Well the answer is is that it becomes harder to plan actual strategic battles when you have an 1000+ chapter series.

Naruto chuunin exams and the subsequent powerlevel nonsense reminds me of WoW ulduar and how nothing came close to its quality afterwards.
Both took a lot of effort from the creator and they realize theres much less work intensive approaches they could take in the future.
If anybody is that serious about watching Shippuden, don't. Read it instead. The pacing in the anime is fucking garbage. Especially at the start.

Never heard a truer statement on this series. Fuck, why didnt they just focus on sage mode? The wait time to power up was actually intense.
I miss when ninja tools were effectively used in Naruto. Now it's all about bloodline traits and eye jutsus.
Also it's a shame that the show treated Rock Lee like shit. He was easily the best character on the show that actually tried but all his effort got shat on by bloodlines and gimmicks. Also Guy came very close to killing Madara through sheer physical prowess alone, but once again bloodlines ruin everything. Now Guy is a cripple for life, never got laid or a gf, and people barely acknowledge what he did.
How would you make Shikimaru work? Literally every arena would have to be perfectly designed to balance his one shotting. How would you do clone stuff which isn't just a swarm attack? - you can't just ask the player to manipulate that many bodies. Even in a turn based game the number of inputs would slow things to a crawl. Gaara's whole thing is that his spirit auto blocks attacks - that's not fun to play as. Neji's vision skills just don't translate into something you could actually use.
tl;dr the skills are fun but they aren't designed for a videogame

I don't think Naruto's world is built well. It is barely explained how technology is integrated into the world. The characters are using walkie-talkies but mangaka never elaborates on it and it never gets anywhere. DBZ level power ups was just the easiest way to go.
Nobody won in the Sasuke vs Naruto fight yet they still got replacement arms.
The final arc had one good redeeming moment, and that was Might Guy opening all the gates.

This is technically a win. Might Guy crippled himself in what amounted to a really good light show. Nothing was settled, and problems were made worse. No limbs for him.
Guy beating Madara would have actually been the best possibly outcome for that arc. You can still have the stupid alien bloodline garbage, have Naruto and Sasuke fight one last time and finish the Obito vs Kakashi. But having Guy finish off Madara would have been incredible. To have a villain who is so pumped up on magical bloodlines, tail powered demons and kooky crazy eyeballs finally get put down not by somebody with the same bullshit power ups, but by a guy who wasn't good at most ninja skills so he devoted his entire life to the one aspect he was good at. Beating the shit out of people through force.
Would of left a nice message to other ninja kids that you can do anything as long as you're determined and train very hard. Inherited skills be damned.
But of course that's not what happened.

I would've been fine with Guy losing if the characters at least gave him the proper respect he deserves. I ranted about this on Sup Forums recently, basically all the episodes start with a long ass 5 minute recap of the last episode, and have 6-7 minutes of flashbacks using clips directly ripped from previous episodes sprinkled throughout. Thats half the episode dedicated to shit you've already seen. it was around the chunin exams that they started to actually make new clips for the flashbacks but the recaps were still a bit too long in the first say half of that arc. And dont forget the god damn recap episode in the middle of the chunin exams, just before the forest exam.

That's why it's better to just read the manga. They don't waste your time with filler or flashback recaps.

This Only Pain fight worth is vs Jiraya, after that skip to the war for Kabuto and then Madara vs Guy and then the last fight if you actually enjoyed all of this and want a bit of closure.
