>buy this because apparently arena fps are god tier
>proceed to get bodied by 20 year quake vets
How exactly am I supposed to find any fun in this? Did arenafags meme me so they'd have more easy targets to shoot at?
Buy this because apparently arena fps are god tier

No wonder this genre died.
I was new when I played the QC beta and I still had fun even if I didn't win. The fast paced gameplay and map control was fun. I just don't like the classes and abilities.
bind guns to their own key
q rockets
e lightning gun
r rail is a good start
learn to circle jump / strafe jump
learn to combo weapons properly
what coast are you? i dont mind playing with shitters
its not about winning, it's about those little moments
like the time you killed some dude that had the quad and you went on a small rampage with it
Should I stick to the team modes for now? I've only played deathmatch so far.
play TDM if your new
every game is going to have that one guy that got like 2 /3 kills
we were all there at one point
You should, also try to focus on learning where the weapons like the rocket and lighting gun are on each map as well as trying to pick as many health and armos you can.
Armor*
Just play as the doomguy and bumrush people with rage.
Also move around a lot, it helps.
do they still have those little tutorial videos? I remember watching them and being super surprised at how well they leveled them for new players.
I can't tell you how many times I've talked to my friends when they started quake and they didn't even think to collect health and armor after a fight.
>Play game for 20 years
>Pretty decent at it but not on a pro level because its just a game
>New kids coming into the scene are crying that they need to learn how to properly play the game to get kills and there isnt no instant gratification button like in CoD or Overwatch
Sorry kiddo but you need to learn the ropes. Dont get upset that someone who's been practicing a skill for so long is better than you, you just need to put in the time.
Its not really the new players fault, if the game was more populated then he would be playing with people of the same skill and at least this user actually wants to learn instead of just quitting like most do.
Hopefully when this becomes f2p it will have more newcomers so they can have their own matches, i really hate when new players leave, thats why i never trash talk them even if they on my team.
>QC
>map control
lol
LMAO Im expecting bethshitters to introduce casual mode or make everyone slower so console casual babies can win 50/50 ration.
?
Game is not even going to consoles, retard.
So how intrusive are the abilities, really? Are they still enabled in Duel?
They barely change anything. If a game like Overwatch is 10% skill and 90% counterpicking, Quake Champions is the opposite. Yes they are enabled in Duel.
Also, the Nailguns suck.
Oh no its never the new players fault, but Quake isnt a casual game and it, at least it should, be known for its depth/difficulty. I hope it gets big once it goes f2p as well.
They are part of the core game, like special moves in arcade fighter games.
I hated the idea at first, but they actually fun to use.
That's a relief. I'll probably pick this up eventually, then
Did you not watch the tournament that happened during Quakecon? The abilities seem pretty balanced and yeah theyre enabled in Duel. It was actually pretty great to watch.
HUH
What was your first experience with arena FPS like?
>be 28 years old
>be console player all my life...
>like playing many games but gravitate towards 3D platformers, FPS, and stealth games.
>Metroid Prime Hunters comes out on the DS 2006
>played the hell out of it at home and even at school.
>Played it until the L button on the DS stopped working (then bought another one, lol)
>2009
>build my first PC
>start playing lots of PC FPS like Valve games and DOOM
>Discover TF2, Quake, and Unreal Tournament
>Love the hell out of fast FPS despite my skill being average
>Arena FPS have low populations during this time
>Fast forward to now and arena FPS are coming back
Time to git gud and tear things up :)
Not him, but it's a bit less important this time around, at least as far as weapons go
>maps with 2 RL spawns, 2 LG spawns are common
>a few choice maps have 3
You still need to control quad and mega obviously. Also, a lot of ammo from regular weapon pickups in this, 150 cells on the LG seems to last forever. You don't have to go hunting for ammo very often
dm is a mess
I started at pretty young age, was 19 years old when i played CTF in Unreal tournament but i didnt knew how to actually play, i didnt care much about skill, cared more about just fucking around in new maps and all i did mostly was trying to capture, when UT died i pretty much abandoned the genre until Quake Live came out, fun game but got tired of getting my ass handed to myself so thats when i started to care about getting skilled, i can say i have a pretty decent level now.
The best way to play quake is to get a group of friends together and play LAN duels. Prove me wrong.
Map control is also positioning and thats just as important in QC as ever was in any arena shooter.
okay
the best way to play quake is 1 flag ctf in team arena on mp_terra2
Been playing Quake for about a year now. Im average at best but its fun
it appeals to console shitters because overwatch you faggot. also bethshitters won't miss a 60+ million base, expect console versions.
they have a playable tutorial now
yes its crucial
they honestly make the game better for me
no, they just want more targets to shoot at, not necessarily easy targets to shoot at.
