>Start game.
>Fuck. This should be fun.
>Main character has a tail.

Dropped.

...

How's it even possible to impress all 100?
Do you like have to use different secret inputs, not the ones they're showing on the screen for some more epic battle effects? Or do you just have to react faster?

>Start playing the steam release because I've not played in 5 odd years
>Play on a steam controller
>Switch X and O because why fucking not
>Can only get 40 nobles despite getting every button press
>"Wow, you must have to be amazing to get all 100!"
>My Mrs tells me later that I was pressing the wrong button the entire time because I've swapped some round

Godammit

You want this flute don't you?

...

get good

I bet you hate dragon ball too, you faggot.

Just beat VII as my first FF game, is this a good follow-up? It's more of a fantasy setting, right?

>emulated
savescumming doesn't count fag

VII was very different from the previous FF games by the time it came out, in more ways than one.
IX is more of a quintessential FF game, combining all of the classic fantasy FF themes in a single game.

This game is more-or-less entirely high fantasy.

Remind me on how this this more fun and less tedious than Drawing in FFVIII?

And yes I'm perfectly aware you don't have to do either of these.

Except you do have to draw, while stealing is optional.
And no, forced mini-game bullshit is not a better alternative.

You don't have to do either of them.

Quickest way to get magic in 8 is to refine. Only drawing GFs is needed really.

You have to do the inputs really fast. I've gotten it once.

It's been like 10 years since I played 8, wtf was refining?

Also, did it have steal? Was it useful at all?

Does NTSC/PAL version make a difference? I've heard Excalibur II was impossible on PAL.

ff9 was meh. Boring and a chore to play, it did nothing new and just felt like a tiresome retread to anyone who had actually played previous games.

>Being like 6 yrs old
>Watching my brother play on PS1 FF9
>I could watch him hours and hours, better than my imagination and any fable
>we don't know english but he translates using a translator book
>it was pirated and CD2 didn't work.

The feels, I might buy the remastered game, i just don't want to grind...

I always wondered who the hell would attempt this without emulation. I mean, fuck up a little bit and it could be hours of your life wasted just to try again?

>Except you do have to draw
Refining the useless crap in your inventory to magic is a thing. The only times you should ever use the draw command is to Draw those 5 or 4 GFs from bosses.

Mug was very useful. GFs came with abilities that let you turn an item into a bunch of spells. You can turn tents into curaga for example. I spent a total of about 5 minutes drawing in my entire last playthrough and most of that was just GFs.

The most overrated final fantasy ever

If you don't want any of the special shit, it doesn't require any grinding if you go through the story alone.

You can refine items and cards into spells, getting the best spells could be done by grabbing some items, I just played through and maybe drew a few times other than GFs.

FF8 had Mug, which was essential for getting the above items.

its the steam version
getting 100 really isnt hard, because its also down to how quickly you input the keypresses, as long as youre not a dribbler you should be getting it near enough every time

You transmute various materials into another one. You can use this to get OP magic.

Mug exists in FFVIII. It's useful for beginners.

Is this easier on the PC version?
I got 100 out of 100 first go

Why do people have so many issues with the fencing part, it's easy.

Most GFs could learn a menu skill that lets you refine items into better items, or magic. For example:
>Get Siren
>Teach Siren Life-Mag Refine
>Buy a few tents/cottages at the pet shop in Timber
>Refine them into Curaga before you're halfway through Disc 1
>Walk around with 2k HP at Lv7

Diablo could learn Mug, which was only useful in very select circumstances. Refining Triple Triad cards was much easier.

I don't think NTSC/PAL matters much for the noble minigame. Might be slightly easier on some versions. Excalibur 2 is not that hard even on PAL it's the 100% game with Excalibur 2 that is pretty much impossible.

Let me put it this way, FFIX is already a very slow paced game (and I'm not only talking about the battles here) and the PAL version makes it even slower. PAL version of FFIX is worthless and should be avoided by all costs.

As for Excalibur II it is just barely possible but requires exploits like opening the disc tray at correct moments to skip FMVs.

