>Metallic Madness just before the final level, which has essentially the same theme of massive metal factory
Why was this allowed?
Metallic Madness just before the final level, which has essentially the same theme of massive metal factory
Because Titanic Monarch is clearly a Castle/Fortress not a factory.
>Metallic Madness
>Inside factory
>Titanic Monarch
>Outside the factory viewing the industrial complex that powered it
Death Egg (3&K)>Titanic Monarch>Metropolis>Metallic Madness>Scrap Brain
>those fucking circular purple energy fields
how the FUCK do you figure out how to work those things?
Metallic madness is my favorite mania zone
By not being stupid
Did you not play Sonic 3?
>Mania hits PC
>suddenly thread after thread of whinging
hmm
>The Act 2 bossfight
>The miniature versions of Eggman's past creations and the Amy doll
Cute
>hardest part of the level is finishing in time
fug, Titanic Monarch is kinda killing my motivation to finish the game
>The miniature versions of Eggman's past creations and the Amy doll
I loved this but metallic madness has always been one of the most tedious levels in the old games and that's a fact. I just don't feel the level placement was right.
It is shockingly good.
>can't use my dualshock 4
I can't be the only one with this issue right?
by having prior knowledge thanks to the bonus stage in 3&K.
for the mania, by the mania
Even if you time out you just lose a life and go back to a checkpoint. So what.
You'll never even come close to timing out on replays anyway.
I'm playing fine with my DS3. Did you just plug it in?
I got to the end in 8 minutes the first time through, it's not that bad
I unlocked peel out and the sonic 3 invincibility move, but can't figure out how to use them. Do I have to start a new game?
The best thing about Metallic Madness is the fact that before the final zone, you have a surprisingly upbeat zone in a base with uplifting music, which prepares you for more serious shit later. Its pretty awesome and probably the main reason I ended up fully enjoying the Mania experience.
I can use the DS4 when streaming from my XBONE. It works really fucking well.
>prior knowledge thanks to the bonus stage in 3&K
oh that makes some sense then. I always used to die instantly whenever I got that bonus stage and I never found out what I was supposed to do.
I thought Titanic Monarch was a giant Egg-Robo/Heavy King (hence the name). The first act has you on the scaffolding, the second act you're traversing the giant robots innards
>beat Titanic Monarch
>nice, now to the final boss
>wait what
Only available in no save mode
Hover over no save in the save menu and the secrets menu promt will pop up
>tfw finally figured out how to properly do the special stages
Felt like a retard during my first playthrough. Couldn't get more than two emeralds.
>Go to stardust on little planet
> end up in hydrawcity somehow after
>go back to little planet for some reason instead of just continuing after stardust
Someone explain this my autism is flairing
left or right until you found in orbit that lines with the vector you wanna travel and press jump when sonic is moving towards your destination
I hated Metallic Madness and Stardust Speedway. Sonic CD really is a weak point in the series.
Stardust is just a clusterfuck of springs and chutes, with no real level design to hold any of that shit together. It's just floating.
Compare and contrast things like Flying Battery, Lava Reef and Hydrocity. The lower areas have distinct feel to the higher areas. Level design done right!
Metalic Madness was just technoshit everywhere, without reason or rhyme. Like metropolis. Like Scrap Brain. Death Egg had at least some more open spacey-type areas.
>Metallic Madness Act 1's BGM is Sonic rapping against Eggman
>Metallic Madness Act 2's BGM is Eggman rapping against Sonic
Someone post the lyrics for both
For any zone transition that isn't in there, you can pretty much just explain it away with "the Phantom Ruby did it". It's not great and it's annoying that there are missing transitions but it's the cleanest explanation you're gonna get.
I hear denuvo can cause problems with the game but I've honestly had no problems so far.
use the dev menu to access them, that way you can play them over and over again.
In settings.ini, add the following line:
devMenu=1
in the [Game] section. Then when the game starts, press esc. Have fun, and git gud
Thank fuck someone feels the same way.
Fuck metallic madness, seriously. They didn't that level in this game.
meant for
*need that
I can't play the fucking game in offline. That's the only reason I got it for my laptop.
is that a denuvo feature though?