I mean, arena FPS have flaws but they're 10x better than other FPS.
Can someone tell me why a AAA studio would put their game in early access ?
$$$$$$$$$
make keybinds for quick switch on your weapons and prefire shit and youll do fine
yes team modes are infinitely better tthen deathmatch. way less chaotic
There are plenty of bad players on it right now and you should not be rewarded for starting a game out. Those vets are beating you with raw fundamentals and reactions get fucked.
According to the player count it looks more like -$
his rage is too "hard" to use. id say scalebearer honestly
This genre died because FPS/shooters in general attract the lowest of the low like you and OP you faggot. Because you cannot stand mechanical depth that requires you to spend more then 10 seconds with a game and that plateaus exist between you and actual good players to the extent where getting 1 kill on them in match for you is usually a pipe dream.
Thank god fighting games naturally scare you cunts away and only Capcom shit has been poisoned.
>Muh overwatch!
No console version, retard. Champions appeals to players who have been playing Quake instead of being worthless shitposters.
Doomguy has other advantages over Scalebearer though: higher base movespeed, double jump and non-gigantic hitbox
what the fuck you're 39?
WRONG
This genre died because people forgot how to have fun. Most of them had mod communities, fun maps, surfing, trickmaps/rocket jump/mods/ rocket race/fuckaround maps/tiny arena/mutators etc.
You didn't play quake or ut99 as a kid because it was for people who were hot shit, no one gave a fuck about it being hard or pro back then, they bought it for the campaign and potential for fun, then you got gud from playing it so much.
How soon we forget.
Maps like Blood Covenant(Campgrounds) which only have one RL and LG spawn and is the most played map for duel still require and will reward whoever controls the map, guy is just a retarded shitposter, maybe he should go play his dead quake/cpma clones instead.
ChaosUT was my shit back in the day, I loved grappling around and blowing shit up.
>Shitters getting mad they get raped because they realize they have no fundamentals spacing or map control and have been playing trash where Halo/COD have become norms in the skill cap for what they need to learn.
Sad as fuck man.
So in other words, they died because game devs think people can't handle mapmaking anymore, even though Halo proved otherwise
>People forgot how to have fun.
What does this even mean? The genre died because shitters couldn't have fun the second they popped it in and were insecure about being shit. The movement/map control took too much for them.
Of course as a kid i played them for fun and loved them as i do now even when i've gotta much much better at UT and such. But the modern gamer has now grown up with shit like COD4.
It means they died because the same industry logic that pushes out one trick pony COD shit shooters also is now producing one trick pony PRO MLG HARDCORE ARENA shooters under the same marketing and failing because the game only does one thing which is eating shit until you get gud.
That wasn't the only thing you could do in ut99/2004 and quake.
Games were designed for fun and silliness, not deliberately engineered from the blueprint stage as 'we want the e-sports audience'
This so fuckin much, the real pros even had their own servers, they didnt really jump on the most populated servers where most people just played for fun back then, it was all about playing new maps and mods, UT99 CTF in servers like unreal playground and StrangeLove mod servers will always be the best time i will ever had in any online game and skill wasn't really the focus, none of that e-sports cancer, back then becominga pro was just for a few selected players, now everyone wants to be one.
Modern multiplayer game design begs to differ.
>StrangeLove mod servers will always be the best
MY FUCKING NEGRO
>Nights of sitting up until 4am while laughing my tits off at hilarious fuckups on slv maps.
Remember the giant toilet tube one with CTF?
this is the fun shit that is missing.
>How exactly am I supposed to find any fun in this?
you only have fun if you're winning?
>games
>skill
kek
>hi i hate normalfags but isn't anything a normalfag wouldn't do so cringeworthy?
I'm 28
>Remember the giant toilet tube one with CTF?
I think i do, there was a lot of crazy and weird maps back then, we even had some iraq maps which had osama pictures in the walls and shitty allah akbar music playing in the background, also huge maps like one that you spawned in an aircraft carrier and the enemy flag was in some island.
Great times and yeah it's just missing, nowadays along with small communities and clans spawning every time a new shooter was released.
Modern multiplayer games are ass
Not always, Far Cry 2 had terrible maps and COD remakes and that was it.
I love Champions I don't get why people hate it too much. I am really impressed they managed to bring in all the different movespeeds from every Quake game and have it feel balanced. I still hope they bring in a Strogg or somebody from 4 so that it plays more similar to that movement, that was the one I was best at.
>hurrdurr shit game
The campaign might have been but the multiplayer was fine.
You know what they; when you play with the best.