Man, I was so young when I played 8 the first time, I couldn't really get anything smart done with the junctioning, and ultimecia's castle was a horrid pain.
I don't remember anything of the plot, except all the dumb shit that get's reposted all the time.

Is the game worth another go now that I can actually use the mechanics to my advantage?

Can you still get Excalibur 2 by reaching 100 hours on Steam? I know that was possible on PSX.

sorry I meant overflowing the clock not 100 hours

>100 hours
It's like 2 years. And it probably works on Steam.

Yes, I replayed it recently and it was great.

However, I liked it as a kid as well and it's one of my favourites.

For how long it would take to overflow, it would literally be quicker to start over and try again. Or use a cheat to add it in.

Terrible game, really shows the state of Sup Forums that it's actually praised here. The average age of posters here has gotten so low that most people actually started with IX, which is why they look upon it so favorably even though it was the worst PSX Final Fantasy and is a bottom-tier entry in the series as a whole.

Seriously, what a blunder of a game.

Final Fantasy IX is the most mediocre FF game.

PROVE ME WRONG

What did you dislike about FF9?

What's so bad about IX?
And how did VII and VIII do it better?

I think I believe you until the last sentence.

I could but you'll just ignore it and keep on going with your claim

In my near decade of being here, the opinion of FFIX has gone down. People now give it shit for some of its flaws, whereas old Sup Forums used to jack it off as the best PSX Final Fantasy.

If your favorite FF game is anything later than V then you have no fucking right to talk.

Why am I replying to this anyway, you're probably a troll.

Did they change this is the PC version? It only took me like 20 minutes to get it perfect on PC whereas I remember having a lot more trouble with it when I played it on PS3.

Try me. And before you state that I hate FFIX my overall view about FFIX is very similar to this article's:
socksmakepeoplesexy.net/index.php?a=ff09

tl;dr version: FFIX is a good but somewhat failed attempt to combine the best aspects of older and more modern FF titles that produced a very average FF game that has very little to offer as far as originality is concerned.

You're not wrong.

>socksmakepeoplesexy.net/index.php?a=ff09
Oh god, not that pretentious fuck again.

I really hate FF9's world map. 2 of the 4 continents are basically empty outside of 1 place.

Your loss. Zidane is probably the best final fantasy protagonist

>9 yrs old
>Third worlder
>Flashed PSX
>Pirated games sold at a park were 1$ a game
>Want FFIX
>Dad won't buy it
>"It's 4 discs user, why don't you get 4 whole games instead?"
>Save enough to buy the game on my own
>Play it
>Never look back

To this day, my favorite RPG and all time fav game. Still salty about the time my little brother erased my save data that I was trying to 100% This happened 17 yeaes ago. He used the memory card blocks to save some shittu fifa tournament

FFIX a best!

>I've heard Excalibur II was impossible on PAL.
It's technically possible just a bit harder than the NTSC version.

Final Fantasy 9 frames per second

>jumprope minigame

Glad they put this at the very fucking beginning of the game so I spend hours on it because I WANT THE ITEM BEFORE PROGRESSING

Someone should have released a "romhack" to remove both the transition and pointless intro to every single battle

The rest of the game is fine

>PAL
>impossible
Why do people propagate this myth?

You can do it again later on in the game. It's the Hippaul race you can miss.

All the Playstation FF games have shit framerates though

Well the games aren't tied together so you can really go with any game. I'm not going to tell you to avoid any, better that you form your own opinions instead regurgitating memes.

Probably for the same reason people keep posting idiotic fan-theories like Iifa Tree = Necron or any of the FFVIII ones as truth?

PAL runs at 25 fps just like most other pal games did back in the game because of lazy devs.

Legit possible. Friend of mine completed FFIX 12 times in a row when we were still teenagers. He managed to do it on a PAL version and showed me, no weird cheat devices, nothing. I was convinced as well because to be fair, he was a machine at this game. If meth didn't take his soul at this point he might have turned into one of those speedrunners.
