How excited are you for true horror kino?

My expectations are tempered, but I like the idea that they're actually having more fun with the premise rather than just having another mismatched batch of horror set-pieces.
I don't trust nu-male developers
>nu-male developers
How is this game made by nu-male developers?
As long as this game doesn't get transformed into another Amnesia/Alien/Outlast clone like every other horror game of the past decade, I'm fine with it.
>he doesn't know the new dev team is a bunch of bearded betas
isn't it the RE4 developer surrounding himself by a bunch of American nu-males?
The head director of the game, who you all say is an "American nu-male", was also the director of the DLC expansions for the original game, which were some of the best parts of the entire package. The story wasn't cucked, either (unless you consider having to play as Kidman as cucked).
Evil Within 1 did have a plot, but its just that most of it was hidden behind journal entries and occasional details in the environment.
fix the aiming please
I know, and the story was great, but it had a very sloppy narrative. I loved the original game, and it's one of my favorite games ever, but the story presentation really needed some work.
Cautiously optimistic. As long as it's no more flawed than the first game I'll enjoy it. The new direction looks way more inspired at least.
Looking forward to it
>I know, and the story was great, but it had a very sloppy narrative.
I thought that was kind of the point. You're in a world full of cliche horror movie and game tropes because you're trapped in a nightmare
I don't want to sound like I'm shilling for the game, because I thought it was mediocre.
You're not shilling the game any more than I am (am OP and first game is one of my top 5 favorites ever).
I'm saying that just going from place to place with no real direction til the final 4 levels was a little janky. Having Sebastian seemingly know more about what was going on than the player was janky, as well.
The second game is keeping the random horror encounters - one side building starts a new random encounter with another Japanese horror girl who can clip through doors - but the overarching story will have more emotion and character growth, and will actually explain the primary plot more, without the need for little notes.
Nice that they're giving Sebastian some emotional investment this time around looking for a family member, but it's kind of odd, considering that I don't remember him mentioning his family at all outside of newspaper articles about his wife's supposed death.
When does it come out?
I kind of wish The Evil Within kept to the supernatural-horror rumors surrounding it. A detective and his partner go to investigate spooky thing with other police, then they find themselves trapped in a horror nightmare. It was almost like Silent Hill.
This dive into your dreams and others dreams, mind fuse and try to reject each other, psychic powers, super genius shit is too much for me.

It kind of undermines the potential cosmic horror angle considering that it's all basically a simulation, but I really like horror settings like this.
Art direction for the games is amazing.
>Slower pacing
Are you kidding me? TeW1 was fuckin' sloooooooooooooooooooooooooow.
Its problem wasn't the speed of pacing, it was the sheer difference of all the set pieces. Being in Ruvik's Mind was no excuse for the illogical tone of all the pieces. Once you pass the village and hit the castle and now you're blasting fools like it's a Resident Evil Mercenaries stage, things were tone-deaf. Switching back to spooky wire-mesh fence cave with Laura creeping around made it seem alright but then oop nope you're running around a cemetary maze instead fighting a big dog thing and then lots of dudes including a big huge guy who's kind of a mini boss.
And let's not forget the end sequence, oh lord. I just really hope TeW2 is more consistent in where it wants to go, if it wants to get more actiony towards the later segments - sure - but I hope it stays consistent instead of being all over the place.

losing our minds losing our mind losing our minds
>Read all the notes and journal entries later. >Figure out the symbolism behind this.
>Realize that Ruviks ultimate plan was to copy himself onto Leslie.
I'm angry about having to wait another 2 months but other than that I am super eager to play this.
>an actual story
This is the only one I'll call 'Not True' on. The first game HAD a story but you were trapped in the mind of a lunatic who had merged and assimilated nothing but the insane, if it wasn't chaos then they weren't that nutty to begging with. The story is chaotic because Seb was pretty much engulfed in chaos. They tell you what happens, you can piece together an understanding of what the story is but it takes a bit more effort because of the abstract nature of the world.
One of the reasons I love this game so much is that every level feels like a different horror movie. I'm a huge fan of Italian, Asian, American, etc horror so it was cool seeing so many styles rather than just one.
It's the only game to actually give me nightmares.
Don't forget the giant killer fish monster in the level where you cant touch the water, or the rail shooter sequence with the giant fat spider thing chasing your bus.
