Is this really all I have to do for my book to be made into a movie? Make a bunch of random references? Because that's all it is.
>omg we need the key, but in order to get it we have to play a perfect game a pacman guies!
>omg now we have to go to bladerunner world XD
Considering shit like twilight and 50 shades exists, yes.
>there was so much blood the floor was slippery like an ice level
>the mario special stages all had silly names like tubular, this one was just called suffering
>then my girlfriend started choking up this horrible pudding-like glob that reminded me of the yellow devil from megaman
Is this actual text from the book?
Batman v Superman made 800 million in the box office.
Mummy (2017) made 405 million.
Even the emoji movie made double it's budget in the box office.
If you want to make a movie, make one that's filled with references or for the Chinese.
>what is Sunless Sea
Now, if only the game itself was even remotely good...
thank god mods exists
They already do, but few of them are better than bottom of the barrel genre fiction.
That book is reddit tier shit and relies on it's premise and pop culture to remain interesting.
no because writing has to serve gameplay which always ends up with inconsistencies and silliness
>"i was framed for killing a man!"
>kill 100 000 thousand civilians in the game just because
I'm going to then.
I'm going to write a book full of extremely esoteric game and anime and movie references and have no real plot.
It'll probably be out sometime 202X so look out for it.
I'll give a shout out to Koolkid87 in the movie/book
It's text from creepypasta stories. But this book and shitty horror fanfiction suffer from the exact same kind of writing.
Even if it was, you would not notice it.
Good writing in books is providing a plethora of non-visual information that set the tone acccompaning the visual descriptions, feeding your imagination as much as possible while still providing enough concrete information that you have more to go with than "a house, y´know, with people inside and stuff...".
A game is, among other things, a visual medium, which already bars the writing from having that aspect.
And lets get down to the nasty truth; tolkien, for example, has not written great characters or scenes, yet his writing is famous for exactly the information that games could not convey.
No, almost certainly not, and holy fuck that book was awful.
>esoteric
Won't work, has to be shallow enough to be normiefag friendly, but not too shallow or normiefags won't think they're special.
youtube.com
>hey guys remember Willy Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
>hey guys remember The Iron Giant?
>le reference cultre: the book
Sonic Mania
Of course its going to be filled with those too. But every other line has to be an esoteric reference so that way hipsters can pretend they are that its too deep for anyone that wouldn't like it
Is this book just Spy Kids 3D?
Yeah, that book is shit and we already know it. You're not as clever as you think.
Most games have better writing than this shit.
umm
I clapped when I saw The Iron Giant™!!
You actually don't need to worry about it being not too shallow because it'll just kill in the Chinese and poo in loo releases
I GO INTO THE MOVIE THEATER
I SEE THINGS I RECOGNIZE
I CLAPPED
pretty kino
God I hope not
can't wait to hear this zinger in the theater
but
Someone post the picture
You know the one
Tesla :P
Books, you say?
The part where the author spergs out about 80's mecha anime?
This man is having a movie made out of his writings by fucking Steven Spielberg
how bout i post the obligatory video instead
But you can't knock protons off of atoms without completely changing the element

>obvious influences, Neo-Tokyo from Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Metal Gear Solid by Hideo Kojima, or as he's known in my crib, God.”
What did Pinecone mean by this?
These.
Not better than books, but on par.
It's an historical fact that Newton was a sexless virgin autist for his entire life.
DID YOU KNOW THAT THE WITNESS TOOK EIGHT YEARS TO MAKE!?
Epic Nerd Girl Porn
by Ernest Cline
I've noticed that there don't seem to be any porno movies that are made for guys like me.
All the porn I've come across
was targeted at beer-swilling sports watching jock morons
Oh, what are you watching... sports ball?
Le sigh.
You may have been all that in high school, but let's get one thing straight
out here in the real world, us nerds are in charge.
These hunks like stupid women
who have surgery because they're too stupid to think for themselves.
They're bimbos
plain and simple
and they're complete idiots
Absolute empty heads
They're objects
I can't get off to that because I respect women too much, even when they're FUCKING VAPID BITCHES WHO HAVE SEX WITH JOCKS.
But I NEED porn.
I need to rub my dick and imagine I'm rubbing it on a woman until I shoot out white cum.
But I need something better.
That's right motherfuckers - I'm talking about an epic nerd girl!
I want a real woman.
An epic nerd girl with scoliosis.
A girl who knows how to use a calculator or owns a calculator.
