WRPGs by far
Deeper combat mechanics
More roleplaying mechanics
Better dungeons layouts
Better dialogue
ww
Which ever one you grew up with. I personally like WRPG's more though. I just enjoy being immersed. Fallout 1/ Planescape are god tier.
Western style games made by Japanese. Best of both worlds.
literally all my favorite games are made like this
For me it's WRPGs. I like JRPGs, but nothing has come close to Morrowind in setting, Planescape Torment in writing and dialogues, to Baldur's Gate in roleplaying, Deus Ex in story and themes. In terms of gameplay I guess they're equal. Most of WRPGs and JRPGs suck in that regard.
This
I like JRPGs for the adventures and music.
Everything else WRPGs do better
JRPG
...
Well?
What's an example of an eastern style game by a western company?
They're the same shit, its just the west copies the best aspects of JRPGs and dumbs them down for the common denominator
Shadow Warrior
...
>its just the west copies the best aspects of JRPGs and dumbs them down for the common denominator
This is literally the opposite though. Almost all JRPG's are based off of Ultima and Wizardry.
...
It's still very much a western game, just set in Japan. The art style is totally wrong for one thing, it still uses regular Western FPS mechanics.
Autists take mythological beast names too fucking seriously. They're not real animals and the historical definitions of the various names are inconsistent between various writings anyway. Writers should just design a cool creature and then use whatever cool name fits it best.
>its just the west copies the best aspects of JRPGs and dumbs them down for the common denominator
*blocks your path*
What the fuck does that have to do with the image you autist?
>Sup Forums doesn't know about video games
You're out of your element. JRPGs have copied WRPGs for decades.
this if i remember correctly? haven't played it in over 10 years
You don't understand. The king autist wrote the definitions of dragons in stone decades ago now you must obey his decree or suffer the wrath of his spectrum minions.
subs fucking never
Jade empire although that's based off of how far you stretch the definition "Eastern"
If by this you mean the souls series and Dragon's Dogma I agree.
I would just say they are ARPG's though, unless you would say KH2 is a western style Japanese RPG.
Kingdom Hearts adds real time and is very Japanese. "real time action rpgs" go back all the way to the Famicom and probably earlier. So Japanese ARPGs are not new.
>And here we have one of my game world's most interesting of fantasy creatures, the majestic Hobgoblin
>What are you looking at me like that for?
>Ugh... I swear you take things way too seriously
JRPG, obviously
Fair enough I was all thinking of some famicon games but figured I'd post KH2 instead because I can't really see what would make DD western inspired if KH2 is not.
Unless it's the more open-world and side quest approach or the setting.
Gears of War is great, I don't give a shit what Sup Forums says.
>THEY'RE SINKING CITIES WITH A GIANT WORM
In monster hunter this would be a dragon
historically wRPGs, but currently jRPGs
this
Yeah I'm certain Tales of Berseria takes heavily off of Ultima and Wizardry.
So does Persona 5 and Nier: Automata.
Fucking retard.
ToB is just Ultima but put through a Fisher-Price filter for babies, and Nier: Automata isn't a JRPG.
>Deeper combat mechanics
you are probably one of those ADHD people that doesnt even have the attention span for a turn based game
or, you have no idea what revenge values, stagger rates, attack weight, etc is
>Nier A
>JRPG
?
And yes SMT/Persona are heavily based off old school turn based WRPG's like Ultima
Persona's babified mainline SMT
SMT is Wizardry with the ability to recruit your enemies
It's a JRPG.
It's a sequel to Nier Gestalt and Replicant which are also JRPGs.
They are action games with a emphasis on story. How the fuck are they RPG's? There's no stat management.
just watched this whole show up to the current episode, im loving it. also, the game dev he likes named "Nobe" HAS to be a reference to Yoko Taro right? When they were talking about the game thats seeming like a horror game but turns into a fishing one halfway through and all that other stuff he said
It's an RPG made in japan. It's a JRPG. A japanese role playing game.
>no lambent worm in Gears 3
What did they mean by this? Also I think Gears 2 was best gears.
What even defines a RPG at this point. The western definition would be a game with the ability to manage and alter your characters/parties stats. Additionally the game has an emphasis on making choices. I have no idea how to define JRPG though.
This scene gets memed to hell and back all the time, but the giant worm really was a pretty sweet "oh fuck" moment.
And yeah, Gears is fucking great. Not a fan of the random unlocks for multi but at least it's just cosmetic shit for arena stuff. I'm less pleased with Horde mode this time around.
WRPG
Western JRPG
JRPG
JRPGs have gone full autismo recently. God hates us.
> how to define JRPG though.