The game felt, to me, like the nightmare of a guy who watches way too many movies. Especially with all the movie posters on walls everywhere in the city.
This would have made sense, except Laura appears to have died in the barn fire in fucking 1930, the villagers all have pitchforks
>>improved performance
That's all it really needed to get me on board. To bad Sebastian's old voice actor is gone.
This is Leslie. She's a girl (male)
Say something nice to her
>less linearity
I take exception. Why is it that people act like having a linear game is a bad thing? Linear and none linear are neither good nor bad, they are just aspects of the game. It's like saying first person's bad. No, the fuck it ain't. It's just a trait.
Not every game has to be an open world sandbox.
>only people with autism can survive
I want this meme to end
Where the fuck is the collectors editions
He is... Compatible.
>improved performance and visuals thanks to a new engine
I heard that the original game was going to be a PS3/360 title but they switch it up to next gen half way when they got the dev kits for the new systems. Mikami mentioned on an interview how pissed he was he had to make the game twice, or something like that.
>tightened controls
How do you know? Did you play the demo? I wanna play the demo.
Some people want a horror game with high replay value, that doesn't resort to a half-assed multiplayer mode slapped on.
eg: Dead Space multiplayer, resident evil raid mode, etc
It's supposed to be like Silent Hill. You could explore in that game, but it wasn't open world.
The first game was literally a corridor simulator. I love linear games more than anything, but TEW did it a bit too much.
Have the enemy designs gotten more creative? The majority of them in evil within were just generic gray humans.
Not a fan of the fact they're bringing Sebastian back.
Definitely not a fan of YOUR DAUGHTER IS STILL OUT THERE storyline.
And the pacing was literally the absolute best aspect of the first game, the first game was so unpredictable, as someone who's been playing games for 20 years it somehow always ended up surprising me with a wild new setpiece or completely against type design choice.
also: western devs are fucking shit unless they're modders
Based on trailers, we have spooky Japanese horror girls, massive eyes in the sky, giant tendrils, massive crab things, a multi-legged ballerina with a camera for a face, and more.
Grey humans are still in the game, though. They're the fodder enemies.
Laura is back, too.
>The first game had its issues, but this seems to be fixing nearly every issue.
Fool me once it is your fault, fool me twice it's mine. I'm not touching that radioactive piece of shit, not even with a condom.
Sebastian is a champion though
I just felt like his story was done. Could have had someone new, could have been Kidman, hell I would've liked to play as Joseph.
His story wasn't over once we knew his wife was an operative in Mobius, and his daughter's death was caused by them (this was confirmed in the first game, so the sequel makes sense)
>Resident evil 4
>have cool coat
>lose it instantly
>The Evil Within
>have cool coat
>lose it instantly
if this motherfucker does it one more time
not if it means chris chan could get a cameo
I'm not.
Liked the first one and played through did Akumu and all collectibles, but I'll probably pick this up on sale.
Is horror gaming saved?

I'm hoping the game doesn't get any more open than chapters 2, 3, early 4 or 9 myself.
So are there going to be multiple levels inside of the minds of different crazy people now, à la Psychonauts?
>jumpscares
Not yet
>>an actual story
>but it had a very sloppy narrative
talk shit, get called out for it, muh narrative. TEW having a bad story is the most pleb meme there is.
Agreed. I loved the look of the first one.
>being this much of a pleb fedora
kys
>talk shit, get called out for it
>said "the story was great"
I loved the story, but lets not pretend it was told as well as it should've been
Jump scares are the lowest of the low when it comes to horror.
There is a reason why Silent Hill 1-3 are the best horror games and have little to no jump scares.
Hell those games even alert you when danger is around even if you can't see it and they still manage to be scary.
I like TEW but it aint saving the genre
>it's not a jump scare if your radio starts going crazy for no reason instead of the monster jumping out
it's a second-degree jump scare lol
The radio isnt even startling.
Played the first game religiously. I can say that I love it despite the myriad of issues people heap at its feet. TEW 2 has me pretty excited but I'm pretty disappointed about the voice actor changes. That's one thing that always takes away from characters for me.
Regardless, the game looks incredibly promising in terms of both gameplay and its environs/enemies. Additionally, I'm excited that it gives us a chance to play as Seb again and see how his story moves forward.
the spider female monster or whatever was weird as fuck
I wish it didn't try so hard to be scary. lakes of blood? come on. I just want a fun adventure game with some horror elements/aesthetics. those type games are extremely rare. I think that's why re4 was so successful. there's really not much like it.
