Linear, one might argue that the levels are open but I think those could be called linear as well even if accounting for scout-objective meta, since the game expects you to do it a certain way despite being able to pick your own troops.

The game progresses through a newspaper, the missions are the articles within it.

There is also a home base of sorts where you recruit, train, and upgrade equipment. You can go back and do any mission (to grind/go for better ranking) whenever you want. Some are fun to spam, some are cancerous magic-lance bullshit that you will never play through a second time.

How is it shit? Because the only thing that ruined it for me was my brother in my fucking ear telling exactly how I should play the game and why I should almost always bring scouts to every mission and rush the objective to get through the game as quick as possible.

Turn based Warfare is a shit concept.
I sit there and watch my soldiers and shocktroopers dying every turn and nothing I can do about it.
It's awful.

I recently completed it, the game is great

I wanted to like it, but as soon as the super soldiers show up, it turns to shit. Ultimate sniper accuracy who can instant kill a unit every turn from anywhere in the map? Fuck you. And the mission is basically unbeatable unless you built flamethrowers and smoke bombs before the mission and had them equipped, even though they were trash on every enemy in the game so far.

You've clearly never learned that scouts are OP like said.

Seriously, you can solo most of the game with Alicia with the right orders.

nothing about this game is open world. There's a hub menu you sit in, and then you go do scripted missions
