Is there any advantage over DS hacking to 64?

More characters? DS emulation is more stable than N64 emulation?

I dunno, just guesses

I can already imagine Wario's fat ass trying to make the wall jumps required to beat the true final level already.

Star Road has aged like shit desu. It doesn't do anything original.

>Star World will, by far, be the largest and most complex ROM hack ever made.
That faggot holds himself is such a fucking high horse holy shit.

>anons post interesting mods/romhack etc
>its not even complete yet
EVERY TIME FUCK

Let's get dangerous.

90% of this hack is already released.

youtube.com/watch?v=vg2VcR5WIo8&t=

Mario 64 romhacking has been on a boom lately, and N64 emulation is much better than before.
Besides that, it has better controls.

I liked it. It's just more of the original game, which is nice if you don't want to be stuck replaying the original if you want it's brand of level design.
Even Doom modding has "Doom The Way Id Did".

That hack is really fun. It's one of the few N64 hacks that actually works on real hardware too.

Does it have the shitty ass DS controls? If so, fuck that shit.

could this be imported and played on a DS?

It's going to come with a tool for emulators that allow you to map the touchscreen movement system to an Analog stick.
He put out a test version of it, and it works just about flawlessly. You CAN use it with the original game, but he made changes to the physics that go against the original level design, but it should be fine for the full Rom Hack since the levels will be designed around it.

funfact: the poofy bottom of the tanooki suit for peach and rosalina is ACTUALLY the tanookis huge balls

and now you can't unsee it

You can, but you'll be missing out on the analog controls he has for emulators.

Sounds good to me, it looks good enough from the trailer. I'll check it out if it turns out he isn't bullshitting with the whole "most complicated romhack of all time" thing. Seems like his head is just up his own ass but we'll see.

holy fuck that looks amazing
reminds me of Another Super Mario 3D

Why is Loggo speaking to Banjo in the overworld?

His head is up his own ass.
With all the full engine conversions and other hacks that completely change games there's no way this is the biggest and most complex ROM hack ever made. As much as of a clusterfuck of ASM as it was Kaze's Last Impact alone is a more complex ROM hack.

If he's just talking about SM64DS hacking he's literally up against one other complete hack so saying it's that complex isn't impressive.

Don't hurt me user, you know it's cancelled.

N64 emulation is very hit or miss but Mario 64 is one of the better working games. It didn't really push the hardware or use any tricks and its one of the most popular games on the system so it's had a good amount of attention in terms of compatibility.

Loggo's the villain for no real reason besides the fact that the hacker calls himself loggo and the game is a dream.

N64 emulation is a total mess. N64 romhacks typically don't work on real hardware. Star Road aims to work on real NDS.

>N64 emulation is much better than before
People keep saying that but games I've wanted to play for years now still have graphical errors

>most complicated romhack of all time
Not even fucking close

So how long until the threads about the C&D start popping up?

3DS should have gotten more N64 remakes
The DS did no service to this game

It was worth pirating for the minigames

user, have you watched Pom Poko? The whole movie revolves around a tanuki community that's fighting off construction works from their land and they learn to use their nutsacks (in the English dub, "pouches") to transform into things. Actually very charming, not sure how famous of a Ghibli title it is. Just figured I'd share that since you already knew the bit about tanukis doing that

He's already fixed the bug that lets you fly around the world as the bee, sadly

>That image quality
oh my. I appreciate that they were able to make SM64 run on the DS, but that's awful to look at.

>tfw stay up all night gambling with that smug cunt luigi and playing that card magic guessing game bullshit
That was a good night

what?

The video. Literally everything in the video is shimmering jaggies.

No I mean
>I appreciate that they were able to make SM64 run on the DS
It's just a SM64 mod.

SM64 DS*

The video is using a filter.

>SM64 DS
I know. I'm just saying that it's amazing that they got Sm64 running on the DS, but the image quality hurts to look at.
Oh, so the vanilla game doesn't look like that? I've never played SM64 DS.

