How do we fix dragons in vidya, lads?

Dragon's Dogma.
That's a wyvern, not a dragon.
case in point
flying enemies are annoying as fuck in every video game ever made
Have them fire semen at the player which makes the player fly while the dragon lands.
Why do Americans have such a hardon for wyverns anyway? They look stupid.
"Muh realism"
Your modern viewer, regardless of country, has a hard time dealing with hard fantasy so they prefer soft fantasy. Wyverns are more "realistic" because they look more like animals that we have around today.
Yes? Pic was obviously unrelated.
All wyverns are dragons.
>hard fantasy
In Monster hunter you have to whack the dragon with a dagger that is actually bigger than you for about 15 minutes for it to die.
All of them?
By that morons definition yes that is a dragon, but he is wrong.
Wyverns are "two legged dragons."
>hard fantasy
Still fucking stupid considering that there's still no way a wyvern that's bigger than a T-Rex could lift itself up.
>Begs to differ
...
Bullshit, Barroth is a wyvern and by that concept it is also a dragon.
en.wikipedia.org
>A dragon-like creature with wings but only a single pair of legs is known as a wyvern.
>dragon-like
BTFO
More classic dragons

>mfw books explicitly differentiate wyverns from dragons
>series is just such casual fantasy trash it doesnt cares
So why not just call them wyverns?
>Barroth is a wyvern
Don't be retarded.
Because normies hate using new words and details.
You can't. Dragons are meant to be beatable. If dragons actually used every advantage they had, it'd be near impossible to win. Almost every story or situation that involves slaying a dragon, puts huge retard goggles or handicaps on them. They only exist to say, "look how powerful this is", and then to kill them to prop others up.
>what is a wiwren? it's obviously a draguun! HAHAHAHQHAHBAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAS SHIT GAME FUCK YOU KOJIMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Normie brainlets basically
Which books are we talking about?
...
>I know dragons don't exist but bats do and they are just like dragons right?
Fucking flawless logic
But Kojima really is a hack though, you can't just dismiss that fact just by screaming about normalfags, they also love that faggot so your shit is doubly wrong kojima cultist
Oh, well, if wikipedia says it then it must be true.
confirmed retarded who didn't read the books
Because if you only have one kind of dragon there's no need to specify.
Kalameet works because Gough shoves an arrow in its wing. Otherwise, yeah. I don't think dragons should be in video games at all unless they're a character or fast travel thing.

The tyrannosaurus rex in my picture is also a wyvern.
stfu dragonfag nobody cares about your stupid dragons i bet u fap to dragon diaper porn u fucking fag
In all fairness I think the only property to give the third picture there a distinct name is when MLP named them Alicorns.
Cuz dragon sounds cooler
I don't care for your retarded weebshit m8. I said don't be retarded and that goes for Japan as well.
Its funny, you're accusing me of being a newfag whle you're the one acting like knowing some faggot eceleb is necessary, you lack total self-awareness and that is fucking hilarious
It's "low"/"high" fantasy, "soft"/"hard" is for sci-fi
That's kind of a weird alternate universe that never invented any kind of sandwich except frankfurter in a hot dog bun but sure, that'd also work
Lemme guess, you, on the top of your head, have no idea who CWC is
But look, nigga:

I liked Midir. Overrated difficulty though.
This is still a dragon that lands and lets you attack it. That Godzilla fire breathe is OP and it has no reason not to stay in the air and only do that.
Check out this cool ass dragon.
And before you ask, yes, it is 100% confirmed to be a dragon.
Because they're dragons.
Don't be autistic.
Yeah, okay. I don't know how it works in Japan but someone needs to teach these Japs that English words actually have meanings.
>English words actually have meanings.
Except apparently wyvern or dragon which can mean anything to you.
>Dragon in One Piece
>everyone is like holy shit what is that a dragon?
>dragons are a myth how is this possible? holy shit
>they still kick it's ass with no effort even though they were shitting their pants
What was the point of the chapter then? Why build it up that it's a dragon
>One piss
Nii-nii
Quite the opposite. It can mean anything to the Monster Hunter devs, but to me, a wyvern strictly refers to two-legged winged dragons (properly with a poisonous barb on its tail).
Allow the player to ride a dragon/wyvern in return to fight it. I don't know if dragon/wyvern riding breaks any other rules about those creatures, but I don't know of any reasons not to have it. Don't post Lair as a counter. It's too easy.
How did the author of this piece completely miss out on Fafnir and Beowulf's Bane and Smaug? That's where we get modern fantasy dragons from.
Dragons are generally too intelligent and selfish to allow a human to ride them. Wyverns are dumber so potentially could be controlled.
>How do we fix dragons in vidya
>Let's just talk about what is a dragon and what is a wyvern, as always
Noice.
it's weakened because you wacked it hard on its legs on the bridge before, where you should be making your case I guess
Newsflash people couldn't make up their minds even hundreds of years ago.
Midir was a cool dragon
It's because when you really think about it, a predatory creature with four legs and two wings doesn't make any sense. What so they need four legs for? Running fast? They can fucking fly if they wanna go fast. The only way four legs would be an advantage is if they live in a stuffy old cave, which is why so many do.
>wahhh why aren't video games just like my epic Sup Forums
This here is the mindset that led to the rise of the cinematic gaming experience.
Its not about who they are you dumbass, its know precisely what they said, why the fuck would I know what DSP said when I don't watch it? Next you're going to get pissy because I don't know what pewdiepie said
cries uncontrollably
What is the best Skyrim mod to fix dragons, guys?
It has scales, of course its a dragon
>wahhh why aren't videogames historically accurate just like my epic /his/?
This here is the mindset that led to the rise of BF1
Wyvern design work best with bestial/animalistic dragons. But if the dragon in your property talks, uses magic, or anything like that, four legs and wings works better.
I want to suck dragon cock.
Because it was posted for the better half of a year.
If you didn't pick it up by then it means either:
1) you weren't there
2) you are blind
I don't think 2 is a option, so it's 1, you are a massive newfag
Dragons with 4 legs are probably too powerful for movies/TV shows, since they can move on land just as well as they do in the air, they have no disadvantage that allows the heroes to slay them.
There's no official naming for these fictional creatures. It's not a FACT that 'two-legged dragons' are called wyverns.
I don't know why this triggers autists on Sup Forums so much all the time.
What about RPGs?
>Dragons are generally too intelligent and selfish to allow a human to ride them.
>What is Eragon
>What is Temeraire
And even In vidya we have Drakan, and Dragonlore which are all based around dragons and their riders. It's not really unusual to see.
Deadly Dragons + Legendary, you'll be fighting that dragon for a good 20 minutes.
Pretty much this.
>my vision of dragons is the only correct one
>It's not a FACT that 'two-legged dragons' are called wyverns
It literally is. The entire distinction and usage of the word came about from heraldry, where the distinction was actually important, but then, even a slightly wrong four legged dragon was worthy of autism.
I'm glad we agree
a made up human concept is not a fact no matter how much you want it to be.
why is this meme pushed, people get their definitions from 80's fantasy novels and think it's definitive and that they're geniuses. the two words can be interchangable
A lot of things we made up are considered fact, doesn't change that the whole existence of many of our labels are acknowledged only by humans after all.
Turn the dragons into cute girls.
You dense motherfucker, EVERYTHING is a made up human concept.
Play EDF then. Dragons in that fly fucking fast, spew fire everywhere, pick you up in their mouths and fly you to the ends of the earth while eating you.
Sure they die easily as all flying creatures should, so the game throws hundreds of them at you at once.
EDF has the best dragons.
Just like "roguelikes".
Normies don't want to be considered casual/inferior.
This
They weren't invented before dragons went extinct, so no.
>let's fix dragons, by not including dragons at all
Alicorn has been around forever. It was just rarely used.
>Turn cute girls into dragons
My favourite interpretation of dragons in fantasy is as near-godlike, ancient, hyper intelligent magic users pulling all the fucking strings. So they shouldn't even really be fightable at all unless your character is on the same level.
I mean you can have some lesser wyverns or whatever running around but it's a very cool niche that nothing else really fills. But they've been cheapened by so many games using dragons that whatever, who cares at this point.
The only game that I can think of that does this the way I like it is probably ye olde Shadowruns, but I can't remember if they were even a major part of the game.