Super Mario Bros. The Legend of Zelda. Mega Man. Contra. The uh, the one where the kid puts bananas in his ears. Startropics. Donkey Kong. Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Sonic 3 & Knuckles. [sound of one guy in crowd going wooo yeah at sonic 3 & knuckles]
I'm talking about a porn flim where the girl wears GLASSES.
In my porn film there wouldn't even be sex.
The women would just say "There are 10 kinds of people in the world" and I would say "Huh ok go on" and they would say "People who understand binary and people who don't" and I would cum as soon as she said binary.
Imagine seeing a woman playing chess.
Imagine seeing a woman near a chess board.
Imagine a woman saying "Did you hear about the new Star Trek series?" I would jack off to her. Oh god, oh christ, say Star Trek again. I respect you so much unghhhhhhhhh
My name is Ernest Cline. I'm a Forty-Five-year-old author. I've watched every erotic film in existence, and I have never jerked off. There are MILLIONS of nerds just like me, and we're getting sick of people like you blaming your problems on us. Ignorance causes impotence, not nerd girls. Man up and take responsibility. We outnumber you, and the people that think like you. DON'T FUCK WITH US.
I want to fuck Hogarths mom.
I always crack at that stupid "Mon Mothma's back!" pun.
Fuck off with your fanfiction
We're trying to paraphrase Redlettermedia
He's right, it felt like the Witness took hot shit into my mouth just like in GR.

In case anyone wants a cliffnotes version of the book in the OP
I thunk user meant good books.
no he didn't
I wish someone had just told me the truth right up front, as soon as I was old enough to understand it. I wish someone had just said: “Here’s the deal, Wade. You’re something called a ‘human being.’ That’s a really smart kind of animal. Like every other animal on this planet, we’re descended from a single-celled organism that lived millions of years ago. This happened by a process called evolution, and you’ll learn more about it But trust me, that’s really how we all got here. There’s proof of it everywhere, buried in the rocks. That story you heard? About how we were all created by a super-powerful dude named God who lives up in the sky? Total bullshit. The whole God thing is actually an ancient fairy tale that people have been telling one another for thousands of years. We made it all up. Like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. “Oh, and by the way … there’s no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny. Also bullshit. Sorry, kid Deal with it.
Dude, this is a shitpost thread. The OP is openly mocked by people as being the book equivalent of an old man saying "I'm all about that rocking-and-rolling music!"
woah
That is a horrible description of what's wrong with that book.
*burp
Does this guy legitimately have autism?
any cod title
prove me wrong
protip; you can't
No, for the same reason films and tv shows don't.
Video games are all about the visuals and telling the story through actions on the screen. CRPGs are different though, the could have writing as good as a book seen as the story is told mainly through text.
In all honesty is the fear that this movie will increase the "LOL I'm a nerd too XDD" culture? Literally all anyone will see this movie for is to say "I get that refrence" when they shit from things like star wars or avengers.
What's a better description of the book, then?
>*UUURRRRRPPPPP* GOD'S NOT REAL MORTY *BRAAAAAAPPP*
writing is just a bastardization of the oral story form, so you know
Guy writes power fantasy fan fiction and somehow turns it into a real book.
Divinity:Original Sin
Fallout 2
pure lito
No you fucking faggot they're about the GAMEPLAY
why the fuck do you think they're called video GAMES
cancer.
>people are still triggered over Rick & Morty
Americans were a mistake
you memers will shit on this but it's 100% accurate
you can't prove it wrong, so don't even try
no, because you'll always be biased.
Stop trying to fit in user, you are embarrassing yourself.
It's a Bazinga-laden panderrama for people too retarded to notice that liking billion-dollar IPs doesn't make them special.
The author isn't an "old man" outsider precisely because he chose the most pedestrian shit imaginable to create a self identity (and book universe) out of.
And you can do whatever you want with the rest of the game, that's why they're called VIDEO games.
>hurr gods real cause god says so
Only Rick and Morty viewers could be this retarded.
How do we take back nerd culture?
