well that was uncalled for

Good. Treasure Hunting apologists should be all hanged.

Well you suck, I think as long as they removed treasure hunting, or mechs, extra playable characters are fine. But you fuckin pricks complained so much that extra characters were COMPLETELY removed.

man i dont even know what the fuck this thread is about. no clue at all.

>next 8 games no longer have playable characters besides Sonic

How is this a bad thing?

Balme Sonic Team for being retarded and not understanding what the actual issue was.

>muh Big the Cat

good riddance desu

>hanged
Ummmmmm...it's hung sweetie

What the fuck is wrong with you? How about some variety for fucks sake? Variety that's been there since Sonic 2. I don't know about you but i'm tired of the lack of options compared to older games. Even Sonic Mania has the main trio.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with my size

Every Sonic game should have at least Tails and Knuvkles playable. If it doesn't, its a shit game.

Variety in modern Sonic means gimmicks no one likes. 2D sections, wisps, werehog, team mechanics, guns, vehicles, treasure hunting.

>can't do variation well in this day and age
>can't even do sonic right
Only if it's a 2D only plane do I trust them, Rush, Advance, Mania

>Sonic 4

Sonic Advance did it right. Each character was unique. I dislike how OCs are playable in Sonic Forces, I mean why not just add Tails, Knuckles, and Amy?

Oh right that.
But that game was fucked from the get go

Because no one likes Sonic's friends remember?

Then who would play second rate Star Fox radio chatter and please the comicfags?

This, its not that hard to simply add them, have you seen the mods for generations? People have added flying and gliding to the knuckles and tails mods, its pretty cool.

This guy

This. They got rid of other characters and spent the last decade trying to rehash nostalgia but instead we just get shit Sonic games now.

>games get rid of the extra playable characters
>steadily improve ever since

Really gathers my Emeralds...

>steadily improve ever since
Lost World.

>Character who uses gadgets and often pairs up with Sonic
Tails would've fit perfectly.

Because all of Sonic's friends are fucking SHIT. None of them are interesting or funny or bring anything new to the table, they're all just different colored animals to bounce jokes off of.

SONIC- Blue Blur, fastest thing alive
Tails- Sonic's good buddy, kid brother, good with tools, shy
Knuckles- Dumb, protective of Emerald, reluctantly helps Sonic
Robotnik- Evil scientist; bumbling but wants to trap animals in robots

Everything's good so far.

Amy - Sonic's unrequited love interest, obsesses over him

Okay we're starting to get a little crowded

Sega doesn't know what to do with the Sonic series. Truth be told there could had been more playable characters in Sonic Mania, and the future Sonic Forces without compromising those games. The Sonic Advance games gave you 5 playable characters, didn't compromise the Genesis gameplay and they were very fast paced. Too bad its only the "Genesis" they are going to be looking at now because "muh nostalgia."

Sonic Mania looks great without doubt and pays homage to the old school sega games. Its a positive step considering how negative Sonic's reputation has gone but I don't want to think that's the future of Sega. If Mario could survive and modernize itself successfully I'm sure Sega can do that as well.

Blaze was a good character.
Deserves her own spinoff series.

What I find fascinating about Sonic is how it's been trying to modernize for almost 19 years now, and it's still having an identity crisis.

...

A bunch of those characters definitely aren't Sonic's friends.

All of those characters have a gimmick because they aren't expected to be fleshed out like in Mario games. Nonetheless, as the "Sonic Advance" games have shown us, different characters can exist and bring something different to the core gameplay without changing the game itself. Sonic's obviously speedy, Knuckles glides, Tails can fly higher, Cream flies farther, and Amy could swing her hammer. I'm sure if they added Blaze, Jet, Espio, Rouge and Vector, they would probably bring there own abilities that would supplement any Sonic platformer.

Look at Sonic Forces, they got very lazy and allow for you to create a DeviantArt tier OC than for them to simply add their existing characters. Then there are two Sonics, why does "Classic Sonic" exist? From a narrative perspective it makes no sense, and from a gameplay perspective, there aren't much differences between them except the styles you play in. Sega pandered to nostalgia fags too hard, they need to start doing something original like Nintendo.

