Monster Hunter!

What are you:

Currently playing 4U and using the Insect Glaive.
>G2 Fire Drill quest
>Have to hunt both a Brach and a Styg
Is it better to take out the Styg first? I took down Brach without much trouble, but I ended up having to complete subquest because I ran out of healing items.

40 hours in and I still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing though. I never go on expeditions, never use that fishing machine, don't really hire palicos, and I have no idea what skills I should be focusing on.

>40 hours in and I still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing though.
That's good, just means that you still have a lot to learn. I'm 400 hours in myself and still get fairly lost. Seltas armor is definitely nice to have, especially for a Gunlance user. I assume you're in low rank?

Barely got an airship and reached a new town. What's considered low? I unlocked 5 star missions today.

Did you get to a beach? If so, you're still in LR. You'll know you're done with village LR when you see the first ending after you fight a certain elder dragon.

What's the verdict on MonHun Stories?

The combat system is very basic, but that's not exactly a bad thing. It definitely has a fun amount of fanservice, and if the MH games never clicked with you but you always liked the world and the monsters, then I definitely think it's worth picking up. It's a nice introduction to the series.

The town after the beach is where I'm at. Monsters are starting to go berserk here.

Oh, so you're in Cathar. You're nearly to the end of LR. The Seltas armor is good for Gunlance, so I'd recommend it.

I rather fight against teostra and lunastra at the same fucking time before touching that shitty ass game again.

>3rd gen has a lot of fun monsters, more so than gens 1 and 2
>Underwater kills it for me personally as well
Lance is good in 3U underwater I think

Apparently MHO is back in english, so I'm setting that shit up again.

Isn't it p2w?

sheeeeit, nice

I thought the new DRM prevented it but looks like there's a new way around

time for more pc monhun

Nooooo, this thread will not survive

That is a porn edit.

...

I used GL in MHFU but it was under powered and I eventually dropped it. How powerful are the new moves it got since then, like the overhead slam + use all your shells?

Also, are they still mainly ugly as sin? Some look awesome when they have bayonets attached but then sometimes youre stuck using a corn on the cob

The GL in World looks like a lot of fun, but that's still a year away.

In recent games, GL got shafted thanks to speed creep and is still overall one of the weakest weapons. Shell damage is still static and decided by an arbitrary level system instead of scaling with say raw, which is what the Charge Blade does for impact phials.

In P3rd it had the Auto-Guard bug that allowed it to block when it wasn't supposed to, and 3U was probably the last time where weapon balance between everything was actually reasonable. World looks like it will make it a bit more competent with mobility and speed buffs, on top of a new harpoon attack.

>zinogre drawn like a dog
THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS
fucking furries

is a monster hunter game but for people who only like pokemon. So if you don't like the actual MH game, then go for Stories.

...

Give up user, MH threads can only survive in Sup Forums using console ears as fuel.

I think is supposed to look like a muscular wolf but doesn't mean is a literal canine. The more I see his design the more I see him being a mix of a crocodile and a Qirin, maybe is a beefy oriental dragon (because almost every monster is a dragon with ambiguous designs) due to the fur on its back. and the long tail

I think it would be more appropriate tobsay that ifnyou like MH's setting but not it's normal gameplay, then MH stories is for you.

>LS has a counter

I feel like a lot of weapons in World come off as really OP so far. Everything but the HH has gotten a ton of new stuff.

Given Yukumo's theme, it's very possible that Zinogre may be loosely based on eastern dragons as well.

fine.
Stories is a monster hunter game without the full experience of monster hunter. If you like their design and world but don't like their gameplay, then Stories is a new experience for a spin off

Balancing upwards is more fun than balancing downwards
And plus we have no idea what endgame monsters will be like, it seems like even Rath got a fresh moveset again.

HH got a few things I think, the recital shockwaves at least should give it a much better damage output.

Hunting horn has some new mechanic that lets you play multiple songs, don't they?

>hunt glavenus and Uragaan in the V. Hollow

I will actually pay Capcom to never bring the sunken/volcanic hollow back ever again. Same goes for the dunes.

So what could we expect from high rank-exclusive monsters? Could Deviljho return and actually be more terrifying or will we have a new equivalent monster to rip and tear the uninitiated?

