Have you ever refused to buy a game because your native language wasn't supported?

Yes, I'm not good at reading Japanese.
DON BE RAYCIS LIEK DUMP
How will drumpf supporters ever recover from this?
No, even if it's supported I always pick English.
This
I hate playing games in my native language.
Same. A lot of people in my country refuse to buy/play a game if it isn't translated to our language though.
Is that true, does everyone in Spain pirate?
The numbers may be exaggerated but I wouldn't be surprised if piracy actually is rampant in third world countries. But at the same time, if that turns out to be true then I'm legitimately surprised they managed to figure out how to
>Game is in my native language
if the game is in some language I don't understand, of course
else I always like to have the texts in my language I don't care for the audio
Of course I will switch if the translation is shit but that's a lot better than in the past
>he doesn't have native level English
Fucking subhumans
I usually like to play the game in it's native language with subtitles, especially if it's Slavic.
Why do you guys prefer english?
Because it's my native language.
Same. I don't know why. I guess mostly out of habit because games were always in english. Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that only "kids" games were translated here in the past. So it just still seems childish.
>if you don't make X in MY language you racist
OH COME ON people.
do you see games dubbed italian around?
all i remember is AAA games
and sometimes the dub is awful so i pick english, and if it's weebshit i go for jap
This. The only exception is when there's German audio available, since german voice actors are worlds better than the ~10 Ashley Burch variations every single americlap game has.
no. heck, i have games and book series that are in a mix of French and English just because thats what the store had at the time and fuck shopping
German translations/dubs are god-awful.
what about the subtitles ?
Not even my native, if they refuse to support japanese in a fucking japanese game, kanji included, im out
>Dutch
It makes my cringe everytime
I played Stalker in Russian and Witcher 3 in Polish
Most of the time the translations are poor at best. Then there's also the fact that I'm not used to playing games in my native language. Just like I'm not used to movies being dubbed in it either.
Only gor games like spy fox in english he sounds like a cunt
if i did that i would never have played any games
>be spanish
>don't have job or money
>pirate every game, movie and song from the internet
>"Why doesn't this fucking Trump fan translate the game to spanish"
original voices and english subs everyday.
If there's not kanji it's probably a game for kids.
You're playing a kids game.
spain isnt a third world country you illiterate fuck
>This is what Spaniards believe
1. english is just a better, more concise language
2. why the fuck would I play something other than the original version, as it was meant to be played?
3. translations are usually bad, sometimes they even translate names (spanish)
4. even if the translations are good, spain has like 4 video game voice actors, who all also voice TV or movie characters, and I'm sick of their fucking voices
5. it makes online talks and wiki browsing a pain in the ass, "santuario de enlace de fuego" is firelink shrine and that's not even the worst translations in DaS
6. it actually improves my english vocabulary and grammar, so it's a net positive
thry the french dub, it's absolute gold
you're confusing Mexicans with Spaniards
1. Lets me work my english
2. I actually work in adapting and translating so I know the shit conditions it's done in my country and I can "hear" when a translation is sucky, which gets me out of the game entirely.
3. I had to play sucky french translations for my entire youth, now that I have the choice I'm staying the fuck away from them.
woah... didn't know you guys had internet access in the middle of the savanna...
it actually is my friend
oh fuck you're right,the subtitles
I tought we were talking about dub,but yea,a lot of games have them, but games translate stuff in the wrong way, like "counter" gets translated as "contatore" instead of "contrattacco"
Dutch sounds horrible, its not a suprise when every dutch actor is a B movie actor
>american education
Same reason people are always pissed with English translations of Japanese games. Even good translations generally miss the mark sometimes and most aren't good.
This
Far Cry 4 is one of the only games I've ever seen (besides kids games) that had even subtitles for my native language, and it just feels fucking weird.
For europe it is, you guys are more afrika then EU
Same reason i prefer original Japanese audio, it sounds better because it's not native to me. Also games are fictional and listening to a foreign language is like listen to fantasy language set in that world.
No game has my native language supported, so no.
at least we have education LOL
Pretty much this.
you forgot greece
Localisation manager reporting in, this shit happens all the time, mostly because the translators just get dumped the text at short notice without context.
The worst one I've seen is someone translating a staff (the weapon) as staff (workplace employees).
>everything in a game is dubbed and translated to your native language
>it's fucking horrible
>can't change it at all
I had the game as a kid so im used to his dutch voice his voice was kinda silly but his english voice is way too serious
I cannot stand his english voice so i never played the versions without dutch voice
>"counter" gets translated as "contatore" instead of "contrattacco"
Holy shit, they did the same thing in the German translation of Grandia 1.
