Never played original. Is it fun?
Is anyone else hyped for this game

I never played it but no it was awful
It's unironically one of the best pokemon spinoffs. Would recommend.
The major issue I had with the Wii U was 30fps-locked local versus. Thankfully, this isn't an issue with the Switch version.
It's pretty fun, it's literally the "easy inputs" fighter Sup Forums claims they want. The same people who whine about doing a hadouken motion then drop it after they get bodied online, since it's a very neutral focused game that requires lots of match up knowledge.
If you have a friend who's decent at fighting games, you can get a good amount of enjoyment out of it.
Weavile a best 'mon.
It's fun if you want a competitive fighting game and are up for some experimental mechanics while still wanting a traditional fighter base with the main same gameplay systems (attack heights, multiple attack buttons, etc) to it (vs say smash which is completely different);
But unless you are gonna spend like hundreds of ours gitting gud at the MP or the novelty of real time pokemon is that high for you, then you won't get much out of it, as it has barely any single player content. So like most fighting games, you get out what you put in
Also, if anybody actually wants to get into the competitive community or wants to ask questions to them, then pretty much everybody uses discord.gg/pokken over fourms or anything similar, so that's where stuff happens.
PokkenArena.com exists and is used, but for storing guides on tech, resources like frame data and such, and more stuff to refer to; all the actual discussion happens on the discord
I never played it on Wii U, but I played the demo on Switch and yes, I am in fact hype for this game now.
Its only fun if you have people to play with/play online.
Single player is a mind numbing grind.
I played this on Wii U and it was garbage. Let this spin-off die.
Ok gonna pick it up
Can you unlock another support person? Default lady is boring and not that hot.
Not in the WiiU version, you can't.
On the switch you can? I spent hours trying to get rid of her
No idea. Its not out yet, so we'll find out when it is.
Nice opinion
Were you good at it?
Good enough to get through Story Mode.
Most of it anyway. Got too boring.
It's got depth, but no single player content and the controls feel incredibly clunky
It's pretty ok. A few of my friends picked it up at launch and promised to play it a lot, so I eventually bought it after trying it and thinking it was fun. In the end, I didn't even play my own copy for an hour. One of my bigger cases of buyer's remorse
Real fun with friends. Game is very well-balanced, probably due to having a smaller, concise roster. Despite being animals that don't talk, every character has a lot of personality in their animations.
My only real gripe is how "meh" single player mode feels. But honestly, it's still better than most 1v1 fighters offer nowadays.
The question I have:
Is this the type of fighting game where your 6 year old nephew can beat you by pushing buttons or is there skill beyond memorizing attacks for 100 hours in practice mode
If you're also just hitting buttons, probably. There is skill involved
The former
All inputs are just a direction plus a button, it's easy to start playing with intentionality once you figure out all of your main's moves. Button mashers can easily be dealt with by zoning or blocking, since almost all of the characters have some sort of ranged attack, and the block blocks everything but grabs.
>mfw seeing Empoleon's smug regal attitude in the demo
Alight fags who are you going to main? Are you going to stick with your old main or try one of the new characters?
Is there an established tier list from the updated arcade cabinets? I've only played this game on friends' consoles and I just want to steamroll bitches with a top tier
Mained Gardevoir in Vanilla Pokken, but I'm gonna give the new guys a shot just to see if they can sway me.
Yes, try it OP.
Garden main for life, I'll also stick to sub braxien and pocket scizor.
Pretty sure most of the characters are considered A-Tier by the community. And out of all of them I think Croakgunk is the only one considered to be not competitively viable.
Found it.
I like Kickin' Chicken but the Demo has me interested in Empoleon and I might try out Croagunk.
60FPS dual screen confirmed
Oh shit. Is /vp/ mad that the bird made it in instead of the bara tiger?
All arcade players pretty much agree the game is very-well balanced, and that every character is viable with Crogunk being the worst, but still very usable.
BURRETO PAUNCHU
there are no legitimate opinions about the gen 7 starters on /vp/, just endless false flagging
Yes, it was the first fighting game i took time to git gud at and it was a lot of fun
I hear Empoleon has some slip'n'slide ice floor gimmick, and I've been interested in slippery movement in action games lately, so I'll definitely give them a swing first if I pick up DX.
nah. I prefer the naruto ultimate ninja storm games frankly. It's okay but there's a clear balancing issue with pokken, and the incredibly miniscule roster makes it that much more apparent when tournaments end up being fucking mirror matches for the top 8 all the way through
I used to play the Wii u version but I think I'll be more invested in the switch version. I was hoping for Hawlucha, Scrafty or Heracross to get in the roster, but I'll just have to make due with Lucha Pika. I've thinking of picking up Empoleon and Croagunk
I feel like everytime someone says naruto ultimate ninja stormit makes their post seen sarcastic. BabyDick type shit for sure considering the only thing that really changes between characters in that game is tilt's and Jutsu. Combo's seem to fill the same purpose for every character, regardless of looks.
That's not the case at all. There's just as much variety, if not more, than pokken. Fuck, there's not even tilts in pokken, that's some really casual shit right there.
Will main scizor and keep sceptile, will try decidueye
It's got competitive depth.
Not unless he's also shit himself.
Oh, I didn't even know you could do splitscreen in this version.
Neat.
>Chandelure is B tier
Did it get nerfed or were all the people I heard bitching about it just scrubs? I was never too invested in Pokken, but I kept hearing Chandelure is really fucking good at zoning
...
Really looking forward to this, loved the wiiu version. even with its faults, Garchomp best mon
Mained vanilla Pikachu, will try Croagunk or Darkrai.