HH can play songs in less swings (hitting button + R2 adds a note and immediately plays) and the recital itself has a shockwave that does extra damage now

Apparently you can queue up more songs, yeah. Seems like a decent alternative to double notes.

Well the first big monster is literally just a toned Jho so he could easily show up

Can you not download any MH4U dlc anymore? There's nothing in the eshop. Am I too late?

Dude, Believe me, i tried the demos, i really tried but i can't get used to MH's normal gameplay, i keep changing between running and fighting pose, i feel slow as fuck, i hate how the camera doesn't fucking lock into the monster. Then i tried stories and was the complete opposite experience, i love how i can havey own monster instead if just killing them, the cute cle shade for the human characters and how colorful os the world.

toned down*

>There's nothing in the eshop.

Protip, you don't download MH DLC through eShop. You download quests and extras in-game.

yeah i get it, Stories is for the people who don't like/don't mind the original gameplay but still want to get into the series like people going for pokemon mystery dungeon instead of the version games. Is still the same name but different gameplays. Let's hope Stories branch out on its own series otherwise you'll have to drop MH for good

talk to house cat, ask for downloads

S.Magala. I like the fight and the armor seems good. I really really hope the Magalas are in MHW.

I recognize that artist. Good taste, OP.

Also Hunting Horn best weapon.

>Playing
4U. Finished making my CB and GS set. Trying to make a good DB set now
>Hunting
GQ 140 double Rajang
>Using
GS for Rajang since I suck against him with any other weapon.

Haven't played much monster hunter since FU, I fucking hated 3 with a passion because of the fishing village and the underwater sections. 4U was good but by that time I was so sick of the 3DS' shit ergonomics and small resolution I just couldn't enjoy the game at all.

I'm currently playing PUBG, I'm really looking forward to World since PC is the only system I have these days.

I'll be using the good old weapon combo that I've stuck with since MHF, GS, SnS and Hammer for Raths.

Any aussies going to play with me on PC?

>and if the MH games never clicked with you but you always liked the world and the monsters, then I definitely think it's worth picking up.
This, I played ~40 hours collectively in 3U and 4U but I never really got the hang of it, but I always loved the monsters and the world and wanted to somehow have it in my life. I've already put about 12 hours into the Stories demo just fucking around, it would be my GOTY just based on the content in the demo if Persona 5 didn't exist. Still hoping World will help me finally get into the main series but either way I know I'll be satisfied with Stories.

>Only 40 hours

I don't think you understand just how bad I was
also i just couldn't into a game like that on the 3DS

>only 40 hours
not even gaijin hunter whined that much

Why the fuck you put 40 hours in something you didn't enjoyed?!

Playing MHXX on my Switch. Still early in the game, dreaming of when I can hammer the fuck out of some monsters.

Holy shit I forgot how awful the early quests are. Go get some mushrooms. Go get 10 herbs. Now get 20 herbs. Now get 10 herbs as a cat.

Whats the best monster hunter i can emulate?

P3rd HD on the PSP
Look up the English version

I did enjoy it, I was just embarrassingly bad at it

>dropped MH with gen
>didn't enjoy the over the top styles, old ass maps and the clunkiness finally got to me
>get excited for world
>want to play MH again
>dont want to play 3U
>played 4U so much that I'm it's still fresh in my mind
>gen is the only one I didn't get far in (village quest wise)

Fuck. Maybe I'll just wait for MH stories to hold me over a bit until I forget about world and think about other things.

World will fix this, yet weebs will still claim "CASUALIZATION".

It's going to be so funny, the amount of shit World fixes.

>people hate underwater
>tfw I actually kinda like it because it's different despite being kinda clunky

I think its problems are way overblown, I'll give that it's harder to deal with a 3DS lacking a CPP or N3DS nipple but that's it. Only so many monsters were fought underwater and shit, most people don't realize SnS had higher MVs to compensate for its shorter combo which I often see complaints about.

i want to "hug" my palico!

...

From what I can recall, the majority of complaints were leveled at how movesets were gutted underwater with the exception of longsword, gunlance and bow. Longsword could abuse the fuck out of directional fadeslashes to dodge twice as far, gunlance could use the charging thrust freely to cover distance without sheathing and bow just had to compensate for "heavier" projectiles. Meanwhile, arc shots became hilariously overpowered whenever you were fighting Gobul because of the way arc shot payloads worked underwater.

