BoTW is fucking great though, released this year and easily beats out older shit. Sonic Mania is easily better than any of the Classic Sonic games, Mario Oddysey is looking to be amazing, Kirby has continuously been going strong since the old days and that's just Nintendo alone. There's a ton of good shit on other platforms.

There's no better time than now to play some old/overlooked/classic GC/PS2/Xbox titles for practically free. You can even emulate the former 2 and play essentially "enhanced" versions at high resolutions if you so choose.

I'm not defending western games. Western games died in 2006 with advent of call of duty. Japanese games died when mobile gaming took off and the Japanese decided thats where the money is.

I still have my go to devs who are consistent with their products, and I'm always finding games I like, but the reality is that the landscape has changed significantly. The best part of this gen is that the accessibility and overall polish compared to games of yesteryear are the best they've ever been, but creativity overall has diminished.