I wish I had a Switch for this. Definitely buying it when I finally get one.
She is really good at zoning, but at higher level play that's less of a problem, and you also aren't dealing with the lag at tournaments, which makes getting past the zoning not as much of an issue.
Also, Chandelure has won a ton of majors, despite that. bottom line is, the game is very balanced
She's excellent at zoning, but the game is very balanced. Her combo potential is lacking and she isn't too great up close if you know the game. She's more a scrub stomper than anything.
Mained Gengar because SHE is cute as fuck but I might go with Scizor or Croagunk because I like their aesthetics.
Some high level gameplay, if anyone is interested.

Chandelure was fun as fuck in the original version. Probably going to main either it or Scizor.
competitive player here
>AMA (^:
Why is weavile so rare in majors and regionals despite people saying he's top 3
I'd just say low/weak representation from high level players. EveryDamnDay just got 4th with Weavile today at Hidden Boss X, Coach Steve got 3rd at DreamHack Austin 2017 with Weavile in top 8. Weavile is a solid character but not top 3 imo
Trash game with a trash roster. It tries real hard to be Tekken crossed with the Naruto fighting games but isn't particularly memorable. And a lot of the roster feels safe, they could have been way more creative with their choices. Suicune being the only quadruped is a shame. Chandelure is great though and almost redeems a boring roster. Shitters like Croagunk and Braixen are just insulting, and lucha pikachu instantly invalidates anything good about the game.
>It tries real hard to be Tekken crossed with the Naruto fighting games
Except neither of pokken's 2d phases play anything like either of those.
Tell me the secret to winning all my matches.
Which outfit is the best outfit for the announcer.
>Tekken crossed with the Naruto fighting games
gives it up too easy
Spoken like someone who never actually touched the game.
Sports Nia. I've got a thing for ponytails and glasses.
Boy avatar or girl avatar?
How well has gardevoir done at majors? I can never catch a major so I have no idea what her placings are
Japan has a really good Gardevoir named Itou, NA has Ouroboro and Rasenryu. Both Itou and Rasenryu qualified for the World Championships 2017 but both went 0-2 sadly. Garde is definitely a viable character though.
Boy avatar, please don't be the faggot who picks the opposite gender for whatever reason.
I'm aware coach steve gets success and you occasionally see EDD and one or two other people like gibus make top 8, but there still feels like there's a disproportionate lack of representation/results given how good people say the character is, which is what i'm asking about.
>and lucha pikachu instantly invalidates anything good about the game.
What did you say about her?!
But girl avatars tend to have better clothing options in Jap games.
Tell me about Croagunk is he really as bad as the tier list suggests?
yeah imo I think it's just because of overhyping. If I'm gonna be honest I think gibus just got lucky, I don't think he's that great. EDD is also lower end, Coach Steve is the only real high level Weavile and he's focusing on other games right now.
Libre is the hypest character to watch fight, honestly.
Nah, every character is 100% viable. Croagunk has some RNG elements but I think he'll be totally fine as a character. Pokken's pretty well balanced, play who you want; as long as you're dedicated and improve you can win majors.
gonna keep playing Braixen, but also going to pick up Darkrai cause he looks like the typical arcsys "robot loli that summons swords" keepaway fag that I always want to be good with
So you think it's a matter of lack of good enough players exploring his options?
Pretty much. My region is known for having a ton of Weaviles but only Gibus somewhat broke through and like I said I think that was just a fluke.
Really kinda want to pick up Scizor. He looks fun as fuck.
Do you think there will still be a tournament scene in a year or two? I'm a poorfag and probably won't pick up the Switch until at least next year.
Considering that we've thrived on Wii U during the dark ages (late 2016) I can almost guarantee you that we'll be sticking around for as long as we can. We're a dedicated group, and we'd love to have you when you can make it. I'm confident we'll be around then.
That really depends on how willing TPCi is to push the game, really. The community itself is very much alive, even if I haven't checked it out in a long while.
>Sannom
who are you
where did you get this
Will anybody ever dethrone mitchel at making dank pokken shitposts?
Just your friendly neighbour who happened to really like Libre.
Why the fuck is single-player mode so mind nubbingly boring?
What are your views of the 3v3 elimination mode?
You can dress her up if that matters.
>S tier are just the projectile spammers
absolutely fucking not
i fucking love mitchel, his youtube channel is super helpful for beginners and he funded 2 pokken players' switches
The only character in S tier there that's a zoner is braixen though
Main Croagunk since he is my favorite Pokémon next to slowbro
>no primeape of hitmonlee
How did they fuck that up?
The hitmons would be shit, they have almost nothing to them other then just punches and kicks which every character already does.
I think they said they didn't want to have too many fighting types. There's already Machamp, Blaziken, and Pika Libre.
Libre ain't a fighting type, mate.
> go on /vp/ they all trash the game and say its gonna flop/its shit
> go on Sup Forums actual good discussion about the game by people who actually played it
wow its like two different worlds
>Expecting boards to properly talk about their main topic
The /vp/ threads are made daily by the same guy. Always with Pokkén box art, talking about no "hype" and whatnot.
Not sure what his obsession with Pokkén DX selling poorly is.
Fuck me I thought it gains fighting as a secondary type when it's in that costume. It only gains a fighting move. My mistake, but it's pretty much a honorary fighting type.
It's just one shitposter mostly. Plus /vp/ really isn't into fighting games, and a lot slower than Sup Forums.
please do not purchase this game if you have any plans to play braixen. braixen players are unpleasant and probably are smelly smash fans.
mained machamp and loved him, but scizor is my absolute favorite pokemon so im switching to him