Don't know the Act 1 rap, but the Act 2 rap goes something like this:
>Mad and evil doctor with a rad genius and bad minions;
>To help enslave the planet, don't you wanna be 'em?;
>I'm batting with them like you, like you've never seen;
>I'm the greatest fighters' villain that has ever been on your screen;
>I'm iconic, with my bionic and electronic style;
>I'll dynamically smash the hedgehog they call Sonic;
>I'm fluid and metallic, my moustache of fire;
>Welcome to the new world of nightmares and wire
Fuck me I can't read.
There's actually a transition from Lava Reef zone to Metallic Mandess zone that only Knuckles has for some reason. He jumps onto one of those red orb transporters from Sky Sanctuary Zone that beams him onto the Little Planet. No idea why they couldn't program this same scene for Sonic and Tails.
By being over 5 years old
You can see Little Planet in the background of lava reef 2
It can be assumed you just ran up the chain
Stardust Speedway act 1 has the best vibe though. that music
>Angel Island is only a little cutscene
>instead have Green Hill again
In Lava Reef Act 2, you see a sort of rocket being constructed in the background. If you use debug mode in the Hidden Palace area, you can find all sorts of oddities, including a duplicate Emerald Shrine, the Doomsday mural (albeit with garbled tiles) but interestingly enough if you use debug to go above the Heavy Rider boss arena, there are tiles for the top part of a rocket (this time in the foreground, not the background like in Lava Reef Act 2).
Almost certainly something got cut here. Sonic and Tails were probably going to take a rocket to Little Planet, I don't know. Maybe it was even going to be a stage at some point.
Tee Lopes hinted in his stream last night that the last line is "Welcome to the new world of Eggman Empire"
>tfw we could have got Angel Island and a Sonic MegaMix zone instead of Green Hill and Chemical Plant again
Sure, I'll agree there.
There may also just in general be a point to include some of the bizzare floating maze nonsense levels to cover all the bases.
If everything in Mania was what I liked then we'd have fans of floating nonsense complaining that they just copy-pasted S3&K.
As a first time player, whats the best way of Finding Special Stage Rings? I want my extra level!
Actually I suppose in a way it's to cover the level types.
Metallic Madness has level elements from Scrap Brain, Metropolis - presumably anyway. I think cogs from Metropolis are in Titanic Monarch.
Did the original Metallic Madness have the background and shrinking? I don't remember that stuff.
Exploring as Tails. Otherwise just grind GHZ when you complete your first playthrough
It had shrinking but not the background hopping.
Hold it, I'll post the best theme:
Replaying it on Steam. Did they make the UFOs slower? I didn't even need mach 3 for some of them. I like that they put the super transformation on a different button now though.
>no wacky workbench
>first playthrough
>finish Green Hill with 3 emeralds
>finish the game with 4 emeralds
>was disappointed before release because more old levels than new levels
>turns out remixed levels are more fun than new levels
Exploration and debug mode
>sonic playthough
>get all 7 by OOZ 2
>knock knock it's knuckles
>get all 7 by the end of press garden
p r a c t i c e
>turns out remixed levels are more fun than new levels
It's kind of hard to judge when we only got 4 new ones, so most of the creativity went to the old ones anyway
>Metalic Madness was just technoshit everywhere, without reason or rhyme
But at least it has one of the best level themes in the history of the series.
i had no problem the first runthrough but going back as super sonic i lost 9 lives total, 3 game overs. 3 seperate instances designed to crush you when running at top speed
Classic Eggman is the best in this. It's really endearing how mischievous, egocentric and plain fun-loving he is.
>tfw finally got good enough to get them all by the end of act 2 of Chemical Plant
The remixed levels mix so much tropes they're basically best-ofs, shit's great
>always found lava reef boring
>mania mixes it with fucking quartz quadrant
The quickest special ring for postgame emerald collection, in my experience, is in Oil Ocean.
Below the first fire shield is a hidden drop shaft to the oil, with there being fans just up ahead to float you up to the ring. Takes just 20 seconds to reach.
