/projects/ys4/
the download links there seem to be intact

It's not great by modern standards, but it had interesting ideas
The background in Iris Tower was hot shit in 1993, and I still think it's neat- there's also a part where Lilia dies and Adol carries her corpse while bumping monsters and a segment where Adol can turn into a Roo and talk to every monster in the game, whereas I'm pretty sure Celceta's Roo-mode only let you talk to other Roos (correct me if I'm wrong there)
It also follows Falcom's script most closely when they outsourced to multiple devs, hence why it was canon until Celceta came around, but for the most part it suffers from the same problem as V: It's not great, not awful, just "okay"

>most of the Dawn music is disappointing but the new tracks are all among the series' best
I'm sorry, user
I can't fathom what kind of upbringing you would have to have had to have developed an opinion like that

That's interesting. The setting is really nice. I think it's the pacing that ultimately hurts it for me, but I do enjoy the game for what it is. Especially Adol's memories. That was a great way at giving us some deeper insight into his character.

Nigga learn some reading comprehension I meant most of the Celceta versions of Dawn music are disappointing. Ancient Legend and Iris are phenomenal but hte rest are booty

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE NO MORE KINGDOM HEARTS YS GIBS SOLO ADOL ADVENTURES AGAIN REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Oh you're right, guess I'm retarded
What they did to General Leo's theme is unforgivable, but the Morning After the Storm and Gust of Wind are excellent, plus it was a nice surprise to have Iris back
I don't think that's quite enough to make up for removing A Great Ordeal and Bronze District though

>tfw Amazon screwed up the pricing and you got it for cheap

Those were a big loss, and Field was my favorite map theme in the series until Sunshine Coastline so I was really sad to see it go.

Seeking the Vanished Mask is probably my favorite though, it sounds the most like a brand new Dawn track which was amazing

I thought Ys was a RPG/shmup combo in 2D? What the fuck is this?

VIII is an amazing game. It really gives a good sense of adventure. Some things I wanted were more human bosses (There's only one) and letting you choose your weapons (Once you upgrade you can never go back). Flash Move needs fixing badly also. Heavily abusable.

VIII is Ys' first 3D title

welcome to 8 years ago

how does that even work?

Scratch that there's 2 human bosses. Forgot one is in a side quest

How does what work? Ys in 3D? Works pretty well

There are two actually. You fight one of the castaways for their final event.

how do you do a shmup in 3D, is it a trails clone now?

>more human bosses (There's only one)

I know exactly what you were thinking of when writing this
I, too, am excited to no end to see EOPs' reactions to this part

Everyone wants to hog on Adol's glory but he's too polite to tell them to fuck off.

I want to lick that tummy all over

>Gurumin sequel

Never.
Fucking.
Ever.

What is this I hear about the Vita version being incomplete?

I'm torn on this part.

On one hand, I would have loved if they kept the tension building and held off the reveal so you kept questioning who Nemo was.

On the other hand, that totally would have ruined Castaway Village's coziness for a while.

Kind of. Basically each player has a standard attack combo and skills. You can equip 4 skills at a time unlile Tales artes where you can usually have 8 or 16.

It's not incomplete, the PS4 version just has more content.

To be fair, though, it's A LOT more content. The vita version is 100% inferior.

Does the full game ease you into the combat better than the demo does? I recognized flashes of brilliance by the time I reached the boss and had a decent grasp on the game, but the controls are so complicated for an Ys game and I don't feel like having to manually rotate the camera meshed very well with the speed of the combat. I know that area is a little further into the game though, so I wonder if it might just be a bad choice for a demo dungeon

I-I played V