No I only play games in their intended language. Especially japanese games.
Nomina 300 giochi che fanno questo
> the translators just get dumped the text at short notice without context.
that still happens? thought that they would've learned over the years.
Translations are a big pile of fuck-ups really. The comedians providing the voices record them without context, the translators get a big fucking slab of text, nobody proofreads, nobody cares.
The worst I got was a translator translating "poleaxe" into fucking "polar axe".
Inconsistencies in translation are annoying as fuck. In 90% of times game is designed primarly for English, and that leads to plenty of oddities when translating into different languages.
Other reason is that most mods don't get translated into different languages, so after installing them you get mixed languages, which also bothers me.
No, I prefer English.
You know how Oblivion had like 5 voice actors total just doing slightly different voices? Imagine that but for every single game. No thanks.
I think the counter thing comes from Pokèmon
Merkel is fixing that.
Depends on the studio, a lot of them have got much better but localisation can always get fucked by being the last step in process. Especially when last-minute source text changes start happening.
I learned English playing Pokémon, so not really. The last game I played in Spanish was Zelda BoTW, wich had surprisingly good VA for Latin America.
yeah an education where you can even differentiate spain from mexico
really makes you think
Neverwinte Nights 2 was notorious for that shit.
they hate their country
cant*
>stalker in Russian
What the fuck?
How do you understand what they're saying then? There's no subtitles
unlike spain, mexico's a useful country
>Argue that we should respect anyone's desired names or pronouns
>'lol his name is Drumpf!' even though it was legally changed before he was even born and he's never gone by that name or had any say in it
I never understood this
>Playing old jrpg
>All the tramslstion fuck ups
And still happens from time to time.
I was born in a small village
I actually like when it doesn't have support for my language because
i) localization in my country is 99% of the time absolutely terrible
ii) dyglossia in my country makes it annoying to hear the weird accents they put on localizations and dubs, and
iii) it stops retards from enjoying the game.
Because I want to experience the game the way majority of the players will experience it.
Because English is the de-facto standard of the world and gaming (as well as reading books in English and speaking with people on the internet, also in English) helps me hone my language skills.
Now, there are several games I chose to not play in English (still used English subs, even if dub was my native lang), but those were the games where English spoken language basically ruined the experience - Metro is so much better with Russian dub/English sub, in Witcher Geralt sounds so much better in Polish, etc.
Because he is a hypocrite.
His great grandfather changed his name and immigrated to the US for a better life, and what does Trump do? He bans immigrants from entering the US.
Because somehow everything would just look/sound weird and cringey.
It was in response to Trump calling Jon Stewart by his original, Jewish last name.
Sly cooper had a very good dub.
>most people in country uses a mix of local and english or informal language
>most translation done by foreigners uses pure local or formal language that the majority does not even understand what the fuck they are talking about or need to really think hard to know what they are saying
Just glad that this country is not gaming-worthy enough but I'm sad for the few fucks trying to learn this language as what they mostly learn is useless in most settings. I have seen some games being translated to our language and it is so formal that I translation is unusable.
This.
Unless its made here i wont play it in german.
Every medium is best consumed in the language it was originaly created in.
If you can't understand something in its source language, you don't deserve to experience it.
That's why I learned English, and why I have been studying Russian for the past year to one day start reading Dostoyevsky.
Some dumbass translated chest ( the armor piece) as chest (the object where you put other objects inside) in Latin American WoW once
My native language is never supported.
his great grandad came legally and he bans illegal immigrants. i l l e g a l ones that came i l l e g a l l y
>mfw my country has god tier dubs and it's often better than the english version
Not all immigrants
>Diablo 3 for Latin America
Really, fuck blizzard LA man.
The way it was meant to be played™
Quite the opposite. I learned Japanese just to play games which aren't localized.
Pretty sure Blizzard games just use whatever language you set in Battle.net
This is your first English Sup Forums lesson.
What's the difference between legal and illegal?
Ok Japan.
...
FUCK DRUMPF
PICKLE RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK
For many years this wasn't the case. You were stuck with your phyisical region's location even though they advertised otherwise in the forums.
>Have you ever refused to buy a game because your native language wasn't supported?
I fucking stoped instaling games in my native language after i bought first Black Ops expecting half of the hollywood in the cast only to find out that it was region locked and voiced by the same 3,5 voice actors that voice litteraly every single game and movie in my country.
