Why the hell is everyone so mean to Ryuji?

I just started Persona 5 (well, I'm on the third palace) and everyone is so mean to him

He seems nice to me. They all call him stupid too for no reason - he's come up with a lot of good ideas for the group already

he's blonde and japan is racist

He turn out to be the villain.

There has to be at least one dedicated comedy relief/idiot character to shit talk and dump exposition on.

It's the typical jrpg group dynamic, poke fun at the rude lewd boy and make him the butt of the jokes, etc. just like real friend groups, right guys

The group is at it's best with him, Ann and Yusuke. It really felt like they had to get creative to find shit out about their targets causing hijinks then Makoto "no fun allowed" Niijima joins stopping that then Futaba the walking plot device hacker joins.

same thing in P4 with naoto and in P3 with mitsuru
the first 5 thieves(mona,ryuji,ann,yusuke,joker) had a great group dynamics because they were basically all at the same "normal" level,before brains join

Man the Phantom Thieves were really lacking in brain power. If Makoto and Futaba hadn't joined they would've been completely screwed.

it would have been way more ballsy if the writers came with a way to have the characters actually get their shit togheter though pure will power and no "muh senpai that solves everything" bullshit