Spotted the retard who never graduated

Anyone besides Sonic and Tales is unwelcome. That goes for that faggot Knuckles as well. Even as a kid I never found HER cool.

>Series that's over 25 years old has had a lot of characters
No shit, it's not like all those characters were all in one game.

This was some bullshit, man. Fans liked Sonic's friends and critics couldn't properly articulate what they actually disliked because they're hacks. Those who could didn't reach Sonic Team, because Sonic Team is also made up of hacks, so they took
>We don't like these major, underdeveloped gameplay deviations
as
>We want these major, underdeveloped gameplay deviations to also be Sonic
Now we've got Forces coming and that will probably be okay, but ultimately a disappointment. We were forgiving of the physics not really working for Classic stages last time because we expected there would be improvements to both the boost and the "new" classic formula in the future. Now we're back with the exact same physics after six years. What? They couldn't tweak things at all? They've been working off of Unleashed assets for nearly a decade.

I'm tired of saying that they've taken a step in the right direction with each decent Sonic game. Most developers would have stopped taking steps at this point and started running the marathon. For having a character all about speed as their mascot, Sonic Team has been moving in slow motion this whole time. I've basically flipped on this issue from wanting to defend modern Sonic to leaning hard on the Classicfag faction.

Now this is shitposting.

no, I was being dead honest. I dislike every single Sonic character except Sonic and Tales and I grew up on SEGA games.

Ayo, fuck you. The Babylon Rogues are great.

>Tales

emberassing

Classic's gameplay is just the 2D sections of modern without boost and homing attack. It's totally transparent.

it's close enough Anthon

I know right. The thing is, what they have to do to make a successful Sonic game is to have good level design, fast paced but content jammed campaigns, mission variety, unlockables, music and character variety. Sonic Mania did this but it wouldn't hurt to add more characters and mission variety. In the future, rather than a retro Sonic, would be cool to see a 2D Sonic animated by Arc Systems. Imagine seeing a Sonic game like that. Would be tight considering how Dragon Ball Fighter Z is turning out to be, except the sprites wouldn't be for a fighter but a platformer. It could work..

Especially since Tails was apparently the one who invented the wispons.

Amy preceeded Tails and Knuckles.

>Amy preceeded Tails
In-universe maybe but CD came out after
Sonic 2 so she was added to the cast after Tails was.

Vector and Mighty came before the main cast.

>forgetting the killbot

Emerl was great and Gemerl should've been playable in Sonic Advance 3

Hell, a sequel to Battle could be aces with the expanded cast.

i'm currently hoping the Hack Suite and the growing Sonic Battle hacking community will spruce interest for another Sonic Battle

I don't get why Sup Forumseddit shits on Adventureshit yet gives boostshit a pass. Literally artificial fun if I ever saw it.

Treasure Hunting and Mech segments were fantastic though you absolute fucking sheep

The issue with Sonic's friends were that Sega rarely includes one or two of them. They always come as a full pack, and each game would add one or two more.

By Sonic 2006 we had Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Rogue, Shadow, Big, Omega, Charmy, Vector, Espio, Silver and Blaze appearing regularly in every new installment. That's fucking ridiculous, especially when the ones who are actually playable had unique levels and gameplay styles that weren't as interesting as the core gameplay. It reached a point where they were overbearing and the games starred Sonic less and less.

All they needed to do was have the core cast of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles appear every game, with the latter two being functionally the same as the 2D games where they're just Sonic playthrough with a few unique tricks that open up new paths. The rest of the friends could be a rotating cast like the Mario series has, where some appear one game and others appear in another. But Sega fluctuates between extremes, so instead of addressing the problem they removed everyone except Sonic himself.

>artificial fun
Artificial criticism, that's not how you actually feel.

Oh yeah totally let's play some co-op Sonic the Hedgehog you can have Tails...

Are you retarded? You type like a 12 year old.

Because the Adventure era was all about world-building and thus the expanding cast came as a part of that.
