Anno designed the anime, or at least NGE, to be an attack on the industry and Otaku culture. At this point, Asuka and Rei symbolize the opposite, and it probably pains him.

I beat the first Nier too and played some Drakengard.

Drakengard 1 is kinda shitty and 3 was incredibly campy, but the Nier series is pretty good imo. That's not taking into account the OBJECTIVELY god-tier music.

Taro has too much actual talent to be a hack.

Suda's games are even less playable than Taro's, and with substantially weaker narrative as well. Killer7 is his best work and he probably will never top it.
