Yes, despite what contrarians would have you believe it is without a doubt one of the best and most ambitious entries in the franchise that is still appreciable today. Unless you have a serious aversion to low-poly graphics, it's a must play.
Also 'Aeris dies' isn't really that big of a spoiler since there's still quite a lot that happens afterwords, and the scene will still retain its impact regardless of whether you know it's coming or not.

Tifa is easily the best and it's not even a hard choice. Yuffie would be cute if she wasn't a cunt.

One thing I liked about the game is how often it plays with tropes. Cloud is easily just "the hero with amnesia" but the game uses that for more than just "we gotta recover his memories." It's used to make Cloud an unreliable narrator which is always great when its done well. It's used to illustrate the power Sephiroth has over his mind and body.

Also despite being the hero Cloud isn't very heroic, at least at the beginning. He's a fucking asshole. And so is Barrett. Except the both develop and change as time passes. Which is actually a lot to ask out of a JRPG.

Some 16 year old little cunt already exploring the world on her own, stealing materia wherever possible, and she agrees to stay on with you guys while you battle a ridiculously powerful alien invader and her demigod son. Everyone else is at least older, more seasoned, and/or has a personal stake in it (unlike her). But Yuffie still goes along with you.

Also her ultimate weapon is really damn good, especially in a low level run.

Wrong weapon, Yuffie's weapon doesn't need that shit to make it good. Her weapon scales its attack power based on opponent level and lets you do full attack damage with morph. So yeah it's great in a regular run and fantastic in a low level run, where its special ultimate weapon bonus will outshine all other weapons outside of Vincent bug abuse. You're thinking of Barret's weapon I think.
