It's pretty tough. I've been walled on more than one occasion. Even the easiest mode doesn't really fuck around. You'll benefit from having prior rhythm experience, but it's a pretty different beast from Diva.
There's also a challenge mode called world tour. At first I thought it was really fucking hard, but I discovered (way too late) that a certain type of equipment kind of breaks the challenge for a lot of the missions.
My biggest complaint with the game is that the UI is very limited, so multiple inputs share the same space. For example, down on the D-pad is in the same place as down on the left analog stick. I don't think it's particularly intuitive and even now I still swap inputs because of it every so often.
Also, transitioning from 4TRAX to 6TRAX is fucky because the UI changes, making the top notes in 4TRAX the middle notes in 6TRAX. It was hard for me to get used to.

No, you only unlock DJs (passive bonuses like EXP boosts and shields for missed notes) and note sounds in world tour
Songs are unlocked by leveling up, and you gain experience by playing songs and clearing world tour missions.
The highest difficulty, 6TRAX FX, is unlocked when you clear 6TRAX stage mode for the first time if I recall right.
The worst part of the unlock system is the structure of stage mode itself.
Each difficulty (4TRAX, 6TRAX, 6TRAX FX) has a separate stage mode where you play three songs (the song list is separated into three "stage" sets).
In order to unlock a song's pattern in any of the difficulties (aside from default songs) for free play, you have to clear it in the respective stage mode, which can mean playing songs over again just to reach the stage where a new song is open. It's kind of grindy and doesn't make sense in a console environment if you ask me.
Stage mode feels like it was designed for arcade play. There's even a "thanks for playing" animation when you clear three stages and it kicks you to the title screen.

If you have the season pass, you won't notice any difference except the tangible goodies like user mentioned. Honestly, it's clever marketing - people who ate faithful after having bought the game may just pick up the individual itemsafter the fact and it's another chance to hook a whole new wave of buyers.
That being said, if I can't buy the songs and shit without having to buy the tangible game, after already owning it, I'd be pretty peeved.