I like Star Road but it has a little too much jumping over bottomless pits for my liking

I've tried a handful of rom hacks for various games and they never feel right. Probably sound like I'm memeing but I'm not

>DS controls
No thanks.
inb4 just use X to magically change digital input.

>make a complete SM64 rom hack
>get blown the fuck out by Kaze and Last Impact
>make a multiplayer SM64 rom hack
>get blown the fuck out by Kaze and Super Mario 64 Online
Being Skelux is suffering

>I'm too retarded to use stylus controls
Then again, so where a lot of idiots.

See, here's the usual idiot who thinks the input changes.

most of skelux's things have shit level design outside the hubs

And here's the usual idiot who thinks a circle pad is a stylus

Man, this guy REALLY likes floating platforms with spring pads.

I like to hear what people have to say about level design. What's wrong with his?

>stylus controls
way to fall for ninty's placebo

And here's a video as well.

>heck
Don't be a pussy.

I hope by expanding purgatory he doesn't mean I have to walk longer just to select my file

Doesn't the mario 64 hacking crowd hate Last Impact because they can't speedrun it
Then again I never see them speedrunning Star Road either, it's always Kaizo hacks with the blandest of level designs.
My favorite Mario 64 hacks are probably 74 and 74 Extreme Edition, I read a post by the guy who made those on the Banjo-Kazooie hacking forum that he has some sort of terminal illness now, that's rough.

Way to be a stubborn baby who can't get accustomed to new things.

I kinda know what you mean. I feel too many of them require knowledge of glitches or speedrun tricks
You just gotta keep looking, good ones do exist

D-d....darn!

What are some good M64 hacks that are about equal to the original game in terms of difficulty?

excessive amount of awkwardly sloped platforms that end up fucking with the already wonky cameras

i also hate most of the music he uses

I can't help but feel that the update to Skelux's multiplayer was made as a direct response to Kaze when he said that his works with other romhacks as well

good ol' romhack drama

user this is a blue board

Well, yeah. Why do you think it's getting a remake? My biggest gripe with the original was that the level geometry and the game's sliding physics went horribly together. Mario would always trip and slip over the dumbest shit. I hope that's getting fixed.

Pretty sure the SM64 community hates it because it tries to do its own thing instead of being a SM64 sequel like Star Road
It's too complex so they don't like it because of that

When a game is never meant to be modified, the levels are usually optimized to suit the game's mechanics perfectly. The developers can change and modify the game, so everything in a good game will synergize perfectly.

When you make your own levels and deviate, that synergy tends to be lost, because you're doing things the game was never meant to do. This is why many mods for games tend to feel "off" or "unpolished". You can still make quality, fun content, but you can always tell what you're playing wasn't made by the original devs.

>that shit level design
>those edgy shitty enemy redesigns

The controls are being reworked for this hack. It doesn't handle like the original game

You might be giving the originals too much credit, at least in most cases. No game is perfectly crafted, though most are made far better than any fan would be capable of. The sheer advantage in numbers alone, multiple people working together to make something will likely lead to be better results than just the ideas of a single person

I think the only case I've been impressed by a fan project is AM2R. It really felt like it could have been a retail game, minus the unpolished ending portion

>got Sm64 running on the DS
No you moron they rebuilt SM64 from the ground up for the DS.

I never played the original so this could be fun.

I really don't like the DS versions controls or muddy grafix though.

The mario 64 DS version runs at 60fps

...

Oh user~
You're so unimpressed~

>lying on the internet

I really wanted to like SM64DS but having to hold a button to run and having to use a d-pad always put me off.

Nigga even UltraHLE could run Super Mario 64.

What do you guys think of star revnege 2: night of doom?

Is this only playable on a PC with a DS emulator? or can it be played on an actual DS/3DS?

I remember the creator saying it is, but you'll lose out on the Analog control hack he devised, which only works on a computer and can't make use of the 3DS circlepad.

The regular game works fine on a 3DS circlepad; not perfect but better than the D-Pad on DS.

It does, but the Analog control hack for PC has actual analog movement, so while it's playable, you'll still be missing out.

>cancelled Star Road 2 for a 3D Land hack
