I think I saw a interview about someone saying how the Rabbids and the Rayman universe being two different things now. I'm not certain of it.

It's surprising how much they've allowed when you take into account they actually have guns. Obviously not realistic looking one but still, Nintendo is actually giving Ubi some impressive freedom with Mario.