Don't forget Normal Lv3 shots being overpowered underwater and Lance able to dodge in nearly any direction.

i want to hug my palico but im allergic to cats

Thanks for reminding me of how hilariously broken Siege Normal Lv3 was against giant monsters like Goldbeard.
>mfw 5 minute solo kills without heroics or adrenaline

didnt play 4th gen or X, trying to figure out the new GL

So you can follow up the Overhead Slam with all your shells, or you can follow it up with the powerful roundhouse. You can follow either of those with the Wyrmstake. Reloading reloads all of your shells AND your Wyrmstake.

So won't optimal GL play usually be overhead -> shells -> wyrmstake -> reload, rinse repeat? I'm trying to see what situation would have you using the roundhouse at all, I suppose if somehow you did the overhead but didnt have shells.

>stun-locking Ceadeus with a single HBG
underwater was a mistake

Delete this piece of shit's entire species forever

hunting this monster in hyper is so annoying, specially when it starts to coil you

Seriously, what a fucking mistake

We need more sneks, Naja is a cool monster, it kills shitters with close to no effort, hell the ice variant even play billiard with you.

>Tidal Najarala

>Ice
It's water, and no, Najarala is fucking horrible

Ice, water? whatever, you fight it in the ice and it is a bounce shitfest, so it is perfect for a gunner like me.

Started with Generations. Looking to get MH4U when my N3DS arrives to replace my 3DSXL.

I plan on getting stories because it looks gorgeous.

What's good in 4U? I liked Hunting Horn the most in Generations but it's way worse in 4U right?

...

>triple charge its back leg
>free trip
>roll under its tail when it falls
>you're now right in front of its head
>do a slap into strong charge
>repeat until dead

>Gunner
Wow, it's almost as like Gunners have much easier times with annoying shit monsters like Gravios and Najarala.

HH was never as good for solo hunting as the other weapons, because Capcom still sees it as a support only weapon.
Speaking of 4U in particular, IG, GS, CB and HBG are the top dogs. Especially the first two. CB is my personal favorite, and seeing how World CB moveset is based off of 4U's CB, you might wanna train with it for a bit, if you haven't used this weapon a lot in Gen.

CB and IG are overpowered in 4U, HH is ok but it lacks of the new stuff, double notes? I don't use it tho.

>Using the IG in 4U
>It spoils you with being so good that most other weapons don't feel half as good anymore

The only thing that gunners really have to fear are the fast and unpredictable powerhouses with ranged attacks, aka: Rajang's laser attack.

Anything else is a joke for us I can take a 140 apex pickle and never get touched.

Pickle is pretty bad monster for gunners too, since most of his moveset targets enemies at medium range, while staying under him is pretty much 100% safe.
Especially the apex Jho, which has very shit armored hitzones for gunning.

How the fuck is XX not out on switch yet?

What could possibly be taking so long?

But it is.

Single-handedly outclassed both LS and SA. What the fuck were the devs thinking?

Things you don't want to comeback to World:
>apex
>deviants
>retard charm
>retard charm farms
>thousands of gathering quests
>hayabusa feather

Not in English, they have to give full support to MHW.

They planned all this shit forehand, once they release MHW, about 1 month latter they will release MHXX in English.

Charms confirmed to be back, but skill system itself is reworked. I hate farm charm too.
I don't want Raths back, but they're also already confirmed.

>LS has a counter now
>SnS doesnt

what

>oils are gone
I'll kinda miss those. They weren't huge boosts, but I really liked the mind's oil utility. When playing Deathprize support SnS, I'd really like not to bounce off of every fucking square centimeter of a crab.

Shells if you're on a shit hitzone, slap otherwise. The slap does like double the damage of your slam.

Retarded deviant ticket system, that's pretty much it, deviants can come back but they have to get the same treatment of any other monster, they also can't be key or urgent, just "advanced" quests in HR for those who feel masochist enough.

Shells do fixed damage and don't (or at least didn't) scale with your weapon's raw damage, like CB phials do. So shelling really falls behind in the late game, turning GL into a poking stick, just like lance. Plus the full-burst REALLY eats at your sharpness, so spamming shells is generally far from being optimal.

Deviants, as in more fleshed out subspecies than just recolors are good. But using them as glorified endgame content was worse than Guild Quests.

>hayabusa feather
rings me a bell, what was it again?
