MOds: Good or Bad?

Lets talk about mods Sup Forums. Do you feel as though every game should be moddable? Do you feel it takes away from the games original artistic vision? Which ones do you find acceptable or not?

People can do whatever the fuck they want to the game they paid for as far as I'm concerned.

So how about when devs go out of their way to block them?

Every game should be moddable
No, because you're not being forced to download the fucking mod you dope

That's their decision. They can do whatever the fuck with the game they developed or published. If customers don't like it they shouldn't buy the game.

SFV is shit

Mods are ok in my books. They can breathe more life into a game

Should every game be moddable? I don't know what this means exactly. Typically a game is moddable if it's well optimized, not locked down by DRM, or natively supports mods.
The first are mortal sins that should never be committed by any game developer, the problem starts there in those cases.
The last one isn't a requirement. Devs don't have to implement modding support. People will do their own thing with the game from there.

Mods are inherently good, because they only add content and customization to a game optionally.
Look at GTA SA/VC. They aren't particularly made for modding, yet today the mods FIX the games. They add back music, they add better controller support, they fix the game for modern resolutions.
It's simply a good thing.
Blocking modding makes absolutely no sense. It's extra effort to make a game worse. It literally doesn't make sense.
Can you actually name any games that do this? I actually can't think of any off the top of my head.

It's mostly modern Japanese developers that don't want people to alter the integrity of their work. I think it might have a lot to do with their business culture. If when they're looking for new employment they put their previous games they've worked on in their portfolio and some suit looks it up and all they see is porn of that game they might get the wrong impression of that potential employee.

wtf I love sf5 now

>Blocking modding makes absolutely no sense
Tell that to Rockstar

Ah yes, Japs, I don't play many of their games outside of Nintendo and Squenix so I can't speak on that.

Kikes are greedy and they make stupid decisions.
They block modding because they want you to buy shark cards for multiplayer, they don't want you having whatever original content is made for single player.
Little do they understand, the overlap between people who mod singleplayer GTA and those braindead modern apes who purchase shark cards, don't overlap.
The extent they will go through to go after purely singleplayer modders is astonishing to be quite honest.

Only fags use mods

Mods are made by autists that think they know more than the people that made the game, for autists who just want free shit.

and it turns out most often that they do!

sad!

If they were any good, they'd have a job.

most modders have jobs to support themselves though there's probably a fair share of them on autismbux

but i don't see why that would impact the quality of their work

>Mods are made by autists that think they know more than the people that made the game
I didn't know developers want game-breaking bugs to be in their games, but oh well, who am I to question the almighty wisdom of a video game developer, huh?

you do realize that modders getting employed by game companies is a thing that happens, right?

They would have a job making games, which they don't. They're just armchair developers who add whatever stupid shit they want into a game. The worst is when people think a mod makes a game better than how the developers wanted it to be.

>you do realize that modders getting employed by game companies is a thing that happens, right?

And how rarely does that happen?

>Mods are inherently good, because they only add content and customization to a game optionally
you're leaving out Mods that are essentially cheats and unfair advantages.

Take the upcoming MHW for PC- If a mod comes out that gives exact HP of a monster, and makes it visible to the player, that's giving an unintended advantage to the players that defeats a core part of the gameplay (gauging the monster's HP off of its actions and your own damage output).

Or if something mods League of Legends to show you effective ranges of a champion's abilities, or auto-displays the CD of abilities, then you're getting WAY more information than you should.

Mods- in general - are good. But they can very easily be detrimental to a game

Don't play competitive games made by developers who don't control for these things if you don't like them.

?
Who cares? As long as it isn't multiplayer. When it's multiplayer it's literally cheating, because you gain an advantage over others.
I don't really understand Monster Hunter, I don't like boring Japanese games, is that game online? Is it half online, like Borderlands 2? I'm just going to compare it to Borderlands 2.
So if someone creates weapons in Borderlands 2, it is on the developer to make anticheat so that modded guns (a bottomless rifle which shoots damage cap rockets) can't be used online. Anticheat which should've been developed in the first place.
Focusing on better anti-cheat is more efficient than trying to block modders (See; GTA:Online).

In your league example, you're simply talking about cheating/hacking. Nobody was talking about hacks.
Don't equate modifying a single player product that only effects the owner, with people who mod a game and ruin the experience for others.

Cosmetic mods are clearly a problem in current year since companies are trying to sell you cosmetic items for real money. SFV is a very good example of this since it's supposed to be running a kind of SaaS model. They might not want free crowdsourced content to be competing with their paid content.

Mods are the best.
