Sup Forums says it's shit

>Sup Forums says it's shit
>it's actually awesome
Why do you guys lie to me?

>it's actually awesome
(You)

how does a complete fucking froob start playing RTS like these? what civ would be a good start?

dumb frog poster

Why do you shill

Civ VI was fine but this is still retarded

It's not RTS. It's turn-based. Essentially an electronic board game with lots of depth.

Civ VI is lame as fuck because the AI is so unbelievably retarded and everyone ends up hating you for reasons you only have the illusion of controlling

>everyone ends up hating you for reasons you only have the illusion of controlling
Just like real life, huh?

>great art style
>great music
>great mechanics
>the AI and thus the core fucking gameplay is absolute dogshit

it hurts

The AI was recently overhauled. They're still unpredictable and they still play to win and will ruse the hell out of you but at least they're not insane any more.

Also there's a bunch of new annoying bugs in the game right now that are related to the new AI that need to be patched out.

Oh yeah? It's nice to hear it's gotten some development then. I pirated to consider picking it up and found the AI to be atrocious, but if it does get some development put into it then it's definitely a reason to pick it up sometime in the future.

Anywhere I can check out further development?

>it's actually awesome
It's not. It's probably even worse than the original Civ V. I'm sure it'll become playable and maybe even good in a couple of years, but now it's trash.

>It's probably even worse than the original Civ V
no not even close

Got a source on this?

>RTS

Doesn't take a genius to know this is your first Civ game and thus you have no idea how bad it is compared to earlier ones.

To be fair, the same can be said for Civ V and most of its players.

Even with two expansions, V is still far worse than both III and IV. At least VI has potential to be saved by expansions still.

Civ4:BTS was the last civ.

Which game should a newcomer to the series start with?

6. It's the newest, will be the best after DLC and has the best performance. Music is great too.

Either IV: Beyond the Sword, or V: Brave New World. Both are good.

IV or Alpha Centauri
>will be the best after DLC
wishful thinking

I have never played any of the Civ games.
Which one has most content and is most challenging?

The workshop mods are absolutely shit in comparison to Civ 5's

We just assumed you didn't have shit taste.

>that user interface
fuck no

What about it?

The biggest issue I had was the AI ALWAYS did a surprise war after each and every time they ask to pass through my territory. Did they fix that shit yet?

It's shit. I can't believe I was able to use it when I was 8.

most of the changes from V+addons seemed great beforehand, and I can't put the finger on anything that doesn't work, but the game isn't very fun for some reason.

It's fun to play on the quickest setting for somewhere between 50-150 turns, but after you got a religion and your core empire set up the joy disappears

When has Civ ever had non retarded AI?

Hope they fired whoever was in charge of the UI, having to press 3 buttons for things I could do with 1 in CivV is just fucking stupid.

Worked fine for me? What do you mean exactly?

The AI in these games will never be good and the more complexity they add the more obvious it will be how bad it is. The AI in V couldn't do 1UPT or decent city placement. They still can't, and on top of poor city placement their district placement sucks. Adding agendas only serves to make their diplomatic AI worse, which they should've noticed early in development but I guess they were too set on having it as a gimmick.

How much of a clusterfuck it is. Civ 5 had an easier to navigate layout.

Has Sup Forums EVER been right?

The soundtrack in this game actually kind of sucks due to lack of variation. Sure the Civilization themes are nice but that's pretty much all that plays and it gets jarring.

The issue is that for most games the results are already set some 200 turns in.

Is the AI still absolutely fucking retarded and has to cheat in order to get by?

End game is a pretty big slog. The AI turn times are still way of whack and trade routes/spies aren't automated. The AI has a bad habit of only keeping around classical-medieval units so rolling over them is trivial but doing it the fun way (i.e. getting nukes) is too much effort.

