Because there's a ton of incredibly strong enemies in Opposing Force. The second half of the game is definitely much harder than Half-Life. I've beat OF on hard, and you simply have to learn which weapons work the best in certain areas/enemies.

Black Mesa already came into contact with Xen already, and Gordon didn't know about it. The chapters "Questionable Ethics" (discovery of alien testing) and "Lambda Core" (discovery of teleportation) show this off.

there were just way too many enemies in that one dark tunnel area, it was the only place i just ran through instead of killing everything

Opposing Force starts way too late in the video. Shephard's team flies in on day 1 and gets shot down and then he wakes up on day 2. The grunts in Blue Shift mention Shephard's team didn't make it, Blue Shift takes place on day 1.
