Yup.
Ace attorney has cooler art direction to me and more logical puzzles, but dangan ronpa is actually fun to read for a VN.

No, and I say that from someone who has a husbando in DR. It's a bit different, if a little easy at times, and some of the minigames, especially in the second game, are really cumbersome.

AA is better, more coherent and better written, and that's mostly thanks to Shu Takumi's character writting, but DR is still enjoyable; if you like one, you're bound to like the other.

It's a dark comedy. Some argue that the second game is far too goofy in tone. The characters save the game, and the trials are pretty fun.

Why did Kyoko have an almost British accent?
Why did Celeste not have an accent?
I guess Byakuya having a snobby accent makes more sense but it just doesn't fit.
The only voice I ended up liking in the dub was Junko's because it took advantage of the idea of her character

I've always thought this series was a shitty version of Zero Escape. Characters are supposed to die, and yet they are kept around like a c-tier anime.

Alright I have a legitimate question.
Im a huge fan of 999 & VLR as well as the PW games. But never had the portable PlayStations so never tried Danganronpa. Yesterday I marathoned the Danganronpa anime and it was alright, does anyone know how faithful the anime is to the game? Can I still play it or will it just seems whatever since I've seen the anime already, also is the second game a completely different story? Maybe I can just play the second now, what do you veteran players think?

This chart always annoys me. It's decent overall, but Mikan, Chiaki, Mukuro and Tenko have nothing to do in S tier. Also, placing Toko and Miu anywhere above F- tier is just a pisstake.

I like AA better so far, but I'm only about halfway through the first DR right now.

DR1 animation is faithful to the game in the sense that it's basically a summarized version of DR1 that had to fit 28 hours of gameplay into 7 hours of anime. You could play it just to get more characterization but really it's safe to say you can go to 2 now

Second game is a new story. I didn't watch the anime so I don't know the differences.

oh and also just get it on PC/PS4 because DR2 is a little choppy on Vita and V3 is almost unplayable on Vita

whatever. It's trashier, but not without any merit. DR is wilder and zanier in every regard. That works for it in some ways, and hurts it in others. Danganronpa threads always boiling down to ranking waifus, crafting memes, and making fun of the stupider twists will tell you a lot. Danganronpa also suffers from having the setting founded on a premise they clearly never wanted to flesh out beyond what you see in the games, which leaves you with a half-fulfilled feeling when you finish the games, and a "fuck that was total fucking garbage holy shit" feeling when you watch the anime that was supposed to go into it more.

DR and Ace Attorney have different strong points though. Ace Attorney is obviously all about its strong storylines and character progression, whereas DR is much more about character relationships, their interactions with each other, and trying to make the player relate and bond with them.
If it weren't for the fact that they're both mystery games I wouldn't even bother comparing them.

They're different games AI does the mysteries and solving better but Dangan is better everywhere else.

The mysteries are amazingly predictable in DR, and you already know almost everything before going into the trial.
Not to mention the contradictions are piss-easy to find, and you only use evidence once per trial, which makes the entire game easier and easier as the trial goes on.

A good mystery is supported by its cast and writing. Danganronpa does usually have some pretty decent mysteries, but shit like "despair flu" is bad writing, and is the crux of that entire case in 2. Motives are a part of a good mystery as well, and "I dunno, despair or whatever" is a pretty shit motive. That is also a writing issue.

Makes much less sense in Japanese, where people do not know English, just imagine if 11037 was Katakana. Just a case of getting lost in translation.

Also the 1st case of DR1 is arguably the worst one and easiest one, either way.