>I wish it didn't try so hard to be scary. lakes of blood? come on.
Silent Hill did it and all of you like that.
>tries too hard to be scary
It takes things to the extreme to mimic a nightmare. Things like excessive gore and guys wearing porcelain masks are meant to be unnerving, not outright scary. The only truly scary thing in the game is encountering Shade in KURAYAMI mode.
>voice actor changes
Really? Who'd they change?
we have enough of that kind of horror. why do people consider gallons of blood to be scary? never understood it. wasn't scary in the shining, it's not scary here.
I'm excited as hell. I think I might even preorder.
Different user, I remember plenty of rooms that looked like someone had recently exploded inside of it, but I don't recall any actual lakes of blood.
So far we know they changed Seb and Kidman's VAs.
Hey, the Light Woman enemy is legit scary though
Shame. Any reason given?
She is, user. She is. It's made even better when you realize she's just a distorted version of Kidman.
Fuck once then you go blind.
Glad Eleanor's still finding work.
I hated TEW on release. I played it recently and began to appreciate it for the things it did right. I have nothing but high expectations for TEW2 but until we see more of it, I don't really know what else to say. Is there Gamescom footage?
Nothing concrete but people point to the SAG-AFTRA strike as the cause though it could've just as easily been scheduling conflicts/dev's changing their minds.
...
Is the best girl back tho?
Did you fucking play TEW 1? The game was mostly a corridor shooter. It was linear to a fault, especially when there wasn't even any progression since Seb would just teleport to a new area at the end of every chapter.
I understand that you want to get on a soapbox here but less linearity is objectively a good thing in the context of TEW.
I'm not a fan of Sebastian's new voice and the numale focus on muh daughteru and muh redemption.
I hope there is a section where we get to play as Kidman again.
Is the game again an introduction for the story DLC which was the actual good part?
>Jump scares are the lowest of the low when it comes to horror.
What's it like being such a pleb that you don't know the difference between horror and terror?
She is but her face and VA have changed. Additionally, her role in TEW 2 is different from the first game in that she will assist Seb via radio from outside the STEM.
What about Joseph?
I just want to know about Joseph, if he's not in the game, the devs can suck it. I would watch a LP's tho
Didn't she have a completely different agenda from Seb in the first game working with her secret agency or whatever? Why do they even need him?
He's probably going to be saved for DLC.
I have a ps4 copy pre ordered just in case but I really hope the PC port is fine.
Well, the core of the STEM right now is his daughter. Maybe they find him a valuable asset to get to her?
>literally looks exactly the same as the first game but with worse voice actors
great game, guys
>animeposting
>implying the first Evil Within was a bad game
leave this place, user
theres nothing wrong with jumpscares when theres perfect atmosphere and tension. its called setup and payoff. when theres no payoff, then whats the point? you walk around knowing that nothing scary will happen. face it you only hate jumpscares cause they actually scare you and youre a huge faggot beta bitch. sh1-3 did have jumpscares, paired with good atmosphere, thats why they were so good
okay
but what if I preordered both games.
animeposting cannot be forgiven, user
berserk doesn't count
No word on him though my theory is that after he is taken by Mobius at the end of the first game they make him one of their agents. In TEW 2 there are already Mobius agents inside of the STEM before Seb enters, Joseph will probably be one of them.
Kidman was originally tasked with infiltrating KCPD to keep tabs on any investigators that got suspicious about Mobius. Mobius then tasked her to retrieve Leslie Withers within the STEM to prevent Ruvik from escaping. In TEW 2, Mobius wants Seb to enter the STEM again because 1)He already survived being inside a STEM system before and 2) his daughter is the host of the new STEM which acts as a convenient motivator to get Seb to rescue her.
>my entry level pleb manga is the only thing that counts
Berserk fags are no better than Eva, Bebop or Jojo plebs. Go fucking read a real man's manga like HnK. inb4 hurr durr HnK is also a pleb manga, that's the point you retard
you got it, famalam
Eva, Bebop and JoJo aren't even bad, though.
Hating on them is just what's in style.
There's a reason they're renowned and respected; it's because they're good.
Not trying to start shit. Just sayin'. HnK is great, too.
