They're RPGs. The gameplay and graphics are very simple and get rehashed a lot between games, but the big attraction are the character interactions between the different consoles. Every country represents a company and all locations, items, attacks, modules, etc are references to either SEGA, PS, Xbox or Nintendo. Some characters also represent companies, such as Falcom. You get guest appearances too like Atari and the PC Engine/TG-16.

If you like video game culture, you will like Neptunia. The girls aren't even gay in-game, really.

Which is the best to play? Which has the most characters? Do I need to play them in order?

Decent RPGs, the last one being really good, with cute girls doing cute things, and the most lovable characters you'll ever see in any anime franchise. Despite popular belief, there is barely fanservice on the games at all.

The PS3 games would be the chronological starting place, but the remakes are 100% better. The original games were clunky and have less features than the remakes.

The remakes are all named Re;birth. Namely, Re;birth1/2/3. You play those, in order.

The first game is its own universe. 2 and 3 are related. The Re;births are on PSvita original but were all localized into PC. They run perfectly on my laptop with an i7 onboard graphics and no GPU.

Then you have Neptnunia VII which is the 4th game. It did not run on my shitty laptop, and it's on PS4 originally. The spin off games are all bad, you can skip them.

Vert would be the biggest shitposter in a /vg/ BL thread. She would have the tip-toppest niche BLs organized by fetish, call so many anons plebians and organize raids on the Katawata threads.

The 3 rebirths and VII are best played in order, and they are the main games. RB1 is the only game on it's own dimension.

The spin offs are pretty bad. Nep U and Blanc vs Zombies are Senran Kagura clones, and clones of a shitty game can only be as shitty. Hyperdevotion is a mediocre SRPG, and SeHa is a boring turn based RPG.

Cyberdimension is the last game, coming out next month. It's a spin off, but better than almost all, if not all, the main games.
