Are the books the Witcher games are based on any good, Sup Forums? I would ask /lit/ but they're extremely autistic and will just tell me to come here.
The Witcher
Yes they're good, but I've read them in German, so I don't know how they're gonna be in English.
yes they are good you idiot
The first two (short story collections) are really good. The rest of them are pretty hit and miss. Read if you enjoy the plot.
Why else would you fucking read genre fiction you fucking idiot
They're very mediocre pulp and some of the worst fantasy I have ever read, on par with GRRM drivel.
They're definitely not bad at all, easy comfy read
this
ciri is the ed of The Witcher series
I read the first set of short stories and found them to be pretty mediocre. Didn't follow up on them after that.
>They're extremely autistic
>So I came to Sup Forums instead
lel
>trusting Sup Forums to have taste in anything other than vidya
these are the same people who will tell you that Quentin Tarantino is the greatest director of all time, user.
It's below average, the narrative works better as a game.
>trusting Sup Forums to have taste in vidya
Sup Forums generally has great taste though. i'm sorry we don't like your cinematic adventure garbage.
If I summed up all of them at once then it's just okay.
Found the Ciri-only parts difficult to continue through.
Dandelion is much more enjoyable in text than in-game.
didn't mean to quote
>haven't even played Witcher
>immediately gets defensive and assumes I love it when I make a joke
Cool it.
Sup Forums at least has better taste than Reddit normies but their taste in any other category is borderline cringey
But pantyquest dating sims get a free pass here so you're not better than anybody
I'm still on the first one after starting not too long ago, but I'm enjoying it. It's an interesting world and the plot of the stories have been playing out in an interesting way.
Dunno man. Some people are weird like that. And I've seen enough people forcing themselves through the ciri-arcs because some fuckwit told them you absolutely need to read them all.
First two books >>Witcher 2>>Next Three Books>>Witcher>>Last Books>>>>>>>>Witcher 3
Don't read this plagiarized garbage, go straight to the superior Elric.
They're ok, but drop thr ball hard on later books.
The author opens up like a million plot points, which he then simply drops again because he doesn't give much shit about thr lore.
Also don't expect Geralt to be like in the games. Despite him being a Witcher he extrenely rarely uses potions, silver sword and signs.
Short stories are pretty good, though.
Why is it established that GRRM is bad fantasy? His plots are more engaging that the typical "clearly good vs clearly evil" fantasy around.
I've read the last wish and am currently on The second batch of short stories. I've only played the witcher 3 but I have to say the universe and stories in the book are really interesting, I like how their short stories too. I hear the novels are kinda shit so I may stop after I finish this one.
They were the Slav version of shitting on high fantasy tropes (Tolkien especially) before it became cool in the West.
t. oldfag Polak who had to suffer all his friends jerking off to them back when they were coming out
It's just parroted shit. The only thing GRRM fucks up is writing in Valve time.
Yeah, they're great.
The games are actually direct sequels to the novels.
>writing in Valve time
Holy fuck, why doesn't he just kill himself? At least it'll confirm to all the naysayers that the fat sellout isn't going to finish the novels before he carks it
>these are the same people who will tell you that Quentin Tarantino is the greatest director of all time, user
>implying they wouldn't be right if they said that
this
if you think
>clearly good vs clearly evil
is typical to fantasy, then you probably haven't read anything outside of R.A. Salvatore novels and your opinion about the value of fantasy authors isn't worth all that much
They are very good. The last Wish is the best one and tower of the swallow can be compared to a feast for crows for those who read asoiaf, it's boring as shit.
Agree on the first point, but GRRM is a few notches above this trash, even considering the last two books
Witcher books are much more interesting than most of the in game stories. I read them in Russian though, don't know about quality of English translation.
They are good in original language, like 6.5/10 but i suppose that after translation they can lose quiet a bit of charm and also if you are not from middle/east Europe where some myths and monsters from this book are relevant due to mythology
The books are good whenever Geralt is the center of the story
Whenever Ciri shows up it becomes less interesting
The last wish was really enjoyable and I've read it about 3 times
The weird if destiny twice
The rest of the books just once