HAHAHAHAHA get out

>start the game
>place you city somewhere
>never take a single decision in the rest of the game unless you want instant pain and boredom

Agreed. Early game is exciting and moves quickly because you have few units and you're constantly exploring new land. Little by little, though, it starts to get slower and slower.

>great art style

It looks like fucking Clash of Clans. What the fuck are you talking about?

I can't wait for the expansion pack so I can pay £40 to have the game be the way it should have been on release

Feels like you're describing multiple 4x games.

nah

Firaxis always does this. Enemy Unknown, CIV 5, Xcom 2 and now CIV VI.

Ah huh.

Don't get 6 now. It's currently broken and they haven't said when/if they'll fix it.

played one game on normal length but it felt like it lasted an eternity. so fucking slow. the politics and religious systems are very shit in this game. they made a big deal of 'putting in all the systems' into the game but none of them feel fleshed out.

the ui is a mess. the district adjacency bonuses are really poorly explained. you cannot easily access the information that you want.

play endless space 2 instead. it's a joy compared to how bogged down civ 5 is in fluff.

gotta wait untl the next DLC goy

Civ VI is the most complete vanilla game it's ever been.

>they're becoming like Paradox the same way Creative Assembly did
Like pottery.

It is the worst game in the series and it doesn't deserve to have the name it does.
Cancerous piece of shit.
sage

>worst game in the series
Beyond Earth exists user, no matter how much people deny it.

>announcing your sage

>he doesn't announce his sage

I'm sageing your post because of that.

It'll age better than V, which was bland when it came out and already looks like garbage. The leaders actually have some personality now.

>implying rl doesn't suck

How come CIv VI still doesn't have any expansion packs?

Because Xcum2 was first, CIV is next.

because DLC shekeling period
it took nearly 2 years for V to get an expansion

Is there a compelling reason to play it over modded Civ 5 yet?

Too busy selling overpriced country packs. It'll cost me 6 didgeridollars just to play as my own country. Fuck that noise.

The issue is that Firaxis makes extremely simple and far reaching errors with their AI that absolutely cripples them. Like ranged units in 5 being unable to move and attack in one turn, completely crippling them at naval combat. Or not being able to stack or cross civilian units, causing roadblocks. Modders fixed it. Better city placement AI should be trivial.

Did they fix the retarded balance between hammers and beakers/culture?
I played at release, and it took like 50 turns to build anything, while research took like 5 turns max

Hasn't that basically been in the game since day one? I remember people abusing the ai with shit like that.

>they still play to win
>they left in the root of the problem, but it's better than ever!!!

>and already looks like garbage

V still looks great, what are you smoking?

What are you smoking?

why do these companies that used to make great games start making them worse and worse WITHOUT being bought by EA/Activision etc?
why are xcom2, beyond earth, civ6 such garbage compared to their predecessors?

That cartoony art style was a horrible decision though. Civ 5 was cartoony already, but this is just over the top.

Because pic related. I get the feeling that Firaxis would like to try something else for a change other than endless CIV/XCOM sequels

>Searches for Civ V low settings

Retard.

Reviving XCOM was them trying something else.

The worst part about the style is that it's pretty uninspired and inconsistent. Some leaders look human, some look like monsters and there doesn't seem to be much reason to it.

Nothing wrong with over the top. Civ was never about subtlety or nuance.

I hope you like all Civilizations immediately hating you.

Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrring
No it doesn't play the same theme unless you're like playing on an island all by yourself.

Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrring

>No it doesn't play the same theme unless you're like playing on an island all by yourself.
It plays through the themes of the civs you've met, and they are all the same themes rehashed through the game. It sucks.

Met the Russians. The Peddlers starts playing. Keeps playing randomly. I mean I like Tetris and all, but goddamn play something else.

What are some reasons for me to uninstall Civ 6 and install 5 instead? Asking as a mostly newfag to the series.

Mostly that Civ 5 has a fuckton of content - Civ games get better the more expansions and civs they have, and Civ 5 had like 50 civs near the end a lot of fun gameplay options.
