I'll give you Miyamoto because his importance can't be understated, but both of those men have actually been director on less games than you think.

I mean memes aside this has some of the greatest RPGs of all time on it.

Deadly Premonition does a great job of creating a town that feels alive, and even if a lot of the characters are obviously rooted in Twin Peaks, they're still charming and I think that they typically do enough to separate themselves from their counterpart in TP, though they're often not as good as their counterpart in TP either. The only things about it that are really bad is that it's shit on a technical level and every combat section is a pain to go through. It's a good game just for everything you get outside of the combat though.

Dark Souls is the only game in his career that mattered.

The core mechanics were really clever. It basically took the drawing mechanic of Okami and applied it to DMC. So many great ideas and moments came out of it. I would call it the most "Kamiya" Kamiya game, it has everything and the kitchen sink and is full of personality. Also use the right analog stick you consolation prize shitter.

Why does Kamiya stuff tons of cutscenes and story into games like Bayonetta, Viewtiful Joe and Wonderful 101 when they're always garbage is a better question.

Bayonetta has two and a half hours of cutscenes whereas God Hand has forty five minutes of cutscenes and is a longer game than Bayonetta, so obviously he does. Thankfully they're skippable but they shouldn't exist in these types of games at all to the extent that Kamiya insists on them.