Why would they need a rocket
CDs intro shows sonic can just run up the chains to it
I wanted Quartz Quadrant.
I was getting my ass kicked by the 5th special stage, just now managed to beat it after grinding in Green Hill. I need to get gud
Whenever you get lunched by a ramp, spring or bridge somewhere - drop down and go left.
I know in Flying Battery if you go to the bottom of the stage after trash they have this. Also in Chemical Plant Act 2 after I think you get richochetted of bouncy ground.
There is actually lots of level design that gets skipped and only is seen if you purposefully fuck up every spring jump and shit and fall into every pit.
Act 1 Oil Ocean, only a minute into the level is a fire shield ontop of a hole that leads to a ring.
Other places for Rings, in act 2 of Press Garden has two or so rings at the top of the level in spires. Easy for Knuckles and Tails. Likewise act 2 of Stardust towards the top is a section where you get sprung through a tube at the very top of the level and have one second to jump off it into a Ring. Otherwise door locks behind you, but you can go back under and around.
this show was fucking shit Lol.
DOn't mind me, just posting the best track
youtube.com
>mfw I had four lives and lost three in a row at the same check point that started me at 9:15
Yeah second Knux playthrough for me had me Super by Press Garden. But then the game is fuckin' annoying because knuckles HAS to fucking climb shit and you are always fuckin going super.
I don't know why they NEED a rocket, but it certainly seems odd that Sonic and Tails don't get a transition while Knuckles does, yet there's unused Rocket stuff in the Heavy Rider boss arena that you would never see in normal gameplay.
Then again, there's a lot of suspect stuff near the end of the game. Lava Reef and Hidden Palace hold most of this stuff, but there's also other oddities like Egg Reverie having unused slope tiles, the unusual amount of effort that went into the final boss heavies (as if they were supposed to be their own bosses), or of course the plethora of missing zone transitions.
>2018
>want to play some Sonic Mania
>"Steam user must be logged in to play this game"
>I am logged in
>Find out that Sega and Denuvo are both bankrupt
>60$ well spent
Just beat the game
On Easy Mode.
Did this myself. I wonder what possible part of the level exists above that Fire Shield, if you don't go down the hole - for I'll never know.
No.
Death Egg > Scrap Brain > Metropolis > Metallic Madness
Knuckles's jump is what hampers his playthrough. It is so shit.
>Oil Ocean with Sandopolis mechanics
>it's actually really fucking good
taxman knows how to turn shit into gold.
>has Sonic trapped finally at the end of chemical plant
>can do whatever he wants to him
>challenges him to a game of Puyo which he himself sucks at and also strapped himself to a device that will explode if he loses.
thank fuck classic Eggman is so fun in this game. people tend to overlook him when discussing the eggman hierarchy
Just beat it.
How do you get the "Try for a 3 chain combo" achievement?
metallic madness act 2 music is fucking jamming
>eggocentric
3 chain combo on the Chemical Plant act 2 boss
Sandopolis > Oil Ocean
It's nessecary though for diverging paths and gameplay. Otherwise Sonic has nothing on the others.
This game would make more sense if Knux and Tails couldn't spindash.
Sonic speeds up and dashes up a ramp.
Tails flies up.
Knuckles climbs up.
How would you fix Hydropolis?
puyo puyo
The octopus boss is literally the worst thing ever.
>but the spider
THE OCTOPUS BOSS IS LITERALLY THE WORST THING EVER.
I'd rather go through Labyrinth than Sandopolis act 2 again
I'd make it different. Even the music is practically the same.
It doesn't need fixing.
Spider and octopus are both great.
Because you're a pleb. Sandopolis act 2 is one of the most creative parts of 3&K.
>muh flawless sonic mania
Oh man, I forgot about that. I was wondering how he'd actually be defeated in that one. Surely the machine was rigged, or him losing would make the whole thing backfire in some unexpected way? Nope, he actually made a 100% legit Puyo machine.
Why is that?
I struggled with a lot of bosses on the first playthrough and hated them all, but knowing their gimmick and when they are or are not arbitrarily invulnerable helps ease the pain.
But both plays so far I've just jumped on his shit and killed in without issue.