>fallout 2 has better story than fallout 1
a reddit gold for you
I wish someone had just told me the truth right up front, as soon as I was old enough to understand it. I wish someone had just said: “Here’s the deal, Wade (Wilson). You’re something called a ‘human being.’ That’s a really smart kind of animal. Like every other animal on this animalplanet, we’re descended from a single-celled organism that lived millions of years ago. This happened by a process called evelution, and you’ll learn more about it But trust me, that’s really how we all got here. There’s proof of it everywhere, buried in the rocks and next to the Chronoplast. That story you heard? About how we were all created by a super-saiyan dude named Goku who lives up on planet Namek? Total bullshit. The whole Goku thing is actually an ancient fairy tale that people have been telling one another for thousands of years. Saitama, the One-Punch man is the real hero. We made up the Goku guy. Like Rei and Asuka. “Oh, and by the way … there’s no Rei or Asuka. Also bullshit. Sorry, kid Deal with it.
yeah its called "faith" you godless heathen
I wish someone had just told me the truth right up front, (that war never changes) as soon as I was old enough to understand it. I wish someone had just said: “Here’s the deal, Wade (Wilson). You’re something called a ‘human bean.’ That’s a really smart kind of anmal. Like every other anmal on this animalplanet, we’re descended from a single-celled organism that lived millions of years ago. This happened by a process called evelution, and you’ll learn more about it But trust me, that’s really how we all got here. No it's called 'jewish bullshit'
Not an argument.
>In all honesty is the fear that this movie will increase the "LOL I'm a nerd too XDD" culture?
Increase? The commercial nerd culture already prospered to the vilest extents at this point
Of course they can. The issue isn't that it's game but who it's being marketed to. This is the most typical response here on Sup Forums but it's all because of the normies. Yes there are some who like story, yes there are some who like to read, and yes not all of them are as braindead as all of us here make it seem. However the vast majority don't like to read when playing games, they don't pick up foreshadowing, and they don't like intermission-esque sequences in games because they can't just hack and slash enemies. The only way for a game to be on par with a book is if they don't pander to everyone but instead pander to a specific group. Basically make a fantasy game for fantasy fans. Not every gamer Only.Fantasy.Fans.
The whole business of making games enjoyable for everyone is what's killing vidya.
>halo AR
calling this a novel is very misleading, it's just a long list of pop culture references
>this is what the average gamer look like according to Hollywood
What? The Last of Us and Walking Dead prove this
I liked the description of VR in that book but the rest was very cliche and lacking.
kk
yeah, no shit
I think you guys overestimate how good books typically are. Like there are some amazing books but is there is it really so extreme that you seriously think even the shitiest books are better then any game's story? Games are a younger, they have had some pretty good stories for the 50ish years they have existed. Maybe the best books are better but there probably exist some games better then a majority of books.
Are there any other books that capture the same type of comfy treasure hunting/mystery type narrative?
I didn't really give a fuck about the whole "80s le retro pop culture XD" stuff, but I did find the actual Easter egg hunt to be pretty engaging and it left me wanting more of it.
Bonus points if's more about staying in one location getting comfy while solving the mystery.
>if i shit my way out of arguing I win
>that bit where he goes "ANIME? I WATCHED *ALL* THE ANIME" and then namedrops like three of the most entry level normalfag tier saturday morning Fox Kids shit possible and that's it
fucking hell
is this what being offended feels like?
I'm just trying to help you user
Guess what, your book will never be as profound as music.
I can say that because guess what, mediums are completely different from each other.
Hellgate london had some surprisingly good books
Why are my posts always ignored?
have you tried, oh, i dunno, the entire mystery genre?
try The Flanders Panel
Not really, since movies has not caught up to that either.
Besides it is hard to ask a video game to excel in something it is not in the first place. Once it realises that it can go on and improve aspects tied to it.
You know, I bought copies of The Iliad, The Odyssey, and Heart of Darkness the other day, and I've had a tab open on my phone for Mike Duncan podcasts.
And yet I haven't touched them because I'm too fucking busy watching Let's Play and TGWTG videos.
Can someone threaten me into reading one of them?
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why the religious has never successfully countered any points made by anyone outside their circles. Because they're not operating on the same terms. While reasonable humans argue about things that can be proven and seen, religious people argue about the intangible, the mystery that only they know the answers to. You will reach a point when speaking with a religious person when they run out of excuses and so they have no choice but to fall back on the biggest excuse of all. Take it all on faith. Faith is the answer.
Faith doesn't hold water. There's a reason why religion is on the decline. It was always going to end this way.
Post as many pictures of fedoras, triblys and overweight men as you want, it's not going to convince anyone that your mythology is real.
>Gravity's Memebow
The author is 45 right? I think he's just a old timey guy who thinks the jaded nature of the current generation. My father is 58, when he watches more modern shows that just denounce religion and shit he thinks it'sthe most breakthrough shit ever put on tv.