Repetitive Grindfest.
There's still SMT but I heard Apocalypse wasn't the absolute best
>There aren't turnbased WRPGs
Are you retarded?
JRPGs. WRPGs bore me to tears.
pretty much this
if you could get a japanese studio to do music and character design (with westerners overseeing to keeping their autism in check) and a western studio to do everything else, I think you'd have a hell of a game
He probably is. WRPG's literally invented turn based combat. There's a reason out of all western games wizardry is still the most popular in japan. Even outselling some of the biggest jap titles.
>if you could get a japanese studio to do music and character design
Music is fine in WRPG's. I'd say Japs do the combat music and westerners do the ambient music.
Do you like pretty boys with soft eyes and women in a universe where everyone is decently good looking (JRPG)
Or do you like a universe where all men are gruffy 30 year-ish old bald white men that might sport a crew cut every now and then? All females are remodded men scaled down to look like men, but keep their manjaws and faces intact for tradition.
>music
You don't even need nips for music. Just hire Mark Morgan or Jeremy Soule.
IV:A has the best gameplay in the series. OST are also pretty good
Everything else was shit though
I prefer good gameplay with presentable visuals
Action RPGs of either kind are best, then SRPGs, traditional JRPG like Final Fantasy and traditional WRPG like Baldurs Gate are both garbage.
Clearly you know very little about western RPGs if you are under the impression that the majority of them aren't turn-based.
I guess nips can't really beat the west at anything
I just wish there was more collaboration, Japanese games are usually very interesting-looking and sounding, but they always just fall short of Western games quality imo
I wanna throatfuck that mouth desu.
In terms of gameplay, WRPGs are way superior. I do like Japanese art though. A shame they couldn't get their gameplay straight yet.
>I prefer good gameplay with presentable visuals
Then don't play RPG's.
where's the gameplay
No
Keep it in your pants, boy. There's a line so get your ass to the back of it.
The whole Elder Dragon class is just shit that can't fit in any other category and/or can cause significant environmental and habitat destruction
日本語でレスしろって誰が頼んだんだよ

hello my name is acute, you must be obtuse yes?
>mfw Asahi dies
Absolutely awful. She dies completely off screen and Shesha makes a few stupid puns while everybody is going "Asahiii ;_;". I can't believe I was excited to see how this would happen.
...
Fuck off.
Anachronox and Septerra Core.

Wrong buddy, The "Golden Age of RPG's" was SNES days and PS1 days, and were literally 90% from Japan.
most of those games weren't very good
you're right that Square was a lot better then but it's like the capcom syndrome, people thinking fighting games are dead because capcom shit sucks (SFV) when in reality games like Guilty Gears rev 2 and tekken 7 are great
The only way to like Japanese art style it's to have been brainwashed by anime.
Otherwise it's too fucking stupid.
>The "Golden Age of RPG's" was SNES days and PS1 days
Do people really believe this? RPGs were rarely good on console, this is a joke.
Except the stories in wrpg's are all bland and stale bullshit that makes you fall asleep. Oh yea, and literally everything is ugly, like westerners are, so at least thats accurate.
News Flash: Barely anyone plays or likes your bullshot "multiple choice" RPG's with a horrible bland and stale story. (No matter which path you take)
>Guilty Gears rev 2 and tekken 7 are great
Tekken has large load times, 8 frames of lag, and suffers from basic Tekken things like requiring a advanced tech that originally was a glitch to circumvent slow movement and homogeneity
GG is constantly overcharging for updates, is setplay heavy, has bad delay based netcode, and a community that can't even tie their own shoes
ではまだレスしてるってなんでウィーブくん
Show me the WRPG you played
Westerners just love Ugly things, user. It's ok to be ugly, but just face the facts of what it truly is to be repulsive. You hang out on Sup Forums afterall.
>GG
>bad delay based netcode
t. I didn't play relevator/relevator 2. I agree with overcharged shit but rev 2 was a step in the right direction. Other than that the only shitty thing is T7's loading. It's less than 8 frames lag btw. Wait what were we talking about? oh yeah jRPGs
> It's less than 8 frames lag btw.
It just reduced lag for some pads. It's still between 7-8 frames of lag on console
This is some brony level delusion
WRPG
+good world building
+lots of dialogue choices
+create your own character
-/+landscapes and background tries to be "realistic" all the time
-dialogue choices don't actually matter most of the time
-combat is not very fun
-characters must be as unattractive as possible
JRPG
+flashier combat
+more fantastic environments
+characters do not hurt your eyes to look at
-/+ tendency to mostly character driven
-usually linear
-characters have limited dialog choices if any
