I don't mind the ugly Gen 3 art as much as I do the "music". The filler is bad as well.
Thank you! I'm so tired of some people here who just shit on older graphics just because they don't like it. Fire Red graphics were okay but I just simply prefer the original's graphics.
...
...
I always liked night-time in gen 2. Somehow the remakes didn't quite catch this cosy feeling.
???????????? But i'd have to say true with SotC and HALO
...
FULLY
MODELED
FERNS
why so much bloom?
For some reason, the right image makes me think of old black and white Japanese monster movies, while the left just seems so generic to me.
...
No generation after 2 got Pokemon animations right either.
I wish VC games on the 3DS would be the same everything just widescreen.
I've noticed that the games that have the better graphics of the two tend to have the worst music of the two.
What the fuck were these things anyway?
Stacks of tires.
>making your gen look generic and ugly just so your RPG can run at 60fps
what did Game Freak mean by this?
Who fucking asked for this? Christ that looks bad.
Dragon Quest 7
barrels
I was so fucked up by the music in Omega Ruby. They fucking changed route 110. That track WAS Gen III Pokémon for me.
Always thought they were marshmallows.
t. Burger
New looks better
>Peach gets dynamic text box in both
>Fawful only gets it in the original
>UGH IT ALL LOOKS BAD IT DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME LE GAME FEEL
It looks better. Bowser isn't some poorly drawn piece of shit and everything has more detail.
The better question would be remakes with improved graphics/artsyle.
bollards
As great as HG/SS was, I fucking despise what they did to Goldenrod's music. It was the best song on the soundtrack besides the Champion Theme, and it so goddamn awful in the remakes.
On the off chance that this isn't a troll, you need to see the originals in motion to really understand what made them so charming. You just can't get 3D models to look that good.
logs
>That GSC music
The nostalgia hurts.
I can't fucking wait for them to release this shit next month.
Poor taste. Now, if we were talking about the Ruby/Sapphire remakes I would agree.
>You just can't get 3D models to look that good.
is this a troll?, they're sprites.
RS vs ORAS is subjective depending on whether or not you like all the horns
I like them and ORAS butchered almost every track with the best tunes being completely original
Tree stumps
>You just can't get 3D models
>3D models
Very subtle. I love how you accused someone of trolling before proceeding to do it yourself. True talent.
The level of detail is inconsistent. For example, the trees have less detail, and the mailbox is no longer tilted even though the fence posts still are.
without a doubt
They were supposed to be larger trees that you couldnt see the top of because of perspective. Either that or fencing.
>3D models
here's your complimentary (You)
I'll also do you a favor and play out the "w-w-well they look similar enough to be 3D models therefore they are" thing so you don't have to
>tfw Emerald will forever be the best way to experience Pokémon Gen 3
...
I think their trees with fences behind them.
I thought they were big crystals/rocks when I was a wee little lad
To this day I don't think I've ever played the "third version" of any of the games. Except for yellow when it came out on the 3ds last year.
GBA and DS Pokemon had shit audio/music. And before anyone accuses me of being a Genwunner or whatever, I don't even like Pokemon that much.
the third version is like the directors cut
>tfw replaying original gold on my hacked 3ds in bed, sipping beer after a nice meal
There is something unbelievably comfy about this
>replay through ORAS
>rival appears right before Route 113 to heal your pokemon despite an old lady being less than 20 steps away in a house who does the exact same thing
did they just think kids were too stupid to go in the one house on the whole damn route?
The final fantasy games
This shit blew my mind when I was a kid. The fact that a game world could keep track of real world time.
>Turns night in the game when it gets dark outside
>special events on certain days of the week
I've figured that after years and years of seeing people on this board talk about Emerald with nothing but praise.
posts
You're right for the most part. Sound quality issue didn't really get resolved until gen 5
I will never be able to see them as anything else, really. The ones you see at the sea routes are buoys, obviously.
what kind of self respecting farmer bails his hay in fucking plastic
>>Turns night in the game when it gets dark outside
>>special events on certain days of the week
Both of those things were so cool as a kid. Had to catch Sunkern in the day time. The bug catching contest. Fucking Lapras. Seeing it in the water blew my mind.
gen3 generally looked ugly as shit even though its graphically superior to the previous games.
its odd.
Best gen: gen 3
>b-but muh horns and water
What's the matter faggot can't swim?
Fuck graphics. I just want to hear the original GSC music now.