Extremely well selling and popular ass that're replaced every few months
I still have to unlearn some habits from other FPS games but this is my first quake game I've played seriously and I enjoy it even in matches where it feels like I'm completely outskilled. Hopping around and trying to frag people is just really fun. Playing the F2P version and will probably drop the 30 on it for the whole roster when I get tired of Ranger.
All toasters toast toast?
A shame stats and abilities ruins an otherwise good game.
when will they fix the shitty netcode
also rail shots getting blocked by tiny 2 pixel wall details is fucking infuriating
You should also learn the maps and the way your favorite hero builds speed. Because when you take all the important stuff like armors and 200 hp lifes and your enemy doesn't, you don't die immediatly if you make a mistake, unlike your opponent who has to play very carefully.
In more team-based modes it doesn't matter as much because you die very quickly in those anyway. Still good to have map knowledge so you can figure out the fastest routes to your own base to deliver the objective, etc.
Nailgun and Tribolt are garbage weapons, what were the devs thinking adding these 2 weapons in the arsenal?
I feel like they are good weapons for area control not so much for actually killing stuff, maybe the nailgun in close quarters
They are "if opponent chases you"-weapons, good in chokepoints but not much else.
tribolt is good for spamming portals, nailgun is for spamming hallways
they just split up the q3 grenade launcher into two different weapons to reduce its effectiveness. which was completely unnecessary imo. people who complained about the nade launcher were like noobs who whined about the AWP in counter strike
Post your stats
Nailgun in particular makes me mad cause its supposed to replace Plasma and while you can do minor climbs with it you can't do a lot of the older ones like getting rail on blood covenant
>Far Cry 2 had terrible maps
>he never played a recreation of d-day, pirate ships with gas bottle missile cannons, capture the flag between 2 towers in a void, a floating ratmaze or a goddamn space ship battle
FC2's map making scene was the most creative I'd seen since the 90s, especially how generally well used it's crappy snap-together system was.
Is that supposed to be a pro?
In this industry in this day and age. Yes. It's all about making cheap FOTM garbage that makes a good profit, tossed aside just in time for the next piece of shit.
>1st time playing
>1st game is TDM
>enemy team has a good player that destroys my team with 27 kills
>still win 50-37 because me and my team as a collective score 11+ kills each
>is in 2nd place with 13 kills
Feels good for my first game man
I also just bought this, but I used to play UT2k4 back when it came out.
I had major fun even in my first couple matches. It was exciting. Haven't had that much fun playing a game in a long time, actually.
>How exactly am I supposed to find any fun in this?
Play more and get better? Or you could just give up and go back to minecraft
Is this even worth buying? Seems dead in playerbase already.
Don't go by the Steam charts. The F2P version doesn't show up for obvious reasons. I'm able to get into a game within 30 seconds. Lots of people are playing.
The steam player count doesn't count people who aren't using steam to play it. You'll find a match within under a minute typically or even under 30 sec.
I've seen a lot of people shit all over this though, are there some underlying problems with the new Quake game or something?
>they just split up the q3 grenade launcher into two different weapons to reduce its effectiveness. which was completely unnecessary imo. people who complained about the nade launcher were like noobs who whined about the AWP in counter strike
What the shit? I've never seen anyone complain about the GL in any Quake. It's easily the hardest weapon to kill with, basically a RL but much more demanding
Why haven't you played Duel yet?
Not gonna lie the netcode at times is shit. Rockets don't register and there's a memory leak issue. The free to play version offers one champion with the ability to unlock more champions with favor. You get favor from playing matches and completing challenges. In the time I've bought the champions pack I think I've unlocked 9-10 champions to own from backpacks.
I played duel on the beta, not really into it on the early access. I had a 3.5 kdr
Why is everyone in denial about the netcode? They act like rocket and rail duds are rare but they happen every couple of matches to me
Some guy defending it on the previous thread said that dud rockets happen "1-5%" of the time, which is an insane number, 1 in 100 rockets not doing damage is nuts considering I almost always fire all of them from a pickup, and 5% would mean 1 in 20 are a dud, which is even more insane
Keep in mind, this happened on QL very rarely, and on UT too. Playing over the internet is always going to have weird things happening, but QC has them happening way too often
Well the netcode is shit and people complain about it in chat a lot. The rail shots aren't a problem, it's the rockets. They said they fixed the problem months ago and it's still present.
I played QL when it was still a (((browser game))), I don't remember the rockets not connecting.
>The Unreal Tournament legacy died for this
UT4 is shit and the netcode is still garbage. This is coming from a 18 year vet of playing UT99. I retired when QC went to EA.
Well I say that UT4 is the best arena shooter not only now but maybe ever made and this is coming from a 20 year old vet playing all the UTs and also I am the Master of the Universe.