Do people really dislike the visuals of FR/LG?
I always felt it perfectly encapsulated what gen 1 would look like.
I wish that 5 & 6 were remade with the 3D models like 3 and 4.
Who doesn't?
you should give them a go if you have time
Gen2 had a really nice color palette and the music composition worked really well with that crappy GB soundchip.
I put more time into Gen1 and 4 but 2 really has a really nice and unique feeling to it.
I actually like the feel for Gen 3, but it didn't work for me in FRLG. Maybe its the music. FRLG feels blander for some reason
I'd still play pokemon if it wasn't for the gay 3d look
The lighting tweaks for WWHD ruin so much for me. Such a shame.
I remember people laughing at me for thinking so at the time of FF3 & FF4 DS release, but I think that low poly chibi look is really nice.
You Hoennbabies don't deserve the OR/AS arrangements.
It needs it be wrapped so that it ferments.
I agree 100%. Crash 1 and 3 were a step up graphically imo, but they fucked up real bad with Crash 2. It was literally unity-tier shit
Pretty much. FRLG is just Kanto without the nostalgia goggles: bland and boring.
Emerald in particular? If I ever stop being lazy I'll see if my shitty ass tablet can run GBA emulation and give it a playthrough maybe.
I just gotta find the time since there's so much shit I gotta beat before late Sept and October.
Fable. It's a shame because I always wanted them to do a remake.
Had no problems with it when I played it back in the day. Recently I gave Fire Red a replay and the only thing that really stood out as being completely garbage was the sound.
Had to find me a romhack, which is not usually my thing, that restored music back to the original
emerald combine ruby and sapphire's stories and adds a bit more including more postgame
can't you just pile it in a silo for that
After the run button was introduced in 3rd gen I never went back to the original games. Hell I won't even play my copy of Silver anymore since Soul Silver has running.
Part of what made me love Superstar Saga's style was how exaggerated everything was from the expressions to the character design. I was pretty disappointed that the Bean Bean enemies were sterilized in terms of design.
Crystalline rocks
spelunky. love the 16 bit feel. comfier.
max comfy
There's like a couple tracks in ORAS that sound anywhere near as ambitious as the previous remake soundtracks, and many tracks outright scrap parts of the original compositions and sound way flatter as a result. The Marine Museum is on the better part of the scale.
Then you have shit like this.
youtube.com
Who had the bright idea of butchering the part after 0:40?
The only thing worse in HD is bloom from the sun, which sucks because the new graphics are flawless besides that.
I think the newer one looks better in still, low-res screenshots like this, but the older one is much better in motion because the sprite animations are fantastic.
fuck the FF5 remake
Pylons
>but the older one is much better in motion
>new one literally has better spritework
The point of baling hay is to sell it to other people. You can load all those bales on a truck and send it to someone else. Putting it in a silo is only good if you plan on using it yourself.
True blog;
>sometimes would hide in the woods to skip school in Jr. High instead of wait at the bus-stop
>had to wait an hour so for everyone to go to work before going back home
>used to play my Pokemon Crystal game and use the internal clock to tell the time since I didnt have a watch and this was like the 90s before phones
Thank god for that game.
Dunno, while I am largely annoyed by mindless genwunners, I do like the general down to earth feel of Kanto. It all seems rather believable, and thus somewhat suitable to a childhood adventure.
I'm sorta rambling. But let me try to make an actual point: Kanto, more than any other region, seems to be designed to be an adventure game map. Sure, it is not entirely non-linear, but you get to make some choices where to go next at certain points, and you have to progress the game by exploring, atleast more than in other games of the series. Remember how you have to go out of your way to find HM Surf and Strenght, despite them being crucial to completing the game? In Kanto, HMs felt more like powerups in a Metroid game. In most other regions there would be a roadblock, and then the game would hand you the key to that roadblock in the form of an HM, so the HM wasn't rewarding to find.
This isn't anything amazing in Kanto, but it is a nice touch, and of all the regions, I feel Kanto has the most amount of "game design".
You can't say anything good about SSS+BM.
I don't even want that shit.
ORAS was the disappointment of a lifetime.
i think the remake will be better since they're removing tutorials and they seem to be fixing issues the original had. they're even separating the advanced versions of the bros. attacks and making them their own attacks that perform differently which is great.
actually I'm a bit off, it wasn't the 90s it was like 2000 and it was my Gold version.
